It is 2018 and India is still working hard on its dream to become a superpower. Strong cases of development, innovation and progress make us swell with pride, assuring us that we are on the right track. But when you slightly widen your eyes and see that the country is still divided on the lines of caste and religion, it makes you wonder if we are ever going to evolve. Recently, a video of a Sikh cop single-handedly saving a Muslim man from a lynch mob in Girija village of Uttarakhand has gone viral. Apparently, the man was found with a Hindu girl in a temple and the livid people of the village immediately began baying for his blood.

The cop, who was identified as Gagandeep Singh, is internet's new hero for his brave and selfless act. The violent mob was relentless in its demand to hand over the man to them, but the cops on the spot did not back down from protecting him. In the video, you can see the terrified man clinging on to the cop and Singh, did not let him go, despite the growing mob.

People are scrutinising the religious divide of the mob but saluting the spirit of the officer who was performing his duty.

Is this the direction of our future? Fanatical groups fighting over petty issues and killing in the name of religion?  It seems like nothing is sacred anymore because religion itself seems to have zero value in this country.
