85-Year-Old Man Attempts To Break A World Record Of Climbing Everest While Were Here Wasting Away

Whenever you feel like you can’t do something, just look up to Min Bahadur Sherchan for inspiration, and trust me you will actually be really motivated.

The Nepali man became the oldest person to climb the Mount Everest back in 2008, at the age of 76. But then five years after that, his record was broken by a then-80-year-old Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura in 2013. Since then, Sherchan has been trying to regain his title by scaling the 29,035-foot Himalayan peak, the world's tallest mountain.

"I want to be the oldest person to scale Everest again to be an inspiration for humankind, a boost for the elderly people and an encouragement for youths," Sherchan told The Associated Press on Wednesday in his home in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu. "It will be a message for everyone that age is no obstacle to achieving their dreams."

When he tried to achieve this incredible feat in 2013, he faced financial problems and delays getting a climbing permit and when he tried again in 2015, an earthquake-triggered an avalanche that killed 19 people at Base Camp a day before he reached the site.

"I am confident that I will succeed this time," he told the news agency. "I have no problems that could stop me from climbing Everest and the only problem could be weather."

According to him, the only fear he has is the "very dangerous" section between Base Camp and Camp 1, which includes the dreaded Khumbu Icefall, where climbers have to use aluminium ladders and ropes to navigate through deep crevasses amid tall ice blocks.

An avid advocate of peace, he wants to campaign for world peace and spread his message by travelling to conflict areas like Syria, if he regains his record.

"After I become the oldest Everest climber, people will listen to my campaign for world peace," he said.

What an inspiration!
