Cricket Fans Erupt In Joy As BCCI Confirms IPL 2019 To Be Held In India

After a seemingly never-ending research of countries that could possibly host the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League, the conundrum has finally come to an end, with India set to play hosts again.

The buzz around this year's edition was regarding the General Elections, due to which many thought that the BCCI would opt for Dubai or South Africa as the venue.

But on Tuesday, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administration (CoA) confirmed that the IPL 2019 will be played in India itself.

“Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that IPL 2019 will be scheduled to be played in India. It is also proposed that the tournament will commence on March 23, 2019. The COA will have detailed discussion with all the stakeholders before releasing the full schedule of the tournament,” read a statement from the BCCI.

Before this, the IPL was held twice outside India during the previous two General Elections, owing to the security concerns as the governments then, refused to provide security cover for matches across different cities.

In 2009, the entire tournament was held in South Africa while in 2014, the first 20 matches were played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at three different stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, where the remaining matches were held in India from 2nd May post the elections.
