Since its inception in the year 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become one of the most-watched sporting events in the world.
Famous for its glamorous yet hugely entertaining nature, IPL has come a long way in establishing itself as one of the most viewed league in the world. The formula of blending a fiercely contested sport with an ever so vibrant Bollywood has proved to be a sure shot winner.
Coming to the end of it and into the playoffs, THE top four teams, based on the points scored, qualify for playoffs. We are no strangers to the importance of finishing fourth in the English Premier League, as well.
So, with IPL around the corner and the English Premier League nearing to a nail-biting end, we decided to take a look at top four most consistent IPL teams.
Note: Teams with at least three seasons are taken into consideration.4) Kolkata Knight Riders (50.63% Win Percentage)
Probably the most glamorous IPL side, KKR got off to a rocky start in IPL. After a failure to finish in the top half of the table for first three years and deemed 'not good enough' by the experts, Shah Rukh Khan, with some careful yet clever management brought in players who were not only effective but highly ambitious.
A change in captaincy along with the injection of some fresh names did the trick for KKR as they won their first championship in the year 2012 and repeated the feat in 2014.3) Sunrisers Hyderabad (55.81% Win Percentage)
Before you all commence the 'keyboard war' against us, we would like to point out the fact that Sunrisers Hyderabad have been a consistent performer, winning one IPL trophy, unlike the teams you support.
Having begun their endeavour in the year 2013, Sunrisers Hyderabad made it quite clear that they mean business. After some shaky initial years, SRH went on to win it's maiden IPL Championship in 2013 under the leadership of David Warner and will be looking to repeat the feat again this year.2) Mumbai Indians (56.9% Win Percentage)
The only IPL team that has two proper nouns in its name, Mumbai Indians is owned by India's richest man Mr Mukesh Ambani. The team started under the leadership of God Of Cricket - Sachin Tendulkar. First few weeks of the inaugural season proved to be a headache for South-West based side as Tendulkar was suffering from an injury. But after his return and a 'dream crossover' opening partnership with Sanath Jayasuriya, saw Mumbai fire on all cylinders.
What otherwise looked like a dismal season, proved to be the one to cheer for, after MI failed to qualify for semifinal by a single point. From that point on, the Mumbai paltan have never looked back and have Rohit Sharma's captaincy to thank for leading them to three IPL titles.1. Chennai Super Kings (60% Win Percentage)
Love them or hate them you cannot deny the fact that there has been no side as consistent as Chennai Super Kings. Their knack for qualifying for playoffs (semi-final earlier) made them look like Arsenal FC, who no matter how the season went, always crept into the top four at the end.
We know they've been involved in a lot of controversies and even got suspended for two years from the tournament, but Dhoni's leadership and his vision to build a team with the perfect balance of youth and experience have reaped rewards, not only in IPL but in the Champions League T20 as well. Winning the former three and latter two times.
