In January, there were rumours that Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is joining politics. Back then, he clarified all those rumours saying that there's no truth in it. 

There have been speculative stories that I am joining politics. Please allow me to clarify that there's no truth in this. At the moment, I am merely a retired cricketer who like all of you is waiting for India's series win in Australia.

What sounded as some baseless rumour two months ago has now turned into reality after the left-handed-batsman officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. The announcement was made in the presence of BJP President Amit Shah and Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Arun Jaitley.

Reportedly, 37-year-old Gambhir is inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform. If sources are anything to go by, then Gambhir may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election that begins in April, from New Delhi.
