Oppo's Upcoming Smartphone Has an Unusual Pop-Up Camera & We Kind Of Like It

If 2018 was all about notches, then 2019 seems like the year when all manufacturers are trying their best to get rid of it. The best full-screen display implementation I've seen so far has got to be Vivo's Apex 2019 smartphone. It doesn't have a front-facing camera though, so I'll let it slide.

There's, however, a new smartphone on the block from Oppo, and I've got to say, it has the most unusual-looking notch that I've ever seen on a smartphone till date. Here, see for yourself:

It's not a standard-looking pop-up camera module which we've seen previously with phones like the Vivo V15 Pro. Instead, the Reno's camera appears to come out a triangular-module that pops out. I know, it looks a little weird at first, but honestly, I kinda dig it. It looks like a shark's fin, no? Am I the only one who thinks that?

Look, I am not really a huge fan of the Oppo Find X's sliding mechanism. There's too much to deal with, and I want to my smartphone to be a tool for me, instead of a precious commodity that I'll have to pamper while using it. The standard pop-up camera module also looks a little weird. The Reno's wedge-shaped peeking shooter, on the other hand, caught my attention.

I saw it earlier this morning on Twitter, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't staring at it for a good minute. Slashleaks even posted a video showing this module in action. Check it out -

Another reason why I like Reno's module is because it also houses the speaker and the front-facing flash. Yes, the module is big enough to fit in all of that and the result is a clean full-screen display.

With all that being said, there's still a lot that we don't know about this particular phone. Oppo hasn't confirmed anything so far, so I'll reserve my judgement on the phone for when it's launched.
