Who doesn't love sweet and savoury foods? Is there anyone on this planet who hates it? I highly doubt it!
Of course, they're delicious and satisfy our taste buds like no other food. However, these cravings need to be managed if our fitness goals are of utmost importance. Especially the goal of weight/fat loss.
Let's understand how we can manage these temporary cravings without messing up with our fitness goals!
Situation – A Box Of Sweets/Chocolates:
Before that, I would want you to imagine a situation where a box of sweets/chocolates is opened and placed in front of you. What will your immediate action be?
If you're a fully functional human, you'll try to eat it. This is clear. However, the main question is - Will you:
1. Just eat 1-2 pieces and stop?
2. Eat the whole box
Ask yourself this question and be honest about the answer.
Okay, I'm Honest. What To Do Now?a) Just Eat 1-2 Pieces & Stop – Feed Your Cravings
My recommendation for this would be to feed your cravings and have 1-2 pieces from the box. Adjust the calories of those pieces into your caloric budget of the day and roam guilt free.
General guidelines – 2 pieces of chocolate contain 100 Kcals(calories). 1 piece of your favourite sweet contains around 150 kcals(calories).
Congratulations, now you're a free man! Sweets/chocolates have less power over you. Eating 1-2 pieces of that chocolate will make you happy and increase your chances of sticking to the nutrition plan. Your fitness goals won't be affected now.b) Eat The Whole Box – Throw The Box Away!
Fortunately and unfortunately, the above approach won't work for you. You need to take a stricter approach of handling this situation. Why? Because your fitness goals are at stake!
You will do best if you restrict the intake of those sweets. For you, cravings can increase if you try feeding them by eating 1-2 pieces. With time, staying away from sweets will have a beneficial impact on you.
My recommendation for this case:
- Do not buy these kind of foods at all
- Skip the shopping space where these foods are kept
- By any chance, if you have these at your home, keep them out of your reach
- Hide them in boxes which are not transparent. You won't be able to see them!
- Give them to the underprivileged kids. The smile on their faces will make your day!
Eventually, you will be a free soul. In the coming days, these boxes of chocolate will have lesser power on you. You will save a lot of calories and hence, reach your fitness goals faster.
