Until a few hours ago, Sundar Pichai was known as the CEO of Google. But, now he will also be known as the CEO of Alphabet, after co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped down from their posts.'
In a letter bidding goodbye to their managerial roles, Larry Page and Sergey Brin wrote "While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it's time to assume the role of proud parents — offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!"
And with that, the 47-year-old IIT Kharagpur alumni became the CEO of Google's parent company as well and left the whole country beaming with pride.
Page and Brin will continue to remain board members and shareholders of the company.
I'm excited about Alphabet's long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. Thanks to Larry & Sergey, we have a timeless mission, enduring values and a culture of collaboration & exploration - a strong foundation we'll continue to build on https://t.co/tSVsaj4FsR— Sundar Pichai (@sundarpichai) December 4, 2019
Pichai wrote a letter for other employees where he spoke about how change has been the only thing constant in his 15+ years in Google. According to Pichai, this change has come 15 years after he first met Page and Brin. He wrote, "I first met Larry and Sergey back in 2004 and have been benefiting from their guidance and insights ever since. The good news is I'll continue to work with them -- although in different roles for them and me. They'll still be around to advise as board members and co-founders."
He further added, "The founders have given all of us an incredible chance to have an impact on the world. Thanks to them, we have a timeless mission, enduring values, and a culture of collaboration and exploration that makes it exciting to come to work every day. It's a strong foundation on which we will continue to build. Can't wait to see where we go next and look forward to continuing the journey with all of you."
While it's great news for Pichai, no one is happier than desi people who have flooded social media with congratulatory messages for him.
Well, we can understand their excitement, this news brings hope to all the desi engineers.
India's most robust export product is probably the 'Global CEO.' It's now a universal perception that Indian executives are leadership material. If only there was some way of monetising these 'exports,' India would have a perpetual balance of payments surplus! ð https://t.co/y1n4EZeCaW— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) December 4, 2019 December 4, 2019
