Crimes against women in India are still on the rise with daily reports of young girls and women being kidnapped, assaulted, raped and murdered making it to the front pages of national dailies. As women continue to live under constant fear over their personal safety, a noted young man from Varanasi took it upon himself to make life a little bit easier and safer for women.

Known Varanasi-based innovator Shyam Chaurasia, who is known to have created the 'Iron Man' suit besides many other useful innovations, recently developed a 'lipstick gun' that Chaurasia claims can help women to escape from dangerous situations.

The regular looking lipstick gun is equipped to trigger an explosion like sound and also send a distress signal to the police emergency number 112. The gun can be recharged when needed and can be connected to the mobile phone via Bluetooth. 

Chaurasia developed the gadget in a month's time and will be available in the market for around Rs 600.

Speaking to HT Chaurasia said, “If a woman is caught in an uncomfortable situation, she can simply press the button fitted in the socket. This will trigger a loud explosion-like sound and also send a message to 112. It is easy to carry and since it is fitted to the normal lipstick, it will not raise any doubts.”

It's great to see men trying to find ways of helping women and make their lives easier and safer.
