The city of joy has found yet another reason to make merry as it takes the crown for being India's safest city for the second year in a row! Kolkata took the top spot owing to the lowest rate of known recorded offences recorded.

The news came to light after the National Crime Records Bureau recently released its report for the year 2018, and as per the report, Kolkata has a score of 152.2 on the scale that measures known recorded offences per lakh people. The report also mentioned that Kolkata is closely followed by Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai to be the other safer cities in the country.

However, according to the report, West Bengal's overall performance isn't worth boasting about. 

The report also claimed that Bengal is the fourth-most violent crime-prone state, while its crime rate stood at 46.1, higher than states like Jammu and Kashmir (25.6) and even Uttar Pradesh (29.2).

The state's only saving grace has been its better performance when it came to preventing crime against women. Bengal has also slipped to the 10th position in rapes.

This would definitely come as happy news for residents and other Bengalis living outside their home state.
