BCCI & Team India Fans Remember Charulata Patel After The Superfan Passes Away At 87

While the Indian cricket team were in the middle of a great run during World Cup 2019 before the disappointing loss to Kane Williamson and the New Zealand side, one of their biggest and most heart-warming highlight came during Indiaâs match against Bangladesh at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.

The cameraman caught one of the most excited fans at the venue, a 87-year-old Charulata Patel, who was seen cheering for the Men in Blue whenever Rohit Sharma walked down the pitch to slam a six or one of Jasprit Bumrahâs yorkers gave the Bangladeshis a tough time at the crease.

Well done camera man you have captured the amazing spirit this videos shows that age is just a number and She proves it with her enthusiasmð#INDvBAN #hitman pic.twitter.com/2FhCXFQydk

"I love this Indian team and all the players are like my kids," she said after the match.

Came to be known as âCricket Grandma,â her energy and the passion for the game and that for Virat Kohliâs team was so pure that both the skipper and deputy in-charge, Rohit Sharma had to come out of the dressing room and spend some quality time with her after winning the ODI clash.

Kohli even put out a tweet sharing how incredible it was to meet the superfan:

Also would like to thank all our fans for all the love & support & especially Charulata Patel ji. She's 87 and probably one of the most passionate & dedicated fans I've ever seen. Age is just a number, passion takes you leaps & bounds. With her blessings, on to the next one. ðð¼ð pic.twitter.com/XHII8zw1F2

âAlso would like to thank all our fans for all the love & support & especially Charulata Patel ji. She's 87 and probably one of the most passionate & dedicated fans I've ever seen. Age is just a number, passion takes you leaps & bounds. With her blessings, on to the next one,â wrote the cricketer.

But earlier this week, her grandchildren shared the heartbreaking news that their grandmother was no more.

â"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you, our beautiful grandmother took her final breath on 13/01 at 5.30pm. She was such a sweet little lady, it's true 'small things come in small packages' our Dadi was a delight, she was/is truly extraordinary. She was our world. I want to thank you all for making her feel special last year, she loved the attention,â they wrote on an Instagram post.

âA big thank you to @virat.kohli you made her feel extra special, meeting you and @rohitsharma45 was the best day of her life (she told us this on multiple occasions). May Lord Shiva bless her atman always, please all say a prayer.â

The official BCCI Twitter handle extended the teamâs condolences towards the familyâs loss.

#TeamIndia's Superfan Charulata Patel ji will always remain in our hearts and her passion for the game will keep motivating us.
