Deepika Receives Flak For 'Chhapaak' Makeup Look On TikTok & Fans Call It 'Cheap Publicity'
Actress Deepika Padukone is a famous face who enjoys an insane amount of fan following for various reasons. She is not only a phenomenal actor, who justifies each role she takes up, but is also a woman of strength who has never shied away from speaking up, be it about mental health or heartbreak.
Recently, when the entire country was questioning the deafening silence of Bollywood over the CAA & NRC protests, Deepika surprised everyone by showing up at JNU and standing in solidarity with the students there.

Soon '#boycottchhapaak' was trending and people called it just another publicity stunt. However, on the other side, she also proved that not everyone in B-town is a mute spectator and also won a lot of love on the internet.
Chhapaak has received rave reviews from the audience as well as the critics, and everyone is loving her portrayal of an acid attack survivor called "Malti". However, her movie and Deepika herself are back under the radar.
This time, her fans on social media are super upset with her for calling Malti's look as one of her top favourite looks of all time and challenging a make up artist on TikTok to recreate it as well.
And just when we thought that @deepikapadukone couldn't mock Lakshmi anymore through her PR stunts in JNU she comes up with tick tok challenge on acid attack victims. Gross. pic.twitter.com/077Uz7hcEg
— Dr Smokiee (@SmokingSkills_) January 18, 2020People on social media are finding this unacceptable and feel that this is a mere mockery.
No @deepikapadukone.This promo isn't cool or cute. It's insensitive & ghastly.
The movie wasn't about you & your make up. It was about a woman scarred for life. And victims like her, whose marks can't be wiped off, unlike your make up.
You lost the plot,alas. https://t.co/9Zt8XEmSqI
Acid attack Make-up ?? How low it can get ??
Shame on you !! @deepikapadukone

Besides, some fans claim that even though it was a mere make up look for the actor, she should have been a little more sensitive towards this issue.
The problem with Deepika Padukone endorsing a makeup challenge on Chhapak is that she treated it as one of her “looks” and dismissed the entire trauma behind it. She proved that it was merely makeup for her & she clearly doesn't understand the depth of what survivors go through.
— x (@krownnist) January 18, 2020How cheap is this. 'Acid attack victim look' is @deepikapadukone's 'favourite look'? https://t.co/lR9bv2HIGq
— Shefali Vaidya (@ShefVaidya) January 18, 2020So “Acid Attacked Face” has now become challenge now. This is the worst kind of a promotion by @deepikapadukone. Shame on you

While one might claim that this was a challenge about recreating the aesthetics of a particular look but like they say, words once spoken cannot be taken back. Deepika's choice of words and calling her Chhapaak character a favourite make-up look has obviously hurt sentiments. The actor is yet to comment on this row.
