Saurav Ganguly is arguably one of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket teamâs history. Recently, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has requested the current BCCI President to be the Goodwill Ambassador of Team India for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

According to IANS, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta wrote to Ganguly asking him to be at the games which will be held in Tokyo from July 24 to August 9.

He also wrote, "We are expecting participation of about 100-200 athletes across 14-16 sports disciplines at Tokyo 2020. Team is a mix of senior athletes as well as youngsters who are making their debut at the Olympic Games.â 

"You are an inspiration for a billion people, especially the youth. As an administrator you have always nurtured young talent. We are hopeful that your association with Team India to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 would be a boost for our young athletes and a privilege for the Olympic movement in India," he added.

We all know that Ganguly, the Indian team Captain, is widely loved and has fans across the globe.  

The invitation letter also stated, "We hope you will generously extend your support for Team India to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.â

Earlier, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Salman Khan, A.R. Rahman and Beijing Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra were Goodwill Ambassadors for the Rio Games in 2016.
