Gautam Gambhir Lashes Out At Dinesh Karthik After Kolkata's Loss To Chennai

If one was to rate the teams on the basis of their misfortunes this season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would undeniably come out on top. The MS Dhoni-led brigade had a forgettable campaign that eventually, made them the first team to get knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year.

But Chennai isn't the only team on that list. Giving them tough competition are none other than Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) whose inconsistency even lead to the change in captaincy mid-season. While Kolkata isn't knocked out of IPL 2020 like CSK yet, their road to Playoffs witnessed a major roadblock after their recent loss to Dhoni's men.

The former Kolkata captain came down hard on Dinesh Karthik for stepping down as captain midway through the tournament.ย

"It just shows the mindset. You left captaincy because you wanted to concentrate on batting, but then it hasnโ€™t worked, so probably sometimes itโ€™s good when you take up responsibilities. What Iโ€™ve realised when I was through a worse phase in 2014. I got three ducks in a row when we started the tournament. It was captaincy that helped me that I could get back into form,โ€ย

Gambhir told cricket.com

โ€œThe reason why because when I was not batting, I was thinking about how to make the team win through my captaincy and the decision making. But when youโ€™re not captaining, youโ€™re thinking even more about your batting,โ€ย

he added.

With six wins in 13 matches so far, Kolkata are currently placed fifth in the table with 12 points for their showing.ย

In a bid to qualify for the Playoffs, KKR, now, will not only need to win their remaining game but have to do so with a big margin to improve their net run-rate. They will also need Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to lose both their remaining matches and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to lose one of their two games.
