Paying homage to classic Bollywood scenes can be a bit risky at times, but when done correctly, it is simply, awesome.
Well that’s exactly what Rajkummar Rao did when he paid a rather dope homage to Amitabh Bachchan’s now famous, light bulb costume from Yaarana

The thing is, how well a homage is, actually largely depends on the execution. For Laxmmi Bomb, or Laxmii as it is now known, Akshay Kumar paid homage to a scene from Sangharsh, where Ashutosh Rana delivered a terrorising ululation.

That one, unfortunately, wasn’t exactly executed properly. That, along with the troubling premise of the upcoming film, meant that it certainly wasn’t taken well.
Rajkummar Rao’s outfit, and therefore the homage, was actually well-executed.
We actually like the fact that instead of old bulbs, the makers of the costume used LEDs & thinner wires. That surely must have helped to keep the silhouette slightly slimming, and more shapely.

In his upcoming film, Ludo, Rajkummar Rao plays a character who seems to be obsessed with the Bollywood of the 1970s & 1980s. Hence the oversized, quirky sunglasses, which, thanks to its white colour, stands out on its own.

Then there are the golden boots that he’s wearing. Although they look like snakeskin boots, they’re actually a pair of patent leather boots, made out of faux leather.
The bling of the shoes goes perfectly well with the bling of the overall outfit. All in all, this is kitschy maximalism at its best.

Funnily enough, the 70s and the 90s were some of the most experimental times as far as fashion is concerned.
Sure, we had some ethereal pieces, and some stars, who were legit fashion icons. But some of the outfits from these eras, especially films or songs which dealt with disco even remotely, were whacky AF.

All in all, Rajkummar does look dope in the outfit, and had it not been a thought-out ensemble for promoting an upcoming film, he would certainly be giving Ranveer Singh a really tough competition.

Amitabh Bachchan would certainly be proud.
