Just a few hours ago, among the frenzy of the US Presidential elections, a Twitter trend surprised everyone.ย
Paneer tikka seemed to randomly become the topic of discussion and what's more surprising is that it is, in fact, related to the US elections.
Let me explain, but first, let's jog our memories at what paneer tikka actually looks like.
ยฉ Swiggy
Pretty standard, right? Well, what if someone told you that they made paneer tikka and presented you with this.

That suspicious-looking dish started an entire debate online and it was hilarious.
It started with Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal sharing the picture of the dish and saying that she made this comfort food in honour of Vice President candidate Kamala Harris.
Compulsive, night-before-election activity: make comfort food. Thatโs paneer tikka tonight, in honor of electing #KamalaHarris Veep tomorrow since she just said on Instagram that her favorite North Indian food is any kind of tikka! Letโs go, people! VOTE! #BidenHarris2020 pic.twitter.com/gqyT7BotgG

All is well and good but where is the paneer tikka because that dish looks way too suspicious. Oops, there is an imposter among us.ย

And, when you do anything related to desi food, you're playing with fire, literally and figuratively.
As soon as she tweeted the picture, people chimed in with random pictures of food, calling them by the wrong name. It became an entire thing and one of the most hilarious threads and trends we've seen recently.
That dosa looks fluffy.
