Milind Soman Gets Booked For Obscenity Over Nude Pic & People Say ‘Yeh Toh Hona Hi Tha’

It seems ‘equality in the eyes of law’ that the Constitution of India promises to deliver and uphold for every Indian citizen isn’t totally a farce after all. While endless instances around us will have you believe that it might be a mere phrase that is often abused by the privileged lot, we are in for a surprise this time.

Turns out, after Poonam Pandey, actor-model Milind Soman has now also been booked by the Police under IPC Section 294 (Obscene acts and songs) and 67 (Punishment for publishing/transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of IT Act (Information Technology Act) for his birthday post on social media wherein he could be seen running naked on a beach in Goa.

Now, we must recall how Soman’s nude picture was praised by one and all on social media as fans flogged to the post and admired the actor for his physique and looks at 55. On the other hand, Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay were detained by the Goa Police for allegedly trespassing into a government property and shooting an obscene video at the Chapoli Dam.

This incident was a reminder of people’s hypocrisy and how bias works in our society, not only with regards to power but also gendered privileges.

Many had raised this point over the last few days,

#PoonamPandey & #MilindSoman both stripped down to their birthday suits in #Goa recently. Pandey partly, Soman completely. Pandey is in legal trouble--for obscenity. Soman is being lauded for his fit body at age 55. I guess we are kinder to our nude men than to our nude women. pic.twitter.com/qQ9UFQIYXJ

It’s good to see that every defaulter is being penalised equally regardless of their status or popularity. And obviously, people have a thing or two to say about this development.

Ye twitter walon ka hi karaya hua hai. People were tagging Goa police and saying if Ponam Pandey can be booked why can't Milind Soman be? Why this hypocrisy? Why this misogyny? Goa police took it seriously.

However, some are also divided over the decision.

Indians have all the time in the world to register meaningless cases.

By this logic aamir khan should also be booked for posting obscene photo as film poster. pic.twitter.com/78TI2woDnJ

This is unnecessary harassment for him. His private parts were not visible. There is nothing obscene material in it. I don’t think that pic violated the said law by @milindrunning under IPC 294 & 67

In the land of Naga saadhus and Digambar Munis, imposing perverse victorian sense of morality on natural human form... Absolutely ridiculous.

We presume he will also be let out on bail just like Poonam, here's hoping.
