Labelled as under-achievers over the years, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did their reputation no favour after yet another heartbreaking exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite an improved showing in the league stage that allowed them to finish in the top four, Virat Kohli-led RCB just couldn't manage to break their trophy drought this season.
With 14 points for their showing, the Bangalore franchise had given their fans hope that this year might be different, only it wasn't. Taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the all-important Eliminator, RCB were handed a crushing six-wicket loss on a forgettable night in Abu Dhabi.
Asked to bat, RCB's star-studded batting line-up failed miserably against a rampant Hyderabad brigade. Barring AB de Villiers (56) and Aaron Finch (32), none of the RCB batsmen could get going including captain Kohli (6). And, the fact that only three batsmen got past 10 runs further shows how disappointing RCB's batting unit was in a game that mattered the most.
