Anyone getting married anytime soon in Gurgaon can now expect some wedding crashers, and they can't even do anything about it.
As if there weren't enough things for cops in the city to do, they have now been promoted to do a very hard task as well - attend weddings. What a great addition to their job description.
With a pandemic going on, weddings and other social gatherings have been highly discouraged and protocols have been put in place so that a large number of people don't gather in one place and increase the chances of the spread of Covid-19.

And, even after all that, the police is now required to attend weddings and make sure people are wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. While, in theory, it seems like this new step was taken with good intentions, but in practice, it just seems way too bizarre and dystopian.
First of all, most of the people go to weddings to just eat, and it's hilarious to think of someone pulling up their mask while eating because they spotted a cop.

Moreover, the main, most important question everyone had was are the police going to stay for dinner as well? Who's going to pay for the extra plates for the guests no one invited.
bro dinner bhi zaruri hota h

— VISHAL MOHAN (@vishalmhn) November 24, 2020 Hmm.So pathetic that instead of protecting women n cracking crime cases, the police has to turn into our nannies because we are just such irresponsible people. Very unfair to victims of crime. Gurgaon Cops To Attend Weddings, Check Guests w/o Masks, Issue Fine https://t.co/W6xk1V6UhH
— Bharati Chaturvedi (@Bharati09) November 24, 2020 Yes, please start with public places.Gurgaon cops need to do this in marketplaces first. Half the population there doesn't wear masks and keep spitting everywhere! Sadar Bazar, Vyapar Kendra, Chattarupur etc have become contamination hubs. You won't see a single policeman checking anyone for masks there.

— CA Mehraj Hassan (@camehrajhassan) November 24, 2020 Great.Thank god now there's no crime in haryana, no murders, no rapes, no land grabbings. So now the cops are free to jail and fine extra guests at weddings. Great https://t.co/dIBTPhsFHK
— Pathak Pahalwaan🇮🇳 (@PPahalwaan) November 24, 2020 Seems like it.will free food be provided? I mean it'd be rude to not do that
— abdel aziz (@youlovekarela) November 23, 2020 Who?Ok, but who pays for their food plates
— Sojan™ (@sojanjs) November 23, 2020 Let's hope no booze is involved since they would be working.Eat the food, drink the booze as well? https://t.co/wKc4jlI9uv
— Coded Transmission (@ahmad_shadyxl) November 24, 2020 Don't know. How will the guests eat? They go to eat na? https://t.co/7WfJ9xxPOg
— Malay M (@atlas47) November 23, 2020 Hmm.When you let the cops to regulate your private spaces, it is going to result in highhanded misbehavior.
Even the risk of pandemic is not worth this bad precedent
Inviting people to your family functions or attending them are private decisions. https://t.co/74zwCuLviR
