If you’ve ever wanted to own a castle, it seems like you finally have your chance. Italy is giving away 103 run-down properties, including villas, inns, and castles, and that too for free.

However, there’s one catch – whoever gets a free castle, or any other of the 103 castles, has to commit to restoring it so it can be used as a tourist destination, according to the country’s State Property Agency.

The new owner will also have the freedom to turn their new property into anything they want, be it a hotel, spa, restaurant, or anything else.

“The project will promote and support the development of the slow tourism sector,” Roberto Reggi from the State Property Agency told ‘The Local’. “The goal is for private and public buildings which are no longer used to be transformed into facilities for pilgrims, hikers, tourists, and cyclists,” he added.

The deadline is June 26th and all the successful applicants will be given a nine-year period to work on their project, and there is a possibility of extending it for another nine years.

If you’re interested, you’ll have to submit a proper proposal about your plans for the property and how you will turn it into a successful tourist destination.
