In a tragic development, Tamil TV actress VJ Chithra died by suicide on Tuesday night. She was 28 and the news of her untimely demise has come as a shock to the world of TV and cinema in the Southern industry. 

Known for playing the role of Mullai in the popular Tamil show Pandian Stores, the actress was found hanging at a five-star hotel in Nazarethpettai, according to media reports.

The news reports suggest that Chithra had finished shooting at EVP film city and had returned to her hotel room at 2:30 am in the wee hours of Wednesday. 

She was staying with her fiance, businessman Hemanth, to whom she got engaged a few months ago. They were about to tie the knot in January. 

Her mortal remains have been kept at Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem. 

VJ Chithra's Claim To Fame 

Chithra worked as a presenter on various TV channels in the Tamil industry. She was last seen in the hit show Pandian Stores. 

The actress had earned a huge fanbase through her role as Mullai. Being an avid social media user, she used to entertain her fans with her endless beautiful photos and posts.

Her Entry Into Showbiz 

The actress started her career as a video jockey and soon, began getting offers to act. She was also signed to play a lead in an upcoming film. 

In an interview with TOI in August this year, Chithra had said, “My character works in a BPO and certain incidents happen around her life. It is a thriller… but there will be a message of sorts… something like Aruvi. The film is titled Calls.”

According to a report by Indiaglitz, Chithra had been staying with her fiance Hemanth at a private hotel in Chennai. The couple got engaged a few months ago and she often took to Instagram to share pictures of the two. 

After returning to her hotel room at 2.30 am on December 9, she told Hemanth that she would refresh and be back. However, she did not return for a long time. 

Hemanth the found that her room was locked from the inside and hence sought the help of the hotel staff for a duplicate key. 

Hemanth and the hotel staff found Chithra hanging from the ceiling fan. Later, a hotel staff alerted Nazrathpettai police and the formalities were carried out. 

Soon, her fans took to Twitter to express their shock at the tragic development.
