We all have said something along the lines of ‘aisa sirf filmon mein hota hai’ at one point or another in our lives. You know, how some things we see or hear of, seem just too good to be true, so we resort to a more believable explanation instead.

But for the locals of a Venezuelan fishing village, the boundaries between reel and real life seem to have blurred and how. It all began when 25-year-old Yohan Lares found a gold medallion and the Virgin Mary’s image on the village beach in Guaca.

Venezuela has been facing an acute economic crisis, thanks to the pandemic outbreak and as expected, this discovery gave the struggling people a new lease of life. Speaking to The New York Times, Lares recalled how he began to shake and cry of joy. He went ahead and shared the news with his father-in-law and as is common in small villages, the news soon spread all over the village.

Other villagers rushed to the shore in the hopes of trying their luck, and many got lucky and found gold rings. The most needy ones went ahead and sold their treasure for as much as $1500 to buy food, something many haven’t been able to afford due to the economic slowdown.

People are still trying to find out where the gold came from and sufficient theories have since surfaced surrounding the treasure trove. However, The New York Times has also reported that business has picked up since the discovery of gold on the beach and gas supply in the village, which was facing major shortages, has also improved.

Local fish plant worker, Ciro Quijada, who also found a gold ring on the beach, said: "This is God, setting his agenda."

Coincidence or miracle, what do you think?
