Why Alia Bhatt And Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' Has Landed In Legal Trouble

Gangubai Kathiawadi is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and this is his first collaboration with Alia Bhatt who plays the titular role. The movie has been adapted from one of the chapters of Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It has been in the limelight ever since its inception and now, it has been trending for all the wrong reasons.

While people are eagerly waiting for the film's release, the makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi have landed in legal trouble. According to the reports doing the rounds, the family members of Gangubai have filed a case against Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt at Bombay civil court. They have objected to the plot of the movie.

The trouble doesn’t just end here as Hussain Zaidi, whose Mafia Queens of Mumbai, the film is actually based on, has also filed against the actor and the director.

The movie will see Alia as Gangubai Kothewali, a gun-wielding and one of the most powerful, loved, and respected brothel owners of Kamathipura brothel during the 1960s. Sold into prostitution very young, Gangubai became influential in the city, with notorious criminals serving as her clients.

The shoot was stalled but the team has started to shoot again in October. Alia has quietly been shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi and most of the film’s shoot has been happening at night. A Mid-Day report had quoted a source who said, “To maintain continuity, Sanjay sir picked up the shoot exactly from where he had left it. Since October 1, Alia and the team have been reporting to the set by 7 pm, and the stint goes on till the wee hours of the morning. Although a part of the grand set had been pulled down ahead of the monsoons, the portion resembling Kamathipura had been left untouched. So, the director has been able to shoot without any hiccup.”

We wonder how Alia and Bhansali would react to this.
