All I Want Is The First Indian Film To Win The Diversity At Cannes andamp The Audience Choice Award

Whenever we have read, spoken or heard about Cannes in the last few days, we have only managed to talk about how hot Aishwarya, Sonam and Deepika looked on the red carpet. No offence to the beauties, they did their bit. However, allow me to shift your attention to the only Indian entry that’s been worthwhile at the film festival. ‘All I Want’ is the first Indian movie to win the ‘Beyond Borders Diversity of Cannes Short Film Showcase’ and the best film in the audience choice category.

Directed by Venika Mitra, the movie tells a simple tale of a young street urchin named Ratan and his pursuit to buy a mango. The idea came from her own love of mangoes.  The movie was running in competition against 231 another entries. It was a low budget film with a stellar production team that even included Oscar winner, Resul Pookuty.

This is a feather in the cap of Indian cinema and it’s this kind of exposure and recognition that we need to ensure the quality of our cinema stays pure and we leave our mark on the global map as a country.
