A spokesperson of the Interior Ministry has said that a particular political party's claim that the ministry is behind the leaking of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's son Hussain Nawaz's interrogation picture is nothing but a baseless assertion.

A leaked picture of the premier's son waiting inside an interrogation room in what seems to be the headquarters of the Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on May 28 went viral on Sunday.

In a statement, the spokesperson said the capital police ? which fall under the ministry ? are only responsible to providing security outside the Federal Judicial Academy, declared the JIT headquarters.

The spokesperson clarified that the neither the police nor the ministry has any internal involvement inside the academy.

He added that no department of the ministry is connected with any JIT member, not with its workings and recording of CCTV footage.

To play politics on such sensitive issues is uncalled for, the spokesperson stressed.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry claimed the Interior Ministry was behind the leaking of Hussain's picture.

Hussain has appeared four times before the JIT, which is probing the global financial dealings of the prime minister's family in light of the April 20 Supreme Court judgment in the Panama Papers case.
