District Collector Slaps Youth For 'Violating' Lockdown In Chhattisgarh & Smashes Phone On The Road

Recently, a District Collector in Chhattisgarh slapped a youth who was reportedly out to buy some medicines amid statewide lockdown on Saturday. He didn’t only slap the boy, but he also smashed his phone on the floor and asked the cops to beat him up along with ordering an FIR against him.

Now, the video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The incident took place in the Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh. In the video, you can see District Collector Ranbir Sharma taking the youth’s phone and smashing it on the road.

After this, he slaps the youth even when he tries to show him some papers and explain why he is out during lockdown.

Check out the video here-

This brute is District Collector of @SurajpurDist, Chhattisgarh Ranbir Sharma. Has been suspended. Deserves far worse, of course. The IAS officer was reportedly transferred in 2015 on bribery charges. Should be made an example of and serve prison time. pic.twitter.com/qmV9YnVy6y

In the video, we can see the District Collector refuting to listen to the youth. After this, some cops running towards them, and one of them can be seen beating the boy on the collector’s orders. He is then joined by another cop who starts beating him up.

And towards the end of the video, the district collector was heard instructing the cops to lodge FIR against the youth.

However, now after the video went viral on social media, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday removed the collector.

The IAS Association also condemned the behavior and took to Twitter saying, “It is unacceptable and against the basic tenets of the service and civility. Civil servants must have empathy and provide a healing touch to society at all times, more so in these difficult times.”

The collector had, however, apologized for his actions.

Here’s what people have to say about this on social media-

सर, बच्चे का मोबाइल भी तोड़ा था। कलेक्टर साहब की सैलरी से बच्चे को दूसरा मोबाइल खरीद कर देना चाहिए।
