Kohli & Sharma’s Balcony Actions Upset Joe Root As Rishabh Pant Tries To Defuse The Situation

As expected, the India and England Test series is already getting a bit salty when it comes to dealing with complicated situations with a cool head and the final moments of Day 4 of the second Test at Lord’s was one of the more prominent examples of it.

After 82 overs in the second innings for the Indian cricket team, the touring side were at 181/6 with a 154-run lead and Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma on strike and were eight overs short of the daily quota at 90.

However, skipper Virat Kohli and opening batsman Rohit Sharma had other plans and wanted to pause the game for the day blaming bad light in London. So the two giants, who were sitting in the iconic Lord’s balcony, began to make gestures towards the pitch, calling their batsmen on the ground to come back early.

Additionally, the bowling side also were also entitled to use a new ball which would have brought back the pace and spin challenge for lower-middle order of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

As a result, the captain of the opposing side, Joe Root was seen being visibly upset with Pant being the one to bear the brunt and try to defuse the situation in the best possible way he could - with a smile.

The fans who were present in the stadium were also upset with the Indian captain and felt that he pressured the on-field officials into ending the day sooner than they should have for a reason which wasn’t strong enough.

Surprisingly, the balcony fiasco wasn’t the only eyebrow-raising event of the day. First it was the verbal battle between Kohli and James Anderson on the non-striker’s end which got the viewers all riled up.

Then came the moment of potential ball tampering in which the cameraman caught two of the English fielders stepping on the match ball with their spiked shoes, thereby risking the original condition of it, even if it wasn’t intentional.

The incident was brought to the fore by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, in his typical sarcastic manner but later, English pacer Stuart Broad also began to speak publicly, sticking by his teammates’ side and calling it just a common mistake.
