‘Are We Fools?’ Fans Slam Selectors’ Sugar Coated Words For Shikhar Dhawan’s T20 World Cup Snub

Chetan Sharma, the chief selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently talked about dropping Shikhar Dhawan from Team India’s final roster for the T20 World Cup 2021. However fans aren’t convinced with the logic he gave in his address to the press.

Chief selector (in Press) said, “ Shikhar Dhawan is a very important player for us, he was the captain in Sri Lanka. But the need of the hour was that we look at other players and give him some rest, otherwise he is an important player and he will be back very soon. ”

“Shikhar Dhawan is a very important player for us, he was the captain in Sri Lanka. But the need of the hour was that we look at other players and give him some rest, otherwise he is an important player and he will be back very soon,” said the chief selector.

The whole idea behind resting senior players is so that they are ready for big moments like the T20 World Cup and to say that Dhawan was being given some rest during the tournament does not make any sense. Additionally, it has been over a month since Dhawan returned to India after touring Sri Lanka as the captain of the B-string of the Men in Blue.

If the concern about his resting was so serious that maybe he should have opted out of playing in the remainder of the Indian Premier League for the Delhi Capitals but clearly that is not a concern.

Fans clearly saw through the facade that was being created to gently put down the 35-year old, despite his incredible record in the past ICC tournaments.

Lol. Rest in the world cup to khilayenge kab?

Professional athletes aren’t as weak as many perceive them to be. Over the years of constant criticism, falling in and out of form and marred by injuries, they mentally prepare themselves to take on bad news. Shikhar Dhawan is the kind of guy who wouldn’t throw a fit if told that he was dropped from the squad for his age.

However, to say that he is being made to rest during the T20 World Cup tournament, which definitely could have been his final hurrah, does not only sound spineless on the part of the decision makers but is also a big insult to the legacy that Dhawan will be leaving behind.

According to the selectors, it will be the young and energetic southpaw Ishan Kishan who will be replacing Dhawan as the opener for the Men in Blue during the T20 World Cup 2021 matches.
