In wake of ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Pakistan will have to move forward carefully

With the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled to begin in less than 10 days, the soon-to-be chief executive of Cricket South Africa Pholetsi Moseki has opened up about the positive impact of the tournament on the careers and future of the various South Africa players who get picked by one of the 10 franchises.
Over the course of time, a lot of international critics have said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been throwing their weight around the International Cricket Council and influencing the bilateral schedules of international teams in order to fit in the IPL nicely within their calendars so that the best of the players from all over the world are available to play.
Mickey Arthur has suggested England players to stop participating in IPL to improve their Red Ball game.
— Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) February 16, 20222 months is way too long for IPL every year. It should either be one month long or played every other year.
— R (@_rivj) March 13, 2022They are making a big mistake by increasing the number of teams & matches in #IPL. Money is big but the motivation to win & quality of cricket will eventually go down. More foreign players will pull-out. Tournament is too long.
— Arslan (@ArslanTahir) March 11, 2022The criticism grew stronger when two more franchises were included within the growing grasp of the league which meant that the duration of the tournament was also going to increase, leaving even less time for other bilateral series to take place globally.
Moseki, on the other hand, has moved beyond these issues of calling out the Indian T20 league about how long it is going to be from the 2022 season onwards. There isn’t any sort of criticism that is coming out of his mouth regarding the tournament or the Indian cricket board, because of one simple reason - the financial sustainability of the South African players.
English players pulling out from the IPL citing bubble-fatigue issues…after making themselves available knowing fully well what they were signing up for…might make the IPL teams skeptical about looking in their direction in the future.
— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) March 11, 2022
As the next leader of all of the cricket in South Africa, one of the major concerns for Moseki would be to generate enough money for their top-tier players. The kind of sums that these athletes earn within a single season of the IPL is often good enough to set them up for life and the CSA executive is thankful for that.
Many of the cricketers who decided to not play for their national teams only to appear in the IPL have also been called out for choosing money over patriotism but Moseki sees absolutely no problem with it.
“The amount of money players make at the IPL is good for their post-cricket careers and livelihoods. It's a delicate balance. The players take playing for the country very seriously. So if a player goes to the IPL [instead of turning out for the national team] it doesn't mean they think less of the country or they are less patriotic," he said in a press conference on Wednesday while defending the players for going to the league to secure a nice life for their families and themselves.

The Kashmir Files has turned out to be one of the biggest success stories in recent years. The film directed by Vivek Agnihotri has been doing record-breaking business at the box office and it continues to grow with each passing day.
The film is based on the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles.
The film has received such an unprecedented response not just from the audience but from the politicians as well that it has been declared tax-free in several states in India.

Interestingly, the massive success of The Kashmir Files has led some people to recommend another political thriller Parzania that was released in 2007.
Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Parzania starred Naseeruddin Shah, Sarika and Parza Dastur and was based on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Recommending the film, one social media user wrote, “If you love movies based on true stories like #thekashmirfiles, I have more options for you. #Parzania:Inspired by a true story, a Parsi couple attempt to find their son who went missing in Gujarat Riots. #Firaaq:A haunting portrayal of Gujarat post the 2002 riots. #GujaratFiles”.
Another user tweeted, “To those who are watching and believing #TheKashmirFiles , should also watch #Parzania - #GujaratRiots 2002”.
One tweet read, “Watched Kashmir Files? Felt enraged? Fully understandable. Now also watch these 2 movies -Final Solution by @rakeshfilm -Parzania by @rahuldholakia And show that your anger is not selective & political”.

To the delight of billions of Indian cricket fans, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has cleared his fitness test with “flying colours” at the National Cricket Academy.
Heading into the IPL 2022, the Baroda all-rounder’s fitness was a cause of concern but his recent results have put all that to rest. Apart from his overall fitness, he has impressed the NCA experts with his bowling as well, clicking above 135 kmph consistently.
View this post on Instagram
According to a PTI report, the Gujarat Titans skipper achieved an impressive score of 17-plus in the Yo-Yo test, which has become a benchmark for fitness in recent years.
“He didn't need to bowl at NCA but he has bowled for a considerable time and in the range of 135 kmph. On the second day, he crossed the Yo-Yo test with flying colours with a 17-plus score which is much above the cut-off level,” a source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that the BCCI wouldn’t allow the 28-year-old to take part in the cash-rich league unless he cleared his fitness test.
With just over a week left in the start of the T20 extravaganza, it has come as great news for all the Gujarat Titans supporters, who wanted a fully fit leader commanding their side and leading by example.
View this post on Instagram
However, this news received a mixed response on the micro-blogging site. There were people who wished the fast-bowling all-rounder for the upcoming season and hoped he did justice to his immense talent.
Then there were those who still had doubts whether he would be able to produce the result on the field. Questioning his loyalty, some fans argued that he got fit only because he was being paid heavily by his franchise.
View this post on Instagram
After acing this fitness test, it’s clear that Hardik will be seen bowling at full tilt for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. The all-rounder knew that he was ready to bowl but wanted to keep fans guessing.
When asked about the same at the Gujarat Titans’ jersey launch event a couple of days back, he had given a rather silly response saying: “Sir, it would be a surprise, so let it be a surprise.”
View this post on Instagram
Hardik’s response had caused a huge outrage on social media, with people flocking Twitter to bash the all-rounder.
Talking about his Yo-Yo Test, it’s not clear exactly how much he scored in the test but it was good enough to clear the test comfortably. But there are players in the Indian team who have scored much more than what Hardik did in the same drill.
View this post on Instagram
A score of 16.5 is the bare minimum a player requires to clear the Yo-Yo test and Hardik certainly cleared that with quite an ease. However, compared to other top cricketers like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, he still has a long way to go.
The former India skipper, regarded among the fittest cricketers in the world, notched up a score of 19 on the same parameters.
Hardik’s score is good but there is still room for improvement.

Rishi Kapoor was busy filming for Sharmaji Namkeen when he passed away in April 2020.
The film was left incomplete and as his son Ranbir Kapoor revealed in a special video, the makers considered using VFX but that didn’t work.
Later, Ranbir tried to finish his father’s last film by using prosthetics but that attempt failed as well.
That’s when makers had a unique idea of roping in another actor to play the same role in the remaining portions of the film and treating the audience with Rishi Kapoor’s final performance.

The trailer of Sharmaji Namkeen features Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal playing the same character, probably a first in Hindi cinema.
The film is a unique coming of age story of a retired man and how he decides to live his life the way he wants to.
The trailer is funny and heart-warming and hits you right in the feels.
Take a look at it below:
Reacting to the trailer, one fan tweeted, “How beautifully they present the trailer of #SharmajiNamkeen. I mean i am just amazed & emotional at the same time, literally gotta goosebumps! Life mein aur kya chahiye... Two powerhouse of acting in the same film, #RishiKapoor & #PareshRawal. #SharmaJiNamkeenTrailer”.
Another wrote, “It's odd and wholesome at the same moment to see two legendary Indian actors play one character in one movie. Watching #SharmajiNamkeen will be a different experience for sure.”

Finally, Pakistan managed to save the second Test match against the touring Australian side at the National Stadium, Karachi.
Thanks to brilliant performances by Babar Azam (196), Abdullah Shafique (96) and an unbeaten Mohammad Rizwan (104*).
However, during the final overs when Mohammad Rizwan was batting on 91 with tail-ender Nauman Ali on the other end, Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja dropped a regulation catch from Rizwan.
This catch, if taken, could have proven to be the decisive moment in the contest and Australia would have defeated Pakistan and taken a 1 – 0 lead in the 3-match series.
View this post on Instagram
The missed opportunity cost Australia Mohammad Rizwan’s wicket who completed his hundred and stayed unbeaten on 104 off 177 balls after umpires called stumps on the final day as Pakistan escaped with a draw.
The relieved Pakistani fans then took to Twitter and made fun of Khawaja for the dropped catch. One of the users called him ‘One of our own,’ pointing towards the Pakistani origin of the Australian cricketer.
GIVE USMAN KHAWAJA PAKISTANI CITIZENSHIP FOR THAT DROP CATCH IDC
— Haroon (@ThisHaroon) March 16, 2022You can take usman khwaja out of pakistan but you can not take pakistan out of usman khwaja. What a match saving drop. Thank you
— nma (@namaloomafraaad) March 16, 2022Khwaja bhai hm Pakistani bhai bhai good drop catch #PAKvAUS
— . (@Baloch__777) March 16, 2022On the behalf of Karachi I would like to appreciate Usman Khawaja our very own nazimabad boy for his crucial service today.
— Ramiya 2.0 (@yehtuhogaaa) March 16, 2022Usman Khawaja at dropping Rizwan in the last few overs. #AUSvsPAK pic.twitter.com/zfwHB9vz91
— Mehran Khan مسٹر خان (@mehrankhan89) March 16, 2022Though most Pakistani fans were happy with the draw, some questioned Babar’s intent and attitude in the match.
They felt that the way Babar played on the final day, showed that his focus was on completing his double hundred and wanted to somehow save the match whereas, the team could have gone for a victory if he had paced his innings a bit faster.
Rizwan did try to go for the kill with aggressive intent. However, it was too late by then.
Questions have also been raised on the timid approach with which PCB has been getting the pitch prepared. Australian players too are not happy with the quality of the pitches in Pakistan.
View this post on Instagram
The fans were also a bit heart-broken with the fact that Babar missed his double ton by just 4 runs. Shafique too was unfortunate and missed his hundred by 4 runs.
Pakistan finally managed to draw the match with an impressive 4th innings score of 447/7. The final match in Lauore will decide which team takes away the valuable points for the ongoing World Test Championship.

Prithvi Shaw, the young Indian batsman, failed the yo-yo test ahead of the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on March 26. It will not, however, prevent him from playing for the Delhi Capitals in the lucrative league.
He was one of the players that attended the BCCI camp for cricketers to examine their injuries and fitness.
Shaw is not currently on the central contract, but he was summoned to the NCA to provide an update on his health. The fact that he failed the test indicates that the results are unsatisfactory. The yo-yo test requires a score of 16 to pass, and it is expected that the Mumbai opener will achieve a score of 15.
Prithvi Shaw has failed in the Yo-Yo Test but he is allowed to play in IPL as he is not considered in any formats right now. (Source - PTI)
— Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) March 16, 2022 Nonetheless, the fans of the Indian cricket team were absolutely annoyed by the fact that an athlete as young as Shaw was unable to clear the Yo-Yo test while older players like Hardik Pandya, who’s recovering from a long-term lower-back injury, cleared it with flying colours.

How are these guys getting managed? Who are looking after them when they are not in the team?
Do IPL teams have no standard of fitness? If there is one, then whose job is to manage these guys when IPL is not happening? https://t.co/CxSdkjG3UB
— A-Man (@ratedAMAN) March 16, 2022Prithvi Shaw, what is this behaviour man?
That's bare minimum you are expected to do. https://t.co/o1R2kGvfPE
— Cricketjeevi (@wildcardgyan) March 16, 2022No disrespect to Shaw, but imagine if it was Pandya, cricket twitter would have gone crazy https://t.co/izHmiJ3yKN
— Ashutosh Mittal (@IAshutoshMittal) March 16, 2022Not Fat-Shaming him, neither do I endorse the authenticity of this news..
But the youngsters like Shaw and Pant have to adhere to the fitness and when the age is at the right side , its not that difficult.. https://t.co/CsSBd2jW8T
— Sumeet Mishra (@sumeetmish) March 16, 2022If can't focus on fitness,he should never be considered. https://t.co/GvnTF8yjBP
— Arpan (@ThatCricketHead) March 16, 2022 A BCCI source informed The Indian Express that the update was merely fitness-related. Obviously, this does not prevent Prithvi from participating in the IPL for the Delhi Capitals. It's only a fitness metric; it's not the be-all and end-all.
The 22-year old was a member of the Mumbai team that competed in the Ranji Trophy recently. He appeared in three straight games but failed to make an impression, scoring only 107 runs in four innings at a 26.75 average. Shaw's fitness difficulties, according to the source, may have flared up as a result of tiredness from playing red-ball matches in the domestic circuit.
The last time Shaw played an international match for the Men in Blue was on July 25th 2021 when India faced Sri Lanka at Colombo. Even though the top-order made his international debut in the longest format of the game when he was a part of the squad in the 2018 series against the West Indies at home, it has been over a year and a half since he got back into the Playing XI.
Look away, India fans #AUSvIND https://t.co/KIHgW6U2w2 pic.twitter.com/QN6IVSSW6K
— Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) December 19, 2020
When India lost the infamous first Test match of the 2020-21 tour of Australia at Adelaide while being wrapped up for 36 runs in the second innings, Shaw’s personal scorecard read 0 and 4 in the first and second innings, respectively.
The damage that was done to his reputation during the match has not healed to date and with him failing the Yo-Yo test, who knows how long will it take for him to become a member of the senior cricket team.
