We Indians are obsessed with the English language. Call it the influence of the West or a parting gift from our colonisers, the British (or Britishers, as said in ‘Indian English’), we love to walk and talk in English even if it’s incorrect, wrong or broken.
© Red Chillies Entertainment
Well, we are still learning. However, we are so used to saying some terms and phrases in day to day life that now, they just seem right and legit to us.
Recently, a Reddit thread discussing common English mistakes that Indians make made us realise how our English completely sounds sensible and correct even when it’s not.
© Colour Yellow Productions
The OP wrote, “Because some sentences might sound correct, but it's not. And some sentences are technically right but they sound funny. i.e Hindi speakers often literally translate "Main aisa/aisi hi hun" as "I am like that only" Or "Tu pagal hai kya ?" as "Are you mad or what ?" these sentences are technically correct, but damn... sound so basic convent school kids' English.”
© Dharma Productions
Here are some phrases or words that we Indians mess up without realising and it’s hilarious how they still make sense:
1. “What Man? (equivalent to KYA BE/Bhai). What Sir? (More formal variant of the same)” –Vapourhands
2. “Noticed lots of people end the sentence with "only". Example - P1- "You should do it this way" P2- "yeah, I have done it this way only" This is so common that even I started using this!!” –kj_venom11
3. “In a recent Instagram post, Parthiv Patel (Indian cricketer) posted the following - "Happy Anniversary @wife, may you continue to take my load forever" I hope the post was deleted or updated, was appalled when I read this post .” –atulshanbhag
© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
4. "Slowly slowly" is good example. No one uses this except us. –philosophucker88
5. “Referring to a wedding as 'marriage'.” –faahqueimmanutjawb
“I swear, our head professor got so triggered when a classmate, once said that he "went to [his] cousin's marriage". Our professor spent the next half-an-hour elucidating on the difference between "wedding" and "marriage"; and the correct use of both. Lol –cherrybombvag
6. “Over usage of “basically” “Basically my name is Sara” “I am basically a computer science student” I will basically slap you in the face. (Sorry for the aggressiveness, I read and evaluate letters from the students to department at Uni im so tired lmao)” –SLakshmi357
7. “Give exam - incorrect Take exam - correct” –medguy_15

Well, we basically use wrong English every day but we make it work only. So, who cares?

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s latest directorial The Kashmir Files is on course to be a blockbuster at the box office.
The film has already collected over Rs 60 crore in just 5 days of its release and will most probably hit Rs 100 crore in week one of its release.
Amid the unprecedented success of the film, a video has surfaced online of director Vivek Agnihotri when he visited Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Hyderabad, a couple of days before the release.
© Vivek Agnihotri Instagram
In the video, Vivek is seen answering media questions when he gets into a bit of an altercation with the police. The filmmaker is seen asking the cops to not push him and stop the media instead.
Vivek asks the police officer, “Sir, main ek filmmaker hoon. Media se mera vaasta hai aap mujhe kyun mana kar rahe hain yahaan? Baat kyun nahin kar sakta unse main aap kaaran bata dijiye main chala jaunga. (Sir, I am a filmmaker hence I am interacting with the media. Why are you stopping me from doing so? Give me the reason why can’t I talk to press, I will leave.)”
The cop then responds saying that this is not the place for a press conference, it’s a temple premise.
© Vivek Agnihotri Instagram
Vivek replies, “Toh aap inko mana kijiye mujhe kyun aap dhakka de rahe hain? Why are you pushing me? Unko hataiye. Aap media ko hataiye na. Agar law and order ka problem hai toh unhein rokiye mujhe kyun rok rahe hain? (So, you should stop the media. Why are you pushing me? If there is a law & order situation, you should stop the media and not me.)”
Take a look at the video below:
The Kashmir Files stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Chinmay Mandlekar, Prakash Belawadi, Puneet Issar and Mrinal Kulkarni.

After registering his first Test series win as a captain, India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma has joined his Mumbai Indians family for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).
Rohit’s record as IPL captain is second to none as he has guided the Mumbai-based outfit to five trophies, making them the most successful franchise in the IPL history.
View this post on Instagram
However, this year is going to be special for the 34-year-old cricketer as it will be his first season after becoming full-time captain of the Men in Blue.
Having guided India to 14 consecutive wins across three formats, the right-handed batter is high on confidence and he would like to emulate the same result in the 15th edition of the lucrative league.
View this post on Instagram
The talismanic leader received a warm welcome as he met with the MI support staff in the team hotel. From head coach Mahela Jayawardene to fast bowling coach Shane Bond, the former greats shook hands with their captain and shared a laugh or two.
A normal working day in the #MumbaiIndians camp!

— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) March 16, 2022
In a video shared by the franchise on their Twitter handle, Jayawardene can be highlighting the biggest difference in the opener’s physical appearance.
While extending his arms towards the skipper he joked how his hair has grown more grey ever since he started leading the Indian team. “He has got more grey hair after beginning captaincy,” says Jayawardene with a cheeky smile on his face.
View this post on Instagram
Jayawardene made these remarks quite casually but the truth is leading Indian cricket is not an easy job. As a commander of the ship, the amount of pressure that the Indian skipper goes through is not easy to deal with.
The Indian captain is always the centre of attention, whether on the field or off it, and it does start to take a toll on the body. After all, they are also normal human beings.
View this post on Instagram
This excessive pressure is perhaps the reason why former skipper Virat Kohli wanted to reduce his workload and decided to give up the captaincy in the shortest format. It’s another thing that he eventually had to give up the role in the remaining two formats as well owing to different reasons.

— ICC (@ICC) December 8, 2021
Before this season, Rohit only had the responsibility of leading Mumbai Indians but now that he is also the India captain, his workload will increase considerably. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares while managing both.

When the movie The Kashmir Files was released, no one thought it would turn up to become a topic of national debate. Especially the Bollywood fraternity, which is now being accused by several people on Twitter of being silent over the film that sought to bring light to the horrendous exodus of Kashmiri Pandits back in the 1990s.
© Zee Studios
From calling out big Bollywood stars for not promoting the movie to criticizing those who are taking the impact of this film seriously, the audience seems to have developed a connection with the film and with what Vivek Agnihotri aspired to get across to the Indian audience.
Perhaps that is why, when film critic Anupama Chopra, decided to first not review the film and subsequently, had a rather unflattering review of ‘The Kashmir Files’ posted on her publication - Film Companion, some people didn’t take it all too well.
Having become a sudden cause of concern, a lot of people on social media are dissing the Indian journalist and film critic for her remarks and commentary on the latest release ‘The Kashmir Files’.
For the uninitiated, she took a stance of not receiving the film since she claims to have already been called ‘biased’ and decided to maintain silence over it.
However, in the review that her website Film Companion posted, written by Rahul Desai, the film was called a ‘defensive and dishonest dive into the past’.
In fact, a part of the review even said, “Dramatizing a story of persecution and oppression is not a problem; the lesser-known Children of War comes to mind. Designing it solely to provoke and prey on the insecurities of today is a problem. This is less of an education and more of a defensive political statement and living-room debate parading as a movie.”
#TheKashmirFiles @anupamachopra : You r a biased reviewer in the mould of a jihadist sympathiser.
My wife is a Kashmiri Pandit. The stories mentioned are true. For you to whitewash the genocide - you are pathetic.
Cc: @TheAtulMishra @vivekagnihotri https://t.co/SayFRZn9Tl
— ANJAN SENGUPTA (@anjansengupta16) March 12, 2022
Other excerpts from the review read, “the treatment is so desperate to villainize the Kashmiri Muslims that it ends up reducing the Kashmiri Hindus to cultural corpses; I’m not sure which community might be more offended.”
This is such an atrocious review of #KashmirFiles
Filmcompanion is owned by Anupama Chopra whose husband Vidhu Vinod Chopra made a movie to white wash Kashmir hindu gen0cide. So they are upset on #VivekAgnihotri for bringing out truth of Kashmir https://t.co/ioVtXXriJE
— Swathi Bellam (@BellamSwathi) March 11, 2022
In an article posted by Op India, the review on Anupama Chopra’s website was called ‘stomach-turning’ as the writer wrote, “By publishing this stomach-turning review of The Kashmir Files, Anupama Chopra has chosen to savour the blood spilt by the Islamic terrorists and revel in the trauma of Hindus.”
Pathetic! Anupama Chopra giving 2 stars for Uri, 1.5 starts for Kashmir files and Gehraiyaan 4 is just. What a joke!! Im boycotting this manipulative channel #boycottfilmcompanion
— Bhagyashree (@Bhagyas67397172) March 13, 2022
Meanwhile, people on Twitter are dropping comments like, “You're a biased reviewer in the mould of a jihadist sympathiser. My wife is a Kashmiri Pandit. The stories mentioned are true. For you to whitewash the genocide - you are pathetic.”
This is how the leftists are plaguing the country. First, they denied Kashmiri Pandits' genocide. When slapped (hard) with the truth, they played it down by misrepresenting it as "mere exodus" and try to dampen their story.https://t.co/MFWM40NNHv

Another user wrote, “Pathetic! Anupama Chopra gives 2 stars for Uri, 1.5 stars for Kashmir files and Gehraiyaan 4 is just. What a joke!! Im boycotting this manipulative channel #boycottfilmcompanion.”
Unimpressed by her take on the film, especially since her own husband is a Kashmiri Hindu, people have called her and her website’s remarks on the film, ‘distasteful’.

Over the years, Bollywood has succeeded in making many feel-good movies that have entertained fans throughout their childhoods and adolescence.
Now, while we have a really long list of movies that you can watch over and over again, there aren't many films on the same level as the 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna.
© Netflix
Starring two of the biggest superstars of Bollywood, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, the movie turned out to be a laughter fest. And this was when the movie failed to do the magic at the box office during its initial phase of release in cinemas.
The cult comedy also starred Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, and Karisma Kapoor, and fans still do reruns of the movie.
© Netflix
Now, it was earlier reported that the movie's sequel Andaz Apna Apna 2 was also in the works, with director Rajkumar Santoshi helming the project as well.
© BCCL
Well, looks like he's given an important update on the film.
According to reports, Santoshi went to Aamir Khan's house on his birthday just recently in order to meet him personally. While we don't know if the movie was one of the reasons behind their meeting, Santoshi sure has something to say about it.
As per a Pinkvilla report, the Bollywood director revealed that he's currently writing the script of the film. “I am writing the script, but I should be satisfied with the final story too. So when the script is ready, we will think about the star cast and everything. Meanwhile, I have other films in the pipeline too.” said Santoshi.
Now, we know what you're wondering. What about Salman and Aamir then? And what about Karisma, Paresh Rawal, and Raveena, who was recently seen in Netflix's Aranyak?
Santoshi revealed that if their return is integral to the film, then they might and he will confirm it.
“We haven’t thought about it yet, if the story requires it then we will see,” he said.
As you know, Salman will next be seen in Tiger 3 and the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan film Pathan.
© YRF
On the other hand, he will also be seen alongside Aamir in Laal Singh Chaddha. Hopefully, Andaz Apna Apna 2 will be their next project together!

Interestingly, the film has now become the highest Tuesday grosser post-pandemic beating other big Hindi films which were released amidst the coronavirus pandemic. It has beaten several pre-COVID biggies too.
Below, let's take a look at the list of several pre and post-COVID biggies that earned less than The Kashmir Files on the first Tuesday:
Sooryavanshi (2021) View this post on Instagram
Featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi was the first big Bollywood hit that was released amid the pandemic. On Tuesday, the film had collected Rs. 11.22 crores.

The Kashmir Files has emerged not only as a movie, but a phenomenon that has taken over the country in less than a week's time. Already on its way to the 100 crore club, this small budget movie has been able to do something that will hopefully instill faith in earnest moviemakers to aim for big things, even without 'connections' in Bollywood.
View this post on Instagram
Apart from its dream run at the box office in terms of collections (almost 70 Cr within 5 days of release), this film has also struck a chord with the public in general, which is previously unheard of. People are applauding the team for opening the floodgates of dialogue about what happened to lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits more than 30 years ago.
View this post on Instagram
Amidst this dialogue, a scene from the movie Bemisal (1982) starring Amitabh Bachchan has come under scrutiny, for a scene that talks about Kashmir. Here is a Youtube link of the movie.
The controversial part starts 11:50 onwards, where Amitabh Bachchan starts talking about hill stations, and the conversation eventually moves to Kashmir. He goes on to say that every single hill station in India has been discovered by the British, except Kashmir, which was discovered by the Mughals. The camera then moves on to Rakhee, who praises the Mughals in terms of their music, paintings, and architecture. Some Twitter users have not taken this scene kindly at all, and posted the same on the platform.

— Vivek (@Vivek24111735) March 16, 2022 People are referring to the history portrayed in The Kashmir Files, where the history of the valley goes way back to the ancient times, compared to which the arrival of Mughals turns out to be a rather recent event. While this debate is essentially subjective and warrants thorough research (rather than giving credit to a single entity for discovering an important geographical location riddled with controversy and sensitivity), one must admit that the movie has opened up floodgates that will impact Bollywood in ways unimaginable henceforth.

With each passing day, The Kashmir Files is continuing its strong run at the box office. So much so, that its fifth day, which was Tuesday, became its highest single day ever collecting Rs 18 crore and taking its 5-day total to Rs 60.20 crore.
While The Kashmir Files is on a record-breaking spree when it comes to small films, its performances have equally been appreciated.

Recently, Anupam Kher took to Twitter and shared a fan-made image of his character from the film alongside late Hollywood actor Heath Ledger’s Academy Award-winning turn as Joker in The Dark Knight.
Sharing the image, Anupam wrote, “Anonymous compliments are the best because you know they aren’t trying to gain anything out of it!! Thank you my anonymous friend for making this. I am delighted to see it!! #TheKashmirFiles @vivekagnihotri”.

Another wrote, “Don't embarass Indian Cinema in front of the world by such stupid comparison. You're a good actor, no doubt, but there are 20 more veteran actors in India itself who can act better than you. You can be a JOKER but cannot act like him!!!”
One tweet read, “WTF?. Heath Ledger? Seriously? I take this personally on behalf of Heath Ledger... It's an insult to Him...”

— Vikramaditya (@Vikramaditya_85) March 15, 2022 Anupam Kher is not the first actor to make such a comparison, almost a decade back Vivek Oberoi first did it post his supervillain turn in Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3.
He had then said that people are comparing his performance as Kaal with Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight and also Johnny Depp.
Similarly, back in 2016, Ranveer had stated while talking about his performance in Padmaavat, “I am on the threshold of entering completely uncharted territory. I'm scared of stepping into that rabbit hole. I fear if I go in, I may not come back. Like Heath Ledger. He didn't come back. He went so far into the rabbit hole that it took away everything from him. I can say I'm living life on the edge”.

No points in guessing, both Vivek Oberoi and Ranveer Singh were mercilessly trolled and Anupam Kher has joined the list.
