The announcement that all the cricket fans have been eagerly waiting for finally came on Saturday as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) revealed their captain for the upcoming season. RCB posted a video on social media in which their former skipper Virat Kohli passed on the captaincy baton to former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis.
“I can't be happier for the team and Faf. He is a good friend and we get along very well. Looking forward to a good season,” the outgoing captain Kohli said in a recorded video.
“Happy to pass on the baton to Faf! Excited to partner with him and play under him” - A message from @imVkohli for our new captain @faf1307. #PlayBold #RCBUnbox #UnboxTheBold #ForOur12thMan #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/lHMClDAZox
    — Royal Challengers Bangalore (@RCBTweets) March 12, 2022
"We've been in touch for many years now. He's one of the few guys I've gotten to know a little bit more apart from the cricket. My partnership with Faf is going to be exciting. The squad we've put together is amazing. Our team looks balanced and strong, and I can't wait to get started," Kohli added.
Du Plessis was the player of the match in last year's IPL final as he smashed 86 runs off 59 balls to take Chennai Super Kings to a match-winning total of 192 for three.
Faf du Plessis said "Virat Kohli's leadership footprint within the indian team, a competitive fit team that fighting fire with fire that Indian team haven't did before"

The former South Africa captain thanked the RCB management for entrusting him with captaincy and shared his views on how he would like to lead the team in the upcoming season.
"Coming in as an outsider, I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity. It's no small thing to trust an outsider, an overseas player to do the job as a leader leader. My style in doing that is not going to be 'my way'. I will rely heavily on amazing experience of our domestic and international players," Du Plessis said in Bengaluru.
"Having been a leader for a while, I've been on the journey for creating a culture, it's close to my heart. First and foremost, my style will be a relational style. To connect with players and start to get to know everyone. The first part of my journey would be to build relationships, try and make sure what are the small things that make each individual tick and how to get the best out of the them," he added.
The Leader of the Pride is here!

The couple was supposedly on their way to another place when they were approached by the paparazzi. The Bollywood singer-composer posed with his wife for paps, however, drew the attention of social media users for a completely different reason.

In their continuing Women's World Cup encounter at Seddon Park in Hamilton, India batters Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur both struck hundreds to help the team to a total of 317 for eight.
As India recovered from losing three quick wickets to post a commanding score, Mandhana smashed a scorching 123 off 119 balls, while Harmanpreet complemented her with a knock of 109 off 107 balls. The cricketing community praised the two for their batting performances against the West Indies on Twitter.
Mandhana and Harmanpreet contributed 184 runs for the fourth wicket as India was reduced to 78 for three at one point.
And while the two ace hitters were on point with their game on the field, one of the most amazing things about Mandhana that fans paid special attention to was her ability to make her partner engaged by making her smile through the tense situations.
Mandhana’s India teammate Harleen Kaur Deol also spoke about the batter’s jolly nature and how it did not distract her even a bit while she batted her way to an impressive century alongside Harmanpreet.
Itni lambi innings me @mandhana_smriti ne kitni baar kaha “arrey Harry di hasso na yaar.” Superb guys. It was a delight to watch..!!! @ImHarmanpreet #CWC22 #IndvsWI

    — aditya yadav (@imyadavji) March 12, 2022While in the first half of the match, the Indian batters were clearly the dominating force, a lot of people were nervous about the bowling attack and questioned whether or not will they be able to hold back the Windies from chasing down the 317-run total.
However, all their questions were answered when Sneh Rana took charge of the bowling side of Team India’s performance and dismissed three batters, including the two dangerous openers Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews. Meghna Singh also scalped a couple of wickets while Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and the veteran Jhulan Goswami picked one wicket each.

India's number seven MS Dhoni and 18 Virat Kohli in men's cricket have made a lot of bowling attacks look toothless at times and put on numerous match-winning partnerships. However, on Saturday (March 12) the jersey was the same but this time it was to women cricketers from India who dismantled the West Indies bowling attack.
In their third game in the ongoing women's World Cup, India's opening batter Smriti Mandhana and vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored centuries to help the Women in Blue register an emphatic victory and get their campaign back on track after a dismal show against New Zealand in their previous encounter.

Mandhana and Kaur added 184 runs for the fourth wicket after India lost three batters in the span of 29 runs. The opening batter scored 123 runs off 119 balls while Harmanpreet got to her fourth ODI century as India posted a humongous total of 317 for eight on the board.
For her knock of 123, Mandhana was adjudged player of the match but at the post-match ceremony, she insisted that the ICC must give another trophy to Harmanpreet who too reached the three-figure mark.

"Scoring a century and not being a player of the match is something I wouldn't want. I think we both contributed equally for us to score 300. It is good to share the trophy. I'm sure the ICC will be giving another trophy, they have enough budget (smiles)," Mandhana said during the post-match interview.
Applauding the camaraderie between the two Indian women's players, fans termed it as a great gesture.

    — Ananya Upendran (@a_upendran11) March 12, 2022In reply to India's 317, the West Indies were bowled out for 162 inside 41 overs. With the massive 155-run win, India climbed to the top of standings.
The Women in Blue now have four points after three matches and although five teams are on same points, India's superior net run-rate has put them to the top of the table.
