Rohit Sharma had a brilliant start to his Test captaincy career as India hammered Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in Mohali.
Most things went Rohit’s way as the hosts outplayed the opposition in all three departments of the game. However, there was one thing that the new Indian skipper would have loved to pan out differently than it did at the PCA stadium.
A perfect beginning to his Test captaincy

We take a look at the series of events when @ImRo45 led #TeamIndia in whites at Mohali for the first time. #INDvSL | @Paytm

Rohit made everyone a fan with his proactive captaincy but his low score with the bat spoiled the party a bit. Once agains he was found wanting against the short-pitch bowling, getting out while playing a pull shot.
The short-pitch bowling has been a nemesis of many Indian batters but the ‘Hitman’, being one of the finest pullers of a cricket ball, wasn’t considered to be one of them. In fact, if there is one Indian player who has mastered the art of playing a pull shot in recent times, it was Rohit.
    © Twitter/BCCI
Front foot, back foot, in front of the square, behind the square, Rohit has a complete range of pull shots which fetch him runs on a consistent basis. However, this same shot has led to his downfall in recent times.

People have started wondering if he should curb his natural instincts and refrain from going after the short balls. Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar, who knows a thing or two about batting, feels that the Mumbai batter needs to work out the percentages and be mindful of when to go for pull and when to stop.
    © Reuters
The ‘Little Master’ opines that the bowlers are well aware of his affection for the put shot and they also know that he often loses control and ends up playing the ball in the air. So, the clever bowlers have started using his strength as his weakness and the 72-year-old believes that Rohit should also change his game plan going forward.

According to the batting maestro, Rohit should put his trademark shot in the “cold storage” till he is well set and has 80, 90 or 100 runs against his name.
    © Reuters
“He has got to think about it. You can argue that it is a productive shot but that is not the only shot. He has got so many others. Now every bowler who has a little bit of pace will fancy his chances against him saying, 'I don't mind going for a couple of sixes or boundaries but there will be an opportunity because he hits the ball in the air',” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“So he has got to work the percentages out. If he still thinks that the percentages are working in his favour, then go on playing but at the moment, they aren't working in his favour. So maybe he should put it in cold storage till he gets to 80,90, 100,” said Gavaskar, while giving Rohit a piece of his advice.
    © Reuters
No doubt, pull shot has always been Rohit’s strength but he must realise that it’s been making him vulnerable to the opposition. Now that he is a leader of the squad, he needs to value his wickets much more.

Giving Gavaskar’s advise a try might be the best way to start.

Legendary Aussie spinner Shane Warne died of a heart attack while on a vacation in Thailand on March 4.
While the sudden demise of the legendary Australian bowler left the cricketing fraternity in shock, a few comments from some of the greats of the game have left fans fuming.
Former India captain and legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar had to face the wrath of fans for his insensitive comments on Warne's death.
The anger of fans on social media saw Gavaskar posting a video on his Instagram account and apologising for his untimely remarks about Warne.
Another comment from a legendary cricketer is doing the rounds on social media and fans are not happy with it at all. This time it is Warne's former teammate Ian Healey who is facing heat from fans.
Healey, regarded as one of the best wicket-keepers in cricket's history, had said that Warne's early demise did not surprise him as the 52-year-old did not look after his body.
“An early passing didn’t surprise me for Warnie. He didn’t look after his body that well. He yo-yoed up and down. He didn’t put much sunscreen on. I thought it would have become skin issues for him over time, but not at 52. And he would have been full of beans right to the end, I bet,” Healy said on Nine's Today show.
These remarks did not go down well with fans and they hit back at 57-year-old Healy, asking him to show some respect for Warne.
Disappointed in Ian Healy’s comments re: “not surprised Warnie died young.” Really, Heals? You couldn’t have kept that one to yourself for now as the Warne family grieve whilst digesting this shocking news?!

Read the room. Do better.#RIPShaneWarne #cricket
    — TGB (@ThatGongBloke) March 5, 2022What a jealous creep https://t.co/JIpXUThwOX
    — anna knnon (@knnon_a) March 8, 2022I saw that too, how disgraceful of Ian Healy
    — Kat (@KatKatsebo) March 5, 2022Gavaskar’s comments on Warne was untimely! Was surprised with Ian Healy’s recent interview as well I think on Sky where he said it’s not surprising that Warne is no more considering he didn’t take care of his health! Shocking! Common sense as they say is not so common these days!
    — Pallathz (@Pallathz) March 7, 2022Seriously Healy how about showing a bit more respect.
    — JayCee (@jaycee0202) March 5, 2022 Ian Healy played and travelled the world with Warne and he must be having a better insight about the leg-spinner's lifestyle, but to comment something like this after the person has passed away is just insensitive and he should have refrained from making such statements.
Warne will go down as one of the all-time greats and he is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 708 scalps, only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan who has 800 wickets next to his name in the longest format of the game.

Earlier this year in January, Black Panther & Creed director Ryan Coogler was detained and handcuffed by cops after he was mistaken for a bank robber while trying to withdraw money from his own account at a Bank of America branch.
The shocking incident recently came into the light when a police report was filed on Wednesday, according to Variety.
The filmmaker also confirmed the incident and told the website, “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”
It so happened that the filmmaker was wearing a hat, sunglasses and a COVID face mask and approached the bank teller and handed her a note which reportedly read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”
    © Instagram/ Ratan Tata
The bank teller misinterpreted the situation and mistook him for a bank robber as the amount he was trying to withdraw was more than $10k and informed cops.
Four Atlanta PD officers soon arrived and detained and handcuffed the filmmaker and his colleagues. After verifying Coogler’s identity they released him and his colleagues.
As soon as the news report was filed, it garnered all sorts of responses with many calling it a case of 'racism'. However, it was also reported that the bank teller who called cops on Coogler was a black woman herself.
Now, a video of Ryan Coogler’s detainment has made its way online. The video is from the bodycam on one of the cops. The shocking video has left many people angry as initially one of the police officers is seen drawing a firearm on the filmmaker before going for the handcuff.
In the video, a bank employee can also be heard saying, “Good Job Officer”.

Reacting to the video, one user wrote, “I was telling my coworker earlier today I know for a fact Bank of America would have asked for an ID, his bank card, and for him to enter his PIN number. So after he provided all of this, why did she think he was a robber?”
Another wrote, “This just made me so angry. STOP calling the police on people for misunderstandings. Any common sense would have let them know he wasn't a robber. What bank robber is gonna give you a card, pin, valid  ID and then patiently wait a long ass time while yall counting money?”
One person tweeted, “This is messed up. Like seriously jacked up. This would not have happened to Steven Spielberg in the same clothing, mask, bank. Period.”

    — Name cannot be blank (@hackSultan) March 10, 2022
Addressing the incident, a Bank of America spokesperson told the website, “We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It never should have happened and we have apologized to Mr Coogler.”
Ryan Coogler is currently busy filming the Black Panther sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Imam-ul-Haq, the Pakistan batsman, hit two centuries in the first Test against Australia at Rawalpindi. While striking 157 in the first innings, he backed up his century with an unbeaten 111 in the second, as the game ended in a dreary draw at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Throughout the first Test, the pitch's condition was under close scrutiny, with many former Pakistan cricketers, as well as spectators, criticising the surface's lifelessness.
The hosts bowled out Australia for 459 after Pakistan declared their first innings on 476/4; however, by the time Pakistan came to bat again, there wasn't much time left in the game to force a result. Before both captains shook hands, Imam and fellow opener Abdullah Shafique (136*) stayed unbeaten as Pakistan struck 252/0.
    View this post on Instagram
The pitch in Rawalpindi was also criticised by Australia skipper Pat Cummins and opener David Warner. In a press conference on Thursday, though, Imam defended the pitch and said that they had taken all ten wickets on the surface.
“Obviously when it’s a five-day Test everyone anticipates for a result. But when we go to Australian conditions, they don’t make pitches consulting us but make it according to their will so I think we should see our strength and should live up to our strength,” said Imam.
Imam-ul-Haq has dismissed the debate surrounding the Rawalpindi pitch, insisting that the pitch was the same for both teams ⤵ #PAKvAUS
    — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) March 11, 2022
“I think the Rawalpindi Test was played well as we managed to get all 10 wickets."
Australia’s ongoing tour of Pakistan is their first in the last 24 years, thereby making it a historic event for the hosting side. However, due to the terribly built pitch at Rawalpindi, everyone (other than the two-time centurion Imam, of course) was left with a bad taste in their mouth.
Watching at the atrocious pitch conditions, even the former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer expressed that instead of worrying about sluggish over-rates, the ICC should focus on eliminating 'dead pitches,' which are the biggest threat to the game's longest format.
I find it amusing when Test matches get over inside 4 days yet teams lose WTC points for overrate. The biggest threat to test cricket is not overrate. Tests rarely go to day 5 anyway nowadays. The biggest threat to test cricket are dead pitches. Dead pitch = Dead game. #PAKvAUS
    — Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) March 7, 2022
Upon the conclusion of the first match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) judged the Pindi Cricket Stadium "below average" and docked it one demerit point.
Ranjan Madugalle, the ICC match referee for the Test series highlighted, in his report, that the pitch did not favour the batters and bowlers equally, since it "favoured the former more than the latter."
A dead pitch Rawalpindi Test? This guy has a request to curator of Pindi Cricket Stadium! #PAKvAUS pic.twitter.com/z1467soK7B
    — Arfa Feroz Zake (@ArfaSays_) March 8, 2022
For a rolling five-year period, the demerit points are active. When a venue receives five demerit points (or crosses the threshold), it is barred from holding international cricket matches for a period of one year. If the venue receives 10 demerit points, it will be barred from holding international cricket matches for a period of 24 months.

The ICC Women's World Cup, which is now being held in New Zealand, has already produced a number of close encounters and terrific plays. Pakistan and South Africa are currently playing in the tournament's eighth match. While the game continues without many incidents, the spectators' attention has been drawn to an umpiring blunder during South Africa's innings.
Seven balls were bowled in the 27th over of the Proteas’ innings, and it appears that few people noticed. Omaima Sohail of Pakistan bowled the over, which saw plenty of action, with Laura Wolvaardt slamming a boundary off the second ball.
A 7 ball over (without any wides or no balls) was bowled at the 27th over between South Africa and Pakistan game at Women's World Cup.
    — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 11, 2022
The umpire, however, declared Sune Luus LBW on what should have been the penultimate ball of the over. However, for the second time in the innings, the hitter overturned the decision. The umpire insisted on throwing one more delivery, which turned out to be the seventh ball of the over, while the over should already have ended one ball ago. It seems as if the umpire missed the count thanks to the DRS drama off the final delivery of the over.
Women’s World Cup 2022 has already taken some nasty hits throughout the timeline. From the Indian broadcasters of the event not putting any effort in making exciting promos for the India-Pakistan clash to declaring the wrong team the winners due to scorecard miscalculations, there have been numerous sloppy incidences throughout the tournament that made the fans feel as if the International Cricket Council (ICC) aren’t themselves serious about women’s cricket.
So when this umpire made the Pakistani side bowl a 7-ball over, fans were ready to bring the heat:

After losing the toss, South Africa managed to score a competitive total of 223 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. If Pakistan had held on to their four lost catches and three missed run-out attempts, the score would have been significantly lower. Laura Wolvaardt (75) and Sune Luus (62) were the innings' half-centurions, while Chloe Tryon (31) and Trisha Chetty (31) gave the innings with much-needed momentum.
Ghulam Fatima and Fatima Sana bowled well for Pakistan, sharing six wickets evenly. They'll be kicking themselves for the dropped catches, as the team had South Africa battling at 120/5 after 32 overs. Nonetheless, they have held the opponents to a respectable total and would bet on themselves to beat it. Having said that, South Africa defended 207 runs in their first game of the tournament, and this game is expected to be competitive.

Radhe Shyam, directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, has finally been released today (March 11). Featuring Baahubali Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles, the pan-Indian film has hit the theatres after getting postponed several times amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The audience review is out as fans, who were eagerly waiting to watch Radhe Shyam on the silver screen, have been sharing their reactions on social media.
    View this post on Instagram
Produced by T-Series and UV Creations, the film is set in Europe of the 1970s and revolves around Vikramaditya (played by Prabhas), a Palmist/future teller, who is conflicted between destiny and his love for Prerana (Pooja Hegde). Going by the trailer, the movie looks like an out-and-out Sci-fi Romantic tragedy.

Overall, Radhe Shyam has been receiving mixed reviews and a section of social media users are a little disappointed as the film failed to meet their expectations. However, fans are liking the visuals and chemistry between the lead couple.

After being a background dancer and a choreographer, Arshad Warsi finally made his acting debut in the year 1996 with Tere Mere Sapne produced by Amitabh Bachchan & Jaya Bachchan’s ABCL.
At a recent press conference for his upcoming film Bachchhan Paandey, Arshad Warsi along with Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez and Farhad Samji were asked about their godfathers in the Hindi film industry.
Arshad named Amitabh Bachchan and Tere Mere Sapne director Joy Augustine and went on to add that they “abandoned” him.
    © ABCL
He said, “I would say Mr B (Amitabh Bachchan). I started my career with ABCL, Joy Augustine, they got me into the profession. But then they left me, abandoned me. So, I don't know what to call them. Godfather or what, I don't know”.

Take a look at the video below:

Amitabh Bachchan had started ABCL or Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd and the first Hindi film he produced under his banner was Tere Mere Sapne.

Besides Arshad Warsi, the film also featured Chandrachur Singh, Priya Gill and Simran Bagga.
Answering the same question, Jacqueline Fernandez called filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh her godfather for launching her in Bollywood with the 2009 film Aladin alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Amitabh Bachchan & Sanjay Dutt.
Akshay Kumar called filmmaker Pramod Chakraborty and his makeup man who introduced him to the filmmaker.
Kriti, on the other hand, named multiple people who have helped shape her career including Sajid Nadiadwala, Sabbir Khan and Dinesh Vijan.
Farhad Samji credited Salman Khan for giving him work as a lyricist, Rohit Shetty for hiring him as a writer and Akshay Kumar for putting his faith in him as a filmmaker.
    © Twitter/Arshad Warsi
As for Bachchhan Paandey, the film is a remake of Telugu hit Jigarthanda. It features Akshay Kumar as a gangster, Kriti Sanon as a struggling filmmaker and Arshad Warsi as a small-time actor.

The Farhad Samji directorial is slated to release on March 18.

For a long time, veteran actor Gulshan Grover has maintained his status of being Bollywood's 'Bad Man', a nickname he got in the industry for playing the role of the antagonist perfectly.
There's truly something different about the iconic villains of Bollywood in the 90s films, and Gulshan is right there with the best.
I mean, to be honest, it's only down to his talent of getting into the headspace of a bad guy, to play it so well on the cinema screen.
    © Zee5
Now, Gulshan has done a lot of films, and with the biggest stars in the industry. Be it Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan or Akshay Kumar, Gulshan has worked with everyone and has still managed to hold his own, such as the way he played those characters.

Talking about the big stars, there was a time Gulshan worked with Sridevi in the film Sadma (1983).
    © YouTube
The movie, according to Gulshan was one where he probably learned the biggest lesson of his life.

In the movie, there was a r*pe scene involving Gulshan and Sridevi, and Gulshan wrote about it in detail in his autobiography Bad Man. He shared an excerpt from the book, which said:
“As soon as Balu shouted, ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ I lunged for Sridevi. Completely in character, she pushed me away so hard I landed in a heap on the floor several feet away. There was a roar of laughter from Kamal and Romu and with a hurried ‘Cut’ Balu came running towards me. He looked at me, sitting there looking stupefied, and said with a straight face, ‘What is this? The mighty villain has fallen!
“I quickly recovered my equilibrium and was back on my feet. The second take went off smoothly and we wrapped up the scene quickly, thanks to Sridevi. Without saying it in so many words, she made me realize just how important it was to enact a r*pe scene without hurting the dignity of my female co-star. Every actress resents and detests a strange man touching her. I don’t remember her exact words, but the gist of what Sridevi told me that day was that while projecting a certain emotion, I had to be careful not to make the object of my lust feel uncomfortable with my unwelcome attention. I had to ensure that no matter what, I was never out of line.
"That was the biggest lesson I learnt on the sets of Sadma, and one which I have diligently practised all through my career. In later years, in an interesting turn of events, given that I would make their lives hell onscreen, several heroines, from Rekha-ji, Anita Raj to Kimi Katkar, Dimple Kapadia, Manisha Koirala, Raveena Tandon, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor and Mahima Chaudhry often pushed their producers to sign me because I never inconvenienced them in scenes that demanded physical proximity.”
Gulshan will next be seen in the film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.
