    It was 5th April 2005. India were playing their 2nd ODI against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dr Y. S. Rajasekhra Reddy ACA – VDCA  Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The Men in Blue were batting first and the first wicket had just fallen, it was Sachin Tendulkar who had to walk with just 2 runs in his pocket. 
    Opening batter Virendra Sehwag was waiting for his new partner to take the innings forward. A young Mahendra Singh Dhoni with nothing but four matches worth of experience and a unique hairstyle emerges out of the dugout. 

    Having delivered unimpressive performances in his previous 4 matches, not a lot of expected out of the young Mahi at the time. The restless Indian fans were beginning to raise their eyebrows at the Jharkhand player who was as far away from orthodox batting as anybody could be. 
    He was sent at the number three spot by the skipper Saurabh Ganguly against a formidable opponent like Pakistan. Everyone was surprised or rather shocked by Ganguly’s daring decision.  
    But then destiny had something different in store for Dhoni (and as it turns out the future of Indian cricket altogether). 
    In an interview, Ganguly had expressed how he thought about giving Dhoni a challenge to adapt to the intense pressure that he was feeling for representing Team India. Before the second ODI against Pakistan, Mahi used to play at the 7th spot and didn’t get enough time to showcase his brilliance with the bat.  
    So, Ganguly decided to send him at the number three spot - where he used to bat, usually.  
    When he broke the news to Dhoni, his first reaction was to worry about Ganguly’s batting position. “What about you?” he asked almost instantly, to which Ganguly had calmly replied that he would bat at the number four spot.

    Dada’s gamble not only paid off but a new chapter in the history of Indian cricket was written on that day.  
    A new star was born in the galaxy of cricket and it was going to shine bright. Dhoni matched Sehwag’s devastation shot for shot and Pakistan had no clue as to what field to set. He went past 50 in no time and got to his maiden century in a hurry too. 
    The crowd errupted; the dressing room was on their feet applauding Dhoni. Even the opposing Pakistani side recognized the extraordinary talent and showed respect to Mahi.  

    Just two runs shy of 150, Dhoni departed after Shoaib Malik caught him out off a Mohammad Hafeez delivery in the 42nd over. His 123 ball knock contained 15 Fours and 4 Sixes. India amassed 356/9 in 50 overs and finally, won the game by 58 runs.

    That was the beginning of MS Dhoni, who later ruled the world of cricket as the most successful captain of Team India that won the first T20I World Cup, India’s first 50 overs ODI World Cup since 1983 and became led the squad to the number one spot in Test cricket for the first time. 
    He was and continues to be hailed as the most innovative and effective wicket-keeper of all time. 

    Known for his ability to stay calm even under the most challenging situations, it was Dhoni who is actually considered the captain who transformed Team India into one of the most lethal teams in the world by encouraging fast bowlers and grooming batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
    Cricket will continue to be played in India. But, only time will tell if we will ever see another star like Mahi emerge in the sky of world cricket.

    Sports fans love to compare players from different generations. 
    Rather than admiring the greatness of all the top players while we can, for some reason, fans always enjoy pitting one great player against the other.
    The same holds true for cricket as well. 
    Earlier, the debate used to be between Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar and now, the pendulum has shifted to Virat Kohli.

    Who is a better batter among Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli? Although their international careers overlapped, both the players belonged to different generations, which makes it an extremely difficult question to answer.

    In a career spanning nearly a quarter of a century, Tendulkar shattered all kinds of batting records and entered the record books. For many, he is the greatest player to have played the game.

    His achievements are enough to make anyone feel small in front of him but not Kohli. The former India skipper is one of the best players of the modern generation and his stellar records explain why people love comparing him to the player who is regarded as the ‘God Of Cricket’.

    No other batter has dominated the world of cricket like Kohli in the last decade. What sets him apart from his counterparts is that he has scored runs all over the globe, across all three formats of the game.

    If there is one player who is expected to overhaul or get anywhere near Tendulkar’s record, it’s Kohli, which makes him an automatic choice for the comparison.

    During an interview with Australian journalist Graham Bensinger, on his YouTube channel, the world’s leading-run scorer was posed the same age-old question – Who is a better cricketer, Sachin or Virat?

    The ‘Master Blaster’ gave a simple one-line answer which clearly expressed what he thought about this whole comparison thing.

    He replied: “How about having both of us in one team?”.
    Both the players have an enviable record. But there are several reasons why we shouldn’t compare them. First and foremost, while Tendulkar has retired, Kohli is still playing.

    Secondly, they both played in different eras with different sets of rules and regulations and faced different bowling attacks.

    Us fans should at least wait for Kohli’s career to end and only then we can have a clear idea of where he stands against the world’s most prolific run-scorer.

    Badhaai Do ended up surprising everyone in terms of its box office success as well as audience reception, courtesy the clever writing and heartwarming storytelling. More and more people are thronging to the theatres, and applauding the stars as well as the makers.

    Amongst all of this, an incident happened in a Delhi theatre that has gone viral. While it started off with the unfortunate premise of a section of the crowd being homophobic, it ended in a way that is worthy enough to be in a movie scene.

    A gay couple went to watch the movie, and a group of about 10 friends (guys and girls) who were sitting ahead of them, were constantly indulging in inappropriate commentary during the same-*** couple scenes. There was another man sitting in the front row, who was passing outright homophobic and perverted comments during Sumi and Rimjhim's scenes - such as 'Oye hoye maja aa gaya!' and 'Ek kiss ho jaaye!', unabashaedly.

    While the gay couple in question was upset, they did not react as they didn't want to 'create a scene'. However, during Rajkummar's coming out monologue, one of them got emotional, was moved to tears, and started clapping and hooting. On this, the man from the front row said: 'Ye pakka gay hoga!'

    That was it for them. One of them stood on his sit and yelled: 'Haan bro gay hu! Apne bande ke sath aya hu. 4 saal se relationship me hu. Dono ke ghar pe bhi pata hai. Bol, koi dikkat?'

    Everyone heard them and the whole theatre fell silent. And after a few seconds, everyone unanimously burst into applause. The whole theatre was cheering and hooting for them.

    When we think of movie stars, what we usually think about is all the glamour, fame, money and the kind of grandeur that they live in. We get starstruck by their lifestyle, the kind of love they receive and how no matter where they go, they turn heads.  
    However, what we often miss seeing in this fantasy scenario in our head is, how apart from all the good things, celebrities are also preceded with the bad. Controversies, being one of them.

    Whether it is a personal lifestyle choice or something they’ve shared an opinion on, everything is scrutinized in the public eye. And what is worse is, facing public scrutiny, even when they haven’t done anything at all.  

    Case in point - Shah Rukh Khan, who is recently making the rounds for having complaints filed against him for the death of a man during one of his movies’ promotions. 
    The year was 2017, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was boarding a train as part of a promotional event for his then-upcoming film ‘Raees’ when the crowd went out of control at the sight of Bollywood’s baadshah.

    Fans got out of control and to prevent a stampede, the police initiated a lathi charge. It was at that time during the commotion that a man reportedly ended up losing his life. 

    The relatives of the deceased man had subsequently filed several complaints against the actor himself, in the lower court of Vadodara.
    A petition, subsequent to this, was filed in Gujarat High Court to squander complaints against the actor. The plea further stated that no offence was made by the actor and the deceased was a heart patient and passed away due to other reasons.

    According to TOI, the courts had asked the complainants if they agree to the accusations as Shah Rukh Khan will be made to apologize in such a scenario. Whether or not it's true, or if SRK will actually apologize for the unfortunate passing of a man during the promotions, is still unknown. 
    But what is known, is that it is high time to stop dragging celebrities in matters, simply because one can.  
    Yes, the movie starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, yes he was the very attraction at the promotional event where people went crazy to see him, but at no point did SRK instigate a frenzied reaction or a lathi charge that would lead to his fans losing their lives.

    Bollywood star Ranveer Singh made his acting debut opposite Anushka Sharma in the 2010 hit Band Baaja Baaraat. Later, in 2011, they appeared together in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and fans loved their onscreen chemistry in both films.
    Back then, they were rumoured to be dating each other and even appeared together on Karan Johar's popular chat show Koffee With Karan.

    Ranveer and Anushka were at their candid best in the episode and some of their statements courted controversies too. 

    The Gully Boy star, in a jest, made a remark on the actress which was deemed as 'sexist' and 'inappropriate' on social media. A small clip from the Koffee With Karan had gone viral in which the actor commented on Anushka's 'a**'. 
    In a throwback video from 2011, Ranveer and Anushka can be seen sitting next to each other and are chatting with KJo in the third season of his chat show. 
    In the clip, the actor looked at Anushka and said, "Hey, you want your a** pinched? I’m right here!". No wonder it didn't go down well with people.

    This statement left Anushka stunned, who looked at the show's host in shock. Johar, who too was surprised with the comment, laughed it out. 
    The actress, who looked visibly uncomfortable, retaliated by repeatedly hitting Ranveer on the arm and saying, "Don’t talk to me like that," making it clear that she didn't like the statement.

    After the episode was aired, Ranveer received a lot of flak for his inappropriate comment. Back then, social media users also criticised Karan for laughing along and not calling out the actor for what he said.

    For the unversed, Ranveer and Anushka reportedly dated each other for around two years after they came close to each other while shooting for their initial films. Post their split, the duo remained cordial and even worked together in Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do which was released in 2015. 
    Both of them have moved on in their lives and are happily married now. While Anushka exchanged wedding vows with cricketer Virat Kohli in 2017, Ranveer tied the knot with Deepika Padukone in 2018.

    On the career front, Ranveer was last seen in Kabir Khan's 83 which underperformed at the box office amid the ongoing pandemic, despite getting critical acclaim. He currently has projects like Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Cirkus, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani in his kitty.

    She welcomed her first child with her husband Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, baby girl Samisha, in 2021.  
    After a gap of around 4 years, she is now set to make her acting comeback with Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami's biopic titled Chakda Express.

    Ever since Charu Sharma came to the BCCI’s rescue and saved the IPL 2022 mega auction, stepping in as an emergency replacement, the Indian cricket fans have been head over heels in praising the veteran broadcaster.
    Sharma was approached by the BCCI at the last moment to replace British auctioneer Hugh Edemeades, who had suffered an unfortunate collapse on Day 1 of the two-day-event during the bidding of Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga due to low blood pressure.

    Despite being summoned at such short notice, the veteran commentator did a tremendous job and earned huge praise from the Indian audience and cricket aficionados from across the globe. 
    It was a memorable experience for the cricket expert and he was overjoyed with all the love and affection that he received in the last few days. Showing his gratitude, he even posted a ‘Thank You’ message on the micro-blogging site which once left everyone crushing over his voice.

    This was not Sharma’s first association with the world’s biggest T20 league. His relationship with IPL is as old as the tournament itself. During the inaugural edition of IPL 2008, he had joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as their Chief Executive Officer (CEO). 
    However, his first association with the cash-rich league wasn’t as memorable as he was unceremoniously sacked by then RCB owner Vijay Mallya due to the team's poor run of form.

    Reacting to his “brutal” sacking over a decade ago, Sharma said it was a “really dark period” for him and couldn’t recover from it for nearly a week. He was distraught because he had worked harder than ever before. 

     During an interview with Indian Express, Sharma said: “It was four days to a week of a really dark period. I worked harder than ever before in my life. Then to be treated the way I was; it was brutal. I was pretty upset and down for a while.

    At the time, the Bengaluru-based outfit had said that the decision to quit was his own but later Mallya himself confirmed that he had asked to leave because he was not happy with his constant interference in the player selection during the auction. 

    “I had my own list (of players) but the fact is Rahul Dravid and Charu Sharma had their own list and at the end of the day, I decided to take the back seat,” Mallya had told NDTV.

    “Charu Sharma always had some reason or the other for the poor performance of the team,” Mallya had said in the same interview while explaining why he removed Sharma from his post.
