India’s big experiment of opening the innings with Rishabh Pant ended in misery. Batting for the first time since his Under-19 days, the wicketkeeper-batter threw away his wicket playing a rash shot in the second ODI against the West Indies.
With KL Rahul returning to the Playing XI, Ishant Kishan was dropped and the team management decided to promote Pant at the top of the order.

After India lost the skipper Rohit Sharma early, the left-handed batter gave himself some time and played with great caution. After he negated the opening powerplay in a rather uncharacteristic manner, people started hoping he would make the most of the opportunity and score big.

But in the 12th over of the innings, Pant offered the visitors his wicket on a platter as he tried to pull a delivery which was way outside off stump and was further angling away.

His poor shot selection once again led to his downfall and his dismissal left Team India in a spot of bother as the hosts were reduced to 39/2 in the 12th over of the innings.

When Pant walked into bat, there were mixed reactions on the social networking sites. There were fans who were excited with the idea of him batting with the fielding restrictions in play. They hoped that the southpaw would make the most of the powerplay regulations much like Virender Sehwag but they soon realised that their high hopes were a bit unrealistic.

The opinions on social media are as fragile as it can get. It doesn’t take long to change. After Pant got out, there was more criticism than praise.

The supporters started slamming the team’s logic as to why they did not open the innings with Rahul who has done this job for the Indian team in the past. After all, he was the one who batted at the top of the order in the ODI series in South Africa, just a few weeks back. So, what changed.

No matter how skillful a player is, breaking into the Indian team is not an easy task, mainly because there is no dearth of talent in the country. After all, we are the second most populous country in the world, with a population of over 1.3 billion.
This massive population means that we have a huge talent pool and unless you are really talented there’s no chance you can make it to the Indian squad.

We Indians might not value the players that we have but people on the outside know how difficult it is to play cricket for the Indian team.

Reflecting on his special relationship with India, South African legend AB de Villiers said that it was his privilege to play cricket in the cricket-mad nation for the last 15 years. The RCB legend said that he would have loved growing up in India and experiencing their culture and tradition from close quarters.
    View this post on Instagram
One of the greatest players of the modern generation, ABD ruled world cricket for close to a decade-and-a-half. With his unique batting style, he transformed the game of cricket. His brilliance on the field earned him the nickname of ‘Mr 360’, owing to his ability to play shots all around the park.
Despite having achieved all this, the former Proteas skipper wasn’t sure if he would have been able to play for the Indian team if was born here.

"I have had the privilege of experiencing IPL Cricket, the Indian crowd, and the Indian way of doing things for the last 15 years. Obviously growing up in India would have been interesting. Maybe I would have never played for India, who knows. It is tough to make it to the Indian team; you have to be a special player,” de Villiers said on the RCB podcast .
Now, we know he was being humble. No team in the world would’ve been too good for him. He was a generational talent and any team would have loved to have him in their squad.
    View this post on Instagram
But you get the gist of his comment. It’s a shame that people on the outside give our cricketers more respect than us.
It’s a reminder why we need to value our cricketers more and give them the kind of respect which they deserve.

Back in 2005, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black starring Rani Mukerji & Amitabh Bachchan had released, it received rave reviews, was a box office success and won several awards including three National Film Awards in Best Feature Film In Hindi, Best Director and Best Costume Design.
However, not everyone was happy with the film and that included one of its harshest critics, Aamir Khan.
Back in those days, Aamir used to be an active blog writer. He took to his blog and not only criticised the film calling it “extremely manipulative” but also slammed the performances in the film calling them “over the top”. This included Amitabh Bachchan’s performance as well for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor.
    © Applause Entertainment
He wrote, “My big exception towards Black is the fact that a child with severe difficulties is shown being ill-treated instead of being treated with love, care and understanding. I simply cannot come to terms with that no matter what the writer and director say in defence.”

Aamir, who at that time was busy with Taare Zameen Par, further wrote, “I thought I was watching a rip off of Taming Of The Shrew! I take great exception to this kind of behaviour towards children being glorified and propagated through a popular mass medium as the way to deal with children with or without difficulties. I, without any hesitation, strongly condemn this kind of cinema no matter who is involved with the film, and that includes me if I ever have in the past, present or future made such an error of judgement.”
Later, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, when Aamir was further asked about his issue with Black, he replied, “I didn't like the film. I found it very insensitive, it sends out very wrong signals. It was extremely manipulative. I could see the effort in the manipulation, and the art of the director is in not letting you see the manipulation.”
    © BCCL
He continued, “The sensibility wasn't right for me, I couldn't make out if they were living in a house or a museum or a library or a church. The performances were over the top. Most importantly, it was about a child who had these problems, an alcoholic person comes and says you have to leave her alone with me for forty days, and he slaps her around. I don't know of any parent who'd agree to that. Black reminded me of The Taming Of The Shrew, and I found that very disturbing. It was a film about 'I can teach a bear how to dance’.”

Well, Amitabh Bachchan didn’t take Aamir’s criticism of Black lightly and hit back at him the very next day in an interview with Mid-Day. He said, “If Aamir is unhappy with this, let him demonstrate otherwise. I would be keen and anxious to educate myself on any prospective change that he might introduce to cinema.”
He went on to slam Aamir and criticised his films like Lagaan & Fanaa for doing the same thing that he accused Black of, “With due respect, all the films that he features in and that I have had the great pleasure in watching, have all adhered to the very qualities that he dislikes in Black. From using the distinct handicap, or to be politically correct, challenged condition, of a crippled human in his cricket team in Lagaan, to the 'sensitivities' of a blind girl in Fanaa.”
    © Aamir Khan Productions
Big B further revealed that Aamir had also talked about his issues with Black to him, “He had issues, he said. He told me the film did not work for him because he disagreed with the voice-over of Rani as soon as the film started. The argument being, if the girl is deaf, dumb and blind how can she have a voice-over! Till date, I have not been able to understand that remark. Maybe you can.”

And finally, reacting to Aamir calling the performances in the film “over the top”, Bachchan took a potshot at him saying, “I cannot comment whether my performance was towering or not, but Aamir may be right on the other, maybe the performances did go 'over the top' of his head!”
The two later mended their equation and finally, worked together for the first time in the 2018 dud Thugs of Hindostan.

The movie took a record opening but eventually, failed to make a mark at the box office and flopped.

Shah Rukh Khan has time and again proved his love for the country but he has been subjected to communal hate several times. A few days ago, he was trolled for spitting on Lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains. In the video, he is seen saying a prayer, lifting his mask and blowing sideways- a gesture typically adapted by Muslims while praying for the departed. He read a ‘dua’ as a matter of respect but he was bashed heavily.
We will tell you why people shouldn’t bash him because of his religion and there is a reason he has managed to win the tag of King Khan. It’s his generosity and positive thoughts that set him apart from all the other celebs.
    View this post on Instagram
In a 1997 interview with the actor, Khan addressed issues on the freedom of speech, freedom of the press and anti-national elements; issues that remain relevant even today. In the video, Farida Jalal is seen asking SRK about the political scenario of this era. He added that his father Mir Taj Mohammed Khan was one of the youngest freedom fighters of the country.
    Here’s a snippet of the 1997 interview:

He also said that his father would tell him not to take his freedom for granted. He said, “Now, I understand, after having grown up, that this freedom he was talking about was in terms of poverty, maybe; freedom from misery."
Khan also mentioned how patriotism is instilled in schools, saying that writing essays like 'My Country, India' but it needs to be done in a way that we don’t own it. He added that "anti-nationals" are people who "don't think they are part of India," and they are "somehow destroying" the country.
    View this post on Instagram
He said, “Although I'm not directly affiliated to politics or any kind of party," adding, "whenever I read, it does bring this little sadness that it takes away from what my father told me: 'Keep this country free, the way I gave it to you.'.”
We completely agree with him and believe he shouldn’t be subjected to communal hate.
Back in 2015, his statements about religious intolerance in the country being the worst crime created a stir.
Now, he chooses to remain silent but that doesn’t give people the right to rob him of his dignity. He has stood for the country and has helped flood victims, women who are the victims of acid attacks and many other unprivileged human beings.

For the unversed, Amrita was a popular name in the 1980s. She made her acting debut opposite Sunny Deol with the 1983 hit Betaab and went on to be a part of various successful films including Sunny (1984), Saaheb (1985), Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986) among others. In the early 1990s, she took a break from films and made her comeback in 2002 with Bobby Deol-starrer 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. Since then, she has been occasionally playing supporting roles in movies like Kalyug, Aurangzeb, 2 States, Badla among others.

When I saw the movie 127 hours, where a man was stuck in between boulders during a hike, it gave me sleepless nights for days.
Just imagining being in a situation where you don’t know if someone would come to rescue you or would even be able to, was all I needed to have a mini panic attack. But then again, it was ‘just a movie’ I thought and moved along.
However, years later today I came across a real-life incident that wasn’t much different from the movie itself.

Indian Army Team has rescued the stranded trekker, Mr Babu to safety

Babu, a 24-year-old man, was part of a group expedition where he and three of his friends were hiking up to Kurumbachi hills in Cheradu, Palakkad.
When they were trekking down after the hike, Babu, having been exhausted and a little distracted, slipped on the rocks, and ended up getting trapped in a cavity in the hill.
Attempts by his friends to rescue him were all in vain and then the bunch of worried friends rushed to the authorities to get some help. Rescue teams arrived as soon as they could, while all this time Babu sat there in the crevice, holding onto his dear life as he did the edges of the cavity.

Pat Cummins finally opened up on Justin Langer's resignation from the post of the head coach of the Australian team, saying the team was looking for a more calm and collaborative approach.
The Australia captain issued a lengthy statement hours before he addressed the media in Sydney over the whole saga that has taken the cricket fraternity by storm.
"Justin has acknowledged that his style was intense. And it was. He has apologised to players and staff for his intensity. I think the apology was unnecessary. Because the players were OK with JL's intensity. Justin's intensity drove a better team culture and higher team standards. To be better players for Australia, from this solid foundation, we need a new style of coaching and skill set. This was the feedback the players gave to Cricket Australia. And it's the feedback I understand support staff also gave," Cummins said in his statement.
    © Reuters
This whole saga of Langer against the current Australian team became such a big talking point in the cricketing world because of the success Langer managed to bring to Australian cricket after taking over the job soon after the infamous ball-tampering saga.

Under Langer's leadership, Australia won the T20 World Cup and retained the Ashes with an emphatic 4-0 win in the five-match series.
Cricket fans connected the dots and managed to find similarities between this episode and the one that shook the cricket fraternity back in 2017 when India captain Virat Kohli and the team expressed their reservations with the coaching style of one of the greats of the game -- Anil Kumble.
    © Reuters
Fans said that while Kohli was bashed for speaking against the approach of a stalwart of Indian cricket, Cummins is lucky he is not Virat Kohli or else he too would have been facing a lot of heat for what all that has transpired in the last few weeks in Australian cricket.

While we all are appreciating Pat Cummins here and rightly so , remember how we all criticised Virat Kohli for the very same thing , it's time we accept the writing on the wall.

    — Sai Vaibhav (@SaiVaib41131476) February 9, 2022How is langer Cummins saga different from kumble kohli saga. I still remember kohli was bashed so much by media and fans but don't see that happening with Cummins.
    — (@theakshay18) February 9, 2022Pat Cummins is fortunate enough that he isn’t Virat Kohli, what he went through in ‘17 was horrible; everything was same except media absolutely crucified him for the entire saga and till date the bloke hasn’t uttered a single word on the incident,
    — AK (@rwamit) February 9, 2022Back in 2017, Kumble after stepping down as the head coach had said that the Indian cricket board had told him that captain Kohli had reservations with his style of coaching, adding that the partnership between him and Kohli was untenable.
"BCCI said that the captain had reservations with my ‘style’ and about my continuing as the head coach. I was surprised since I have always respected the role boundaries between captain and coach. Though the BCCI attempted to resolve the misunderstandings between the captain and me, it was apparent that the partnership was untenable, and I, therefore, believe it is best for me to move on,” Kumble had said.

Cummins, on Wednesday, also addressed the criticism he faced from former Australia cricketers by saying that just like they are standing up for their teammate (Langer), he is standing up for his teammates.
"To all past players, I want to say this: Just as you have always stuck up for your mates, I'm sticking up for mine."
To be fair to Kohli, he too stood up for his teammates and expressed his thoughts to the board on what he and the team felt should be the path going forward. However, Kohli was labelled as the devil in the whole story while the same fans are appreciating Cummins for his statement.
