As we are nearing the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), teams have started to gear up for the upcoming mega auction which will decide what combinations they will get in a bid to fight for the title. 

With the addition of two new franchises -- Lucknow and Ahmedabad -- for the upcoming season, the fight for the trophy has become even more intense.

The Ahmedabad franchise, on Wednesday, took to Twitter to unveil their official name -- Gujarat Titans. Gujarat Titans along with Lucknow Super Giants will be making their debut in the IPL.  CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd) had bought the franchise last October.

Gujarat Titans had already announced Hardik Pandya as their skipper and they had also picked Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill as the draft picks ahead of the mega auction.

Soon after the franchise announced their official name, fans on social media came up with a flurry of jokes and took a jibe at the team for not being creative while coming up with the name.

The home stadium for Titans will be the largest cricket stadium in the world -- Narendra Modi Stadium. In a statement issued on Twitter, the franchise said the philosophy behind the name is to take on big challenges and fight against all odds.

Titans will have Rs Rs 52 crores to spend at the auction table to fill in the vacant 22 spots to form a team for their debut season. The team had appointed India's World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten as their mentor while former pacer Ashish Nehra was named as the head coach of the franchise.

The Ahmedabad-based franchise also roped in Surrey's head coach Vikram Solanki as its director of cricket for the upcoming edition of the IPL.

The IPL 2022 mega auction will be held on two days in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13 and the T20 league is expected to begin on March 27.
