FlashlightΒ Β© amir-shamsipur-unsplash
Remember we always had a flashlight in one of our drawers to use whenever there was a power cut? When was the last time you bought a flashlight for your home? Thatβs because most of us now use the in-built flashlight on smartphones to look for things when we are in the dark. Most phones now have a shortcut on the lock screen itself so that you can quickly fire up the flashlight to search for things in the dark.Β
CamcordersΒ Β© leonard-reese-unsplash
Weβve already mentioned the death of point-and-shoot cameras in the past but the other camera equipment many people had in their homes was a camcorder. These cameras were dedicated video capturing devices that were soon killed by the smartphone. Today, phones can record 4K videos at 60FPS which is a marvel considering what Camcorders could do back in the day.Β

When was the last time you used a scanner to scan documents to use as a digital file? My mother still has photo albums full of pictures of my childhood that she enjoys seeing from time to time. However, we no longer buy photo albums as we used to since we all have a Photo Gallery that has all our pictures captured via a smartphone. The only photo albums we interact with are the ones that are curated for us via machine learning that brings up our memories based on people, location and vacations.Β

Remember the diary that had all the numbers of your friends and family? Yeah well, we donβt have them anymore because we now store every phone number in a digital phonebook on our smartphones. We donβt even have to worry about losing our contacts anymore as most digital phonebooks now back up contacts on the cloud so that you can recover them anywhere and anytime you want.Β
Yellow-Pages/Phonebook Β© Wikipedia Commons
The same can be said about the Yellow-pages. We no longer need a big fat yellow directory to look up phone numbers of people by searching their names. With apps like Truecaller, you can now look up phone numbers of people you know without ever flipping a page.Β
