Don't we all absolutely love the fact that Bollywood movies are all larger than life and make us believe in things that probably might not be actually possible in real life?
Be it a character walking down the street and suddenly dancing in perfect choreography with a group of strangers or jumping from one train to another while they were still moving, Bollywood definitely succeeds in making our lives less dull all the time.

However, have you ever wondered what happens when people take cinema way too seriously and start implementing its formulas in real life? Tragedy happens!Β

In a shocking incident, a man from Delhi took inspiration from the 2015 Ajay Devgn starred Drishyam to stage an attack on himself in a bid to implicate his neighbor, whose mother he had already killed earlier.
    Β© Netflix
Amar Pal, a resident of Majnu ka Tilla in North Delhi, had been jailed in the murder case of neighbor Ombir's mother, whom he had allegedly killed in 2019 along with his friends after a dispute.

On May 29 this year,Β  Amar Pal and his friends had been released from jail on interim bail for 60 days, after which he tried to pressurize Ombir's family, who had been witnesses to the murder case. After failing to do so, Amar Pal along with his brother Guddu and cousin Anil planned a conspiracy to falsely implicate Ombir and his family of attacking him in a filmy manner which was somewhat similar to fashion to that of the Drishyam film.
Amar Pal even made his brother and cousin watch the movie in order to create the scene and witnesses that he had been shot by Ombir. According to the police, Amar Pal acted on the plan by starting to convince people that he was being threatened by Ombir’s family and that they had been seeking revenge.

The police said that he even arranged a country-made pistol and live cartridges with pellets in order to ensure that the attack while looking real does not end up killing him.

As per the plan, Anil would fire at Amar Pal and would later pass the blame onto Ombir and his family members for the attack, the police said.
They went on to execute the plan after which Amar Pal went to a friend's place in an injured state and falsely narrated how Ombir and his family were the assaulters. However, despite Amar Pal's family suggesting that Ombir was behind the attack, the police found certain discrepancies in their versions and on the basis of a tip-off, nabbed Anil, while also recovering Amar Pal's pistol.
Well, Amar Pal is currently undergoing treatment for the foolish injuries and will probably get a one-way ticket back to jail.

China has had a rather coloured history with human rights violationsΒ and Tibet is the biggest example of that. One thing that they did not account for was a man called Gyalwa Rinpoche, or as the world would come to know him as the 14th Dalai Lama.

    Β© Reuters
The Dalai Lama has had a rather contentious relationship with China for a number of reasons. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Chinese militaryΒ would have obliterated Tibet had it not been for India. In fact, the Chinese government has often described the Dalai Lama as a β€œDevil” & β€œA wolf In monk’s robes.”

    Β© AFP
Here are some factoids about China & The Dalai Lama’s contentious relationship & how India plays a role in it.

    1. China’s Travesty In Tibet Β© Reuters
China invaded Tibet in around 1950-1951, and established a militaristic colony in the region. Ibet is a resource rich country, and China being China, wanted their resources. Following this, the Chinese Army started treating the locals in the most inhumane way. Randomly arresting people off the streets, banning public gatherings arbitrarily - these became a very common day to day occurrence in Tibet. There were also several reports of military authorised rape and murders in Tibet. There are numerous reports about thousands of Tibetans being killed arbitrarily by the Chinese military.

    2. China Wiping Out An Entire Culture Β© AFP
China also interfered in the cultural practices of the people of Tibet. Firstly, they wanted the people of Tibet to learn China’s history as the β€œnational history.” They also wanted to impose Mandarin as the official language in the region, not taking into account that Tibet is made up of a number of tribes that have their own languages and customs. Even religious practices became an issue.

    3. China Interfering With Religious Practices Β© Reuters
Most of the people in Tibet follow a very specific kind of Buddhism. The Chinese government also started interfering with the religious practices of the Tibetan people. The Dalai Lama & The Panchen Lama the two supreme Lamas or scholars of Tibetan Buddhism are not just mere religious leaders. They hold a lot of political influence as well. This certainly did not sit well with the Chinese authorities, and so, they tried arresting The 14th Dalai Lama. Since their invasion many temples and monasteries have been destroyed by the Chinese Army

    4. The Dalai Lama Escaping To India Β© Reuters
In 1959, the 14th Dalai Lama, fled the Chinese authorities and went into exile in India. India also took in a lot of refugees from the region of Tibet. All this was happening in the middle of heavy bombing and artillery fire in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital.Β

    5. India Protecting The Dalai Lama Β© AFP
Once the Chinese authorities discovered that the Dalai Lama and his retinue had successfully crossed into India, they demanded that he be returned to China. At this point of time, India was recognising Tibet as an independent nation, but later on, over the years, we have come to recognise Tibet as a territory under the rule of China. The Government of India has allocated land to the exiled community to settle in India.

    6. China’s Dirty Trick Β© AFP
One of these practices that the people of Tibet follow, is selecting the Dalai Lama & The Panchen Lama. Traditionally, The Dalai Lama selects someone who the lamas of Tibet believe is the reincarnation of the first Panchen Lama, or the great scholar. Once the Dalai Lama dies, the Panchen Lama is tasked with finding the next Dalai Lama, and so the cycle continues.Β

    Β© Reuters
Chinese officials actually kidnapped a 6-year-old boy named Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, a 6 years old, merely days after he was recognised by the Tibetan people as the 11th Panchen Lama, and instead placed another boy, from the heartlands of China, as the Panchen Lama. He has never been seen by anyone, ever since.

    The bottom line…
The Dalai Lama is ageing, and people have already started discussing his successor. The Dalai Lama believes that there is a very good chance that he may be the last Dalai Lama ever. But because of how messy the situation is, and the fact that the elected Tibetan government, also called the Central Tibetan Administration, is based out of Dharamshala, India, there is a strong possibility that the next Dalai Lama, maybe born in India.

The internet is a powerful tool and anything that goes up there has a way of staying there. Even if you delete the origin, the ghost of its traces remain there for people to dig up anytime. Having a name and a place in the eyes of the world also means that your words have a more powerful impact on the general public than an average Joe.
Indian comedians and the controversies around them have been going on forever because a lot of β€˜jokes’ made by them have not gone down well with people and authorities in this country. The latest person to be called out and be cancelled is comedian-actor Vir Das. He tweeted a joke on gender pronouns and deleted it soon after a lot of backlash came his way.
    Β© Twitter
We are in the day and age where conversations around more than two genders are being highly encouraged and a lot of people are opening up to the idea of understanding genders and accepting each other with love. Keeping that issue in mind, his joke was taken in a bad taste and a lot of people tried explaining why it was hurtful for a non-binary person and was also transphobic in nature.

I struggle everyday bc my family is transphobic and don't use right pronouns for me, but yea it's a joke
β€” Khushveer (@khushveerss) July 5, 2021Vir Das is the perfect of example of no matter how woke of a comic you are, at the end of the day inevitably you will punch down to gender minorities when you run out of jokes to make.
β€” puru (@oopspuruagain) July 5, 2021Doesn't matter whichever way you say it, either way you're unfunny https://t.co/C4ZVnro4jk pic.twitter.com/5c2B6Rruf7
β€” Anandita. (@devilsblessingx) July 5, 2021Β Vir went on to delete the tweet and tried to neutralise the virtual atmosphere. However, while it was too late for people who were already offended, he offended more people who thought he couldn’t stand up to his own joke.
It wasn't misunderstood. You cannot make a joke about a minority community where you don't belong.period. get a sense of humour please.
β€” Sam wants to get to 300(CHECK PINNED/logged out) (@samthecursedkat) July 5, 2021When did it become fine to delete a joke cos a lot of people get upset. What happened to freedom of speech and tolerance. Are the wokes so insecure of their selves that they can’t take a joke? https://t.co/st7lphR1gz
β€” NWO (@tweetslikeobito) July 6, 2021notice how instead of accepting his mistake he’s comfortable enough to crib about people getting offended
β€” naisha (@naishhhhh) July 5, 2021Β Looks like humour needs to be revisited and should be done in better taste for most people.Β

For a film industry that’s been around since the 1930s, Bollywood still has a lot to learn when it comes to appropriately representing the characters being portrayed in our films. We’ve come a long way from the industry’s infancy, yet certain mistakes seem to be repeating in strange patterns. This is not to say that there aren’t any exceptions to the rule where a controversially cast actor actually turned up and essayed their character well. However, there are far too many instances of filmmakers picking star power over the nuance required for a character for their stories. Here are three casting mistakes Bollywood keeps repeating over and over again:Β
    1. Miscasting Mary KomΒ The obvious elephant in the room, we can’t deny that India does have a myriad of rich cultures and races that are distinct from each other, despite being a part of the same nation. However, no justification suffices when it comes to Priyanka Chopra’s portrayal of Manipuri boxing legend, Mary Kom. Instead of employing awkward prosthetics and makeup for Priyanka to look the part, the producers could have found better success if they had bothered to look at regional talents for the role.Β  Actress Lin Laishram, who played a supporting role in the movie, agrees with the sentiment. While lauding Priyanka for her attempt at the role, she insists that it could have been done by "anybody from the North East.” And we’ve to say that she’s got a point.Β

    2. Brown faced BollywoodΒ What’s up with this rampant obsession of slathering dark makeup on fair skinned Bollywood actors? We get that the Indian junta might be used to seeing the same, dependable faces in every movie, but isn’t brown facing them to play roles meant for darker skinned actors unfair? It makes people uncomfortable because these dark skinned characters usually belong to economically or socially underprivileged sections of society within the film. The various intersections of caste and class privileges have forced us to believe that to be dark skinned is to be underprivileged, and that narrative needs to change. Filmmakers should either get an actor who naturally matches the complexion of the character, or have Bollywood actors retain their original fair skin regardless of socio-economic class of the role. Hrithik Roshan in Super 30, Bhumi Pednekar in Bala, and even the already dusky Sayani Gupta was smeared with dark makeup to portray the role of a Dalit in Article 15. Maybe it’s time to change our gaze.Β

3.Β Gendered AssumptionsΒ Reducing people to stereotypes isn’t the best strategy when it comes to making a great film. Or is it? Bollywood has long enjoyed a fractious relationship with their portrayal of people from the LGBTQIA+ community. The audience has long lapped up unfunny gags in the form of sexist remarks as well as gendered slurs. Perhaps it’s time for a change. Maybe we don’t need more unfunny gay gags like the ones in Dostana or distasteful portrayal of the hijra community like the one found in the horror-comedy Laxmmi. A nuanced approach is definitely warranted.Β
    Β© Disney+Hotstar/IMDB
Most filmmakers justify their choices by saying that they choose to go forward with their actor of choice because of their bankability. Casting an A-lister can often be the difference between a movie being considered a hit or a flop. And for this industry, commercial success is its bottom line. However, here’s hoping that the new breed of films that are coming about make efforts to change this tasteless trend of filmmaking.

If you have seen Siddhant Chaturvedi's fashion game, one thing is for sure is that he is all about keeping things simple.Β
Apart from his spectacular dressing sense, Siddhant has often managed to catch our attention with his zany sneakers. Some of his best pairs include 'stamina' sneakers and then when he wore those rad monster shoes.Β
In fact, it would not be wrong to say that Siddhant singlehandedly curated the talk around wearing comfortable yet uber-cool sneakers. His go-to outfits always have a surprising element (mostly sneakers), and therefore, there are myriads of style notes one can take from him.
    Β© Viral Bhayani
    Β© Myntra
Siddhant is seen wearing Skechers Men Grey & Blue Colourblocked D'LITES Sneakers.Β

Now, if you observe these shoes, they don't look ordinary. The pair has a comfortable insole, lightweight shock absorbing supportive midsole. As for more details, the colour block palette makes it stand out. There's also a stitch design all over.Β
However, the outstanding element is the outsole. If you notice, it looks like it's made of massive tyres, but that's just how the pair's construction is.
    Β© Viral Bhayani
Practical and versatile, the sneakers are indeed a fantastic pair to own this season.Β

All we can say is Siddhant is legit a style icon, and we all have a thing or two to learn from the newbie in B-town.

Indians have a soft spot for cinema, which is why we let go of most slip-ups we see in movies.Β
However, sometimes, Bollywood logic goes a tad bit beyond the unforgivable and it’s hard to ignore the distorted facts and faults in Hindi movies.Β Β
    Β© Yash Raj Films
From Indian Army officers having a beard and shabby hair to people getting a transplant from their lovers who were alive two hours ago, there is so much wrong that’s been happening in our films.Β

Call it lack of research, creative liberty or negligence, even the most brilliant and detail-oriented directors of Bollywood have gotten some of the basic things wrong in their movies.Β
    Β© Yash Raj Films
We are not talking about how Bollywood wrongly portrays someone from different countries or cultures and stereotypes them, because let’s face it, that will take us all day.Β

Of course, that’s almost among the zillion things that our movies get wrong, but there are more basic details that are not too difficult to pay attention to while making a film.
    Β© Fox Star Studios
Here are some of the things that Hindi movies almost always get wrong and still get away with the inaccuracies every time:Β

    1. Faulty UniformsΒ  Β© Twitter/Sandeep Unnithan
How hard is it to hire someone who fits right into the uniform of a military or naval officer and gest all the tiny details right? Apparently, quite hard.Β

In movies like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Jab Tak Hain Jaan and Rustom, the uniform had major mistakes that the makers probably thought would go unnoticed.Β Β
    2. The Handcuff Theory Β© Karam Jay Productions
If there’s anything more dramatic than the hero chasing the villain and the cop arriving just when he is done beating the hell out of the bad guy, is the arrest scene where the police handcuff him.Β

But according to the IPC, the police aren’t allowed to handcuff prisoners unless in extreme cases, and that too with the magistrate's permission. It’s not as normal as Bollywood makes it seem.Β  Β  Β
    3. Courtroom Drama Β© Fox Star Studios
Courtrooms in movies are packed with the audience sitting in order, patiently listening to the monologues and heated arguments by the lawyers.Β

The scene is more chaotic in reality.Β
There are no applause, monologues and dramatic breakdowns of the culprit. Because no judge has got time for that kind of courtroom drama.Β Β
    4. Medical Miracles Β© Vinod Chopra Productions
Along with overly dramatic heart attacks and labour pains to miraculous resurrections, a lot goes wrong in a filmy OT once that red bulb turns on (which is also a hoax, there is no such bulb in real hospitals).Β

They can call it β€˜uparwale ka chamatkar’ or whatnot, but medical inaccuracies like brain transplants, living people donating organs and paralysis getting cured with a hug, is anything but sensible.Β
    5. Airport Scenes Β© Pooja Entertainment
How come these characters get to the boarding gate without a flight ticket or get stopped by the security multiple times?Β

Anyone who has been to an airport knows that you can’t go past the entry gate without a guest pass or a legit ticket. And still, you can’t go beyond the check-in point, definitely not to scream and sing to stop your partner.Β
For the people who get papped at the airport lobbies all the time, how can they still get this wrong?
