For a certain population of men, there exists an inability to recognize their bodily features in a realistic way. They find themselves fixating on certain parts of their body. Their minds would often be dominated by thoughts of inadequacy and a constant paranoia over not being able to perceive what they look like. This constant perceiving, imagining or reimagining of flaws within them takes a toll on their psyche.
It’s an unrelenting condition to live with as it creates a divorce between mind and body. These imagined or perceived flaws often stem from a warped relationship with twisted societal standards of beauty.

And as we spend an ever increasing amount of time on the internet on apps like Instagram and Zoom, we’re inadvertently contending with different versions of ourselves. The moulded and pruned versions of ourselves on Instagram as well as the dynamic and live versions of ourselves on Zoom.

Each platform gives us an opportunity to create a different version of ourselves, however instances of such discord can keep escalating till it burgeons into instances of body dysmorphia, unbeknownst to us.
Here are some societal standards that can trigger Body Dysmorphia in men.
SkinThe colour of our skin is probably one of our most identifiable features. But why does this vast organ that covers the expanse of our body become a source of insecurity for us? It can be from our society’s collective colonial drunkenness that only promotes and associates fairness with beauty. Acne scarring, blemishes and other forms of skin related issues can also cause an individual to devote significant amounts of time in attempts of ‘fixing’ it.

HairA significant population of men suffers from male pattern baldness. Over time the density as well as volume of our follicles decrease due to hormonal changes related to maturity. The significance of hair is closely tied to the desire of evergreen youth. And any kind of hair loss is seen as a loss of youth. Several bollywood celebs and other public figures have chosen to undergo hair transplantation procedures in a bid to preserve public perceptions of their youth.

NoseNot only do they help smell the world around us, our noses now also act as a source of insecurity. Thanks to social media and the many filters that come with it, there’s a limited idea of what the ‘ideal’ nose looks like. The public homogenization of our olfactory organs ignores the various indigenous shapes that exist from region to region.

GenitalsHistorically and culturally, a man’s genitals are considered to be their source of manhood. But how does a multi-purpose organ end up being the calling card for our masculinity? We’ve toxic patriarchal notions as well as a distorted sense of reality from pornography to thank for it. When insults are constantly hurled at the expense of their genitalia, it’s understandable why men get insecure by it.
    © iStock
Body TypeThroughout their lives men are conditioned to idealize a particular body type as the only acceptable form of appearance. Heralding from the need to look powerful, challenging and dominating, men get completely insecure about their bodies unless they look like they’ve dedicated every single moment of their lives at the gym. My personal belief is that fitness should be approached from the lens of keeping well, developing a harmony of mind and body and that any aesthetic results are simply a byproduct. Unless you’ve an interest in it professionally, obsessions with the inches of your bicep and other body parts can lead to a lifestyle of overcompensation.

Not everyone has body dysmorphia, not every act of checking-in on your appearance is a symptom for it either. Howeve, if these intrusive concerns and actions start impeding with your day to day life, and introduces distress in the form of depression and anxiety, then there’s a possibility that your relationship with your body has been negatively impacted. And in such instances professional help can do wonders. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is great for men with Body Dysmorphia as it can help you develop a healthier, more realistic relationship with your appearance while also empowering you to inculcate better behavioural patterns.

Sleep is one of the most important biological functions of our body along with eating, drinking and breathing. This state helps the body heal and recover from the various stresses that we put on it throughout the day. It’s recommended that everyone gets at least 8 hours of sleep, although not everyone requires the same amount of sleep to feel refreshed. This is mostly due to the individual’s genetic disposition.
However, as we grow old and accrue various lifestyle changes, they often come at the expense of quality sleep. When we’re young, the feeling of invulnerability can lead us to disregard the importance of a good night’s rest. With age these habits catch up and can wreak havoc on one’s health and insomnia can also be triggered as a result.
Here are 5 such Lifestyle Habits that are hampering the quality of your sleep.
OverworkingWhen the pandemic struck, a significant portion of the population was excited to embrace the concept of working from home. But as time has worn on, the already permeable professional boundaries have become further blurred. No meeting is too early or too late for anyone as everyone is expected to be at home, and thus be at their work’s disposal. Quality sleep being one of the biggest victims of this toxic hustle culture.
    © iStock
Lack Of Physical ActivityA distinct lack of physical activity harms the quality of sleep experienced. The recommended level of physical exertion varies depending on your age. However, having some time to work up a sweat during the day helps improve the quality of your sleep. Do note that working out right before bed might be counterproductive as the stimulation received disrupts immediate sleep.
    © iStock
ScreentimeSorry to break it to you, but your screen time is greatly hampering your sleep. The blue light emitted by our screens affects the melatonin production in our brains. Being on the phone during bed keeps our brain active and stimulated, keeping quality sleep at bay.
    © iStock
Poor DietWhat we eat and when we eat also affects our sleep. Foods rich in sugars and caffeine keeps us up for longer as they provide the body with the kick to keep moving. Having a diet without adequate fibre also affects the quality of our sleep. It is also advised not to eat heavy before bed time. A poor night’s rest can also influence the quality of decision making the next day, making one more susceptible to poor dietary choices.
    © iStock
Mental StressorsChances are if you suffer from depression, anxiety or other mental ailments, your brain is working overtime in order to facilitate these thoughts. Over time these thoughts swarm and eat into the quality of your sleep. By keeping you up at odd hours, your body isn’t able to rest properly to heal and nourish itself. Which is why it is essential to talk to a professional about your mental health stressors. Consistently high levels of stress in the brain can cause dire consequences in the future.

By limiting the impact of these active stressors in your day to day life, you can ensure a better quality of sleep, and thus a better quality of life for yourself. Make your sleep a priority.

Good news for all fans of the superhero franchise!

Warner Bros and DC dropped the new trailer for Suicide Squad 2 and all hell has been let loose.
    © Warner Bros
The almost two-and-a-half-minute-long trailer talks about Intelligence Officer Amanda Waller's (Viola Davis) new plan for recruiting the DC universe's bizarre team-up of supervillain turned anti-heroes for yet another deadly mission.
Directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), the movie's trailer has apparently left fans divided on social media. So, let's talk about a few things in it:
    1. The Movie Has A Weasel and Shark © Warner Bros
James Gunn had a Racoon and Groot in Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy series, and considering how well it worked out with the franchise, he has now brought the same formula to DC.

    © Warner Bros
Suicide Squad has Kingshark (Sylvester Stallone), a humanoid creature and a character who is considered to be the arch-nemesis of Superboy, as well as Weasel, a former university professor who transformed into a humanoid-weasel-like creature.

Well, while Kingshark looks more menacing, the truth is that Mr. Weasel himself killed 27 children on his own.
    2. The Absence Of Joker, Deadshot, And Batman Has Fans Angered © Warner Bros
The first Suicide Squad film came around a time when the DC movie universe was still finding its way. It had massive star power with Jared Leto starring as the Joker, Ben Affleck being Batman, and Will Smith as Deadshot.

    © Warner Bros
    © Warner Bros
Now, while the film sees the return of Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis as Col. Rick Flag and  Amanda Waller, none of the big stars are going to reprise their roles in the sequel, a fact that has clearly angered fans.

For real how could you drop the ball on WILL FREAKING SMITH I really want to know the logic behind that
    — Jeffery Warfield jr. associate producer of ZSJL (@JefferyWarfiel2) June 23, 2021"It's a terrible idea because a Suicide Squad movie can't exist without Batman, Flash, Joker or Will Smith", every day - you supposed DC Fans expose your illiteracy on these DC properties.
    — VenoM (@_thisisvenom) June 24, 2021Not even a sequel, It’s the shittiest attempt at a reboot.
    — Kayniac #AOTD Out Now (@KayneIvor) June 23, 20213. Harley Quinn Looks Crazy As Ever © Warner Bros
Well, one thing that all fans will agree about it is that we loved Margot Robbie as the crazy barbed-wire bat flinging Harley Quinn in the first movie, and we still love her now.

From what we saw in the trailer, the Clown Princess of Crime was back to her usual self even if she sports a new hairstyle (yeah, apparently, supervillains too need makeovers).
With her lunatic lover, Joker, not returning for the film, we know she has been tasked with creating chaos everywhere she goes.

    4. Idris Elba and John Cena Can Make Some Noise © Warner Bros
One of the really positive aspects about the trailer is that it shows the addition of newer and exciting characters like WWE wrestler John Cena's Peacemaker, Courtney's Captain Boomerang, Daniela Melchior's Ratcatcher 2, Michael Rooker's Savant, and others.

However, one character that clearly stands out is Idris Elba's Bloodsport, who, as mentioned in the trailer, is responsible for putting Superman in the ICU.
    © Warner Bros
Wow! Wouldn't we like to know more about that?

Well, you can find out when the movie finally releases in theatres and streaming sites on August 6, 2021.

Losing the World Test Championship final to Kane Williamson and the New Zealand roster, Virat Kohli had spoken about bringing a significant overhaul within the Indian cricket team and it looks like the speculations of who stays and who leaves have already begun.
According to a recent report by the Times of India, Indian skipper Virat Kohli may be moving up by one spot to start batting at the number three position while giving up the middle order space to a batsman who may be a new inclusion with the regular Playing XI roster.
    View this post on Instagram
Before the five-Test series between India and England which will begin in August, the report speculates that the new batsman would be either KL Rahul or Hanuma Vihari.
This would, by default mean, that the WTC final was the end of the line for the Indian Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara, who was the team constant at one-down for a long period of time and in fact did a phenomenal job at withstanding early attacks with a new ball, and gaining control of the pace of the game for the Men in Blue.
    View this post on Instagram
Having said that, Pujara, who averages 46.1 at a strike rate of 44.6 in red-ball cricket, struck his last century in the longest format of the game over two and a half years ago back in Australia in January 2019.
It is also suggested that upon the ineffectiveness shown by the Indian spinners during the WTC final, changes will be made to accommodate pacers like Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur in the mix.
    View this post on Instagram
"We will continue to reassess and continue to have conversations around what are the things required to strengthen our side and not follow or fall prey to certain patterns," Kohli said at the virtual press conference after the WTC final, which India lost by eight wickets.
"We will not wait for a year or so and have to plan ahead. If you see our white-ball team now, we have great depth and guys are ready and confident. The same thing needs to be done with Test cricket,” he added.

"You have to reassess and replan and understand what dynamics work for the team and how we can be fearless. Bring in (the) right people who have (the) right mindset to perform," said the Indian skipper.

Whenever a person of Indian origin gets felicitated and honoured in a foreign country for their excellence, we Indians cannot help but be proud, and rightfully so. British resident Rajinder Singh became the latest person of Indian origin to make us proud, internationally.

    © AFP
Earlier this week, Singh was awarded one of the highest titles that a civilian in the United Kingdom can be bestowed with. He was awarded the MBE, or, the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for his services to health and fitness. The ceremony was organised by Prince Charles.

    © AFP
Rajinder Singh moved to London in the 1970s and has spent his life as a driver at the Heathrow Airport up until his retirement.

During the lockdown in Britain, Singh started making videos of him exercising, and teaching people, how to skip, in order to stay fit. Speaking to the BBC, he said that he was concerned that his fellow people, especially those who would gather at the local Gurudwara, would start feeling isolated and may lose morale.
    © Rajinder Singh
He thought that getting them to engage in any physical activity, in this case, skipping, would be a great distraction for them. Also, the exercise would benefit them greatly. Thus, he started making fun, instructional videos on skipping, and posted them online, on their local community pages.

Soon enough, these videos were picked up by others, and it went Viral. So much so, that using just these videos, Singh was able to raise about 14,000 Pounds for United Kingdom’s NHS or National Health Service.

Singh says that his father, who was a soldier in the Indian Army, taught him to skip, and made him pick this up as a habit.

    © Rajinder Singh
While felicitating him, the Prince of Wales, too showed a rather vigorous enthusiasm for skipping and exercising in general, and said that he would love to have some lessons, said Singh.

For later this year, Rajinder Singh is all set to take part in the London Marathon for Mencap. The Mencap, or The Royal Mencap Society is a charity that works with people with learning disabilities.

On Friday, the legendary wrestler, two-time Olympic medallist and murder accused (not important) Sushil Kumar was not only seen belittling the puny coronavirus pandemic by not wearing a mask, but he also allowed the brave, talented, and extremely professional Delhi Police personnel a fan moment of their lifetimes by striking a pose with the team for a grand photo-session.
Dressed in a red shirt, tracks, and slippers, India’s most loved athlete at the moment, Kumar was all smiles as he was being transferred from Mandoli jail to Tihar jail but looked in no rush as he stuck around for a few timeless pictures with the “men of law”.
Its look like Delhipolice themself droping him off at airport for olypmics #SushilKumar pic.twitter.com/DqkkE7b2Es
    — Kuch bhi ho sakta hai (@mbhargav) June 25, 2021
If you’re thinking that it was highly unprofessional and completely inappropriate for the police to proudly stand next to someone who was accused of beating a person to death, while reports of him kidnapping and holding hostages also came in, you’re most definitely wrong.
The cops say that this was somewhat of a “routine” drill! They surely form a hurdle standing next to every potential criminal, while smiling from ear to ear for the camera before pushing the accused into one of the biggest jails of the world.
Policemen were seen posing with murder accused Sushil Kumar outside the Tihar Jail, Delhi.@AnvitSrivastava with details.

To focus on the fact that it was the same Delhi Police that was tricked and humiliated by an absconding Sushil Kumar for over two weeks since the murder of Sagar Rana is to talk about some fictional history which never took place… We don’t talk about that.
Based on how fond of the accused criminal the cops seem to be, it was almost a surprise when the news came a few weeks back about Kumar demanding protein shakes inside the prison and the police actually declining his request.
Chatrasal stadium's parking became the ring of real fight of wrestlers and criminals on May 4 night. Olympian wrestler #SushilKumar can be seen in white TShirt & hitting with a rod a person lying on the ground. In this assault a wrestler was killed and later Sushil got arrested. pic.twitter.com/DEY6jJF6ND
    — alok singh (@AlokReporter) May 27, 2021
The kind of camaraderie that the two sides are showing in the pictures exceeds all emotions, aims, and objectives, and the thought of Kumar not being able to follow his “wrestler’s diet” simply because he was caught on a video, flexing after reducing a person to a pulp with a stick, just sounds too dramatic and unsettling for us weak souls.
Nonetheless, a Delhi Court extended Kumar’s judicial custody for the wrestler till July 9th, 2021 and he will spend these days in Tihar. Hope he doesn’t get too uncomfortable in there. He’s a superstar, after all.

Minister Of Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad & Dr Shashi Tharoor were locked out of their Twitter accounts this week for a bizarre number of reasons.

    © BCCL
For those who have been unaware of the situation, the Indian Ministry of Information & Technology had drafted a couple of regulations, which all digital media and social media platforms have to abide by. Dr Tharoor was the chairperson of a parliamentary panel that was looking into Twitter’s concerns over the rules and regulations, and whether their concerns were legitimate or not.

    © BCCL
Within hours, their accounts were again unlocked.

From the surface, this seems like a rather vindictive move by Twitter, after it was determined that Twitter needs to abide by those guidelines if it wants to operate in India. However, further investigation into the matter has revealed, that the reason why Twitter locked Minister Ravi Shankar & Dr Tharoor out, is quite bizarre.
    © BCCL
Both, Minister Shankar, & Dr Tharoor had retweeted posts that contained portions of copyrighted songs. Dr Tharoor’s retweet contained a portion of a BoneyM song called "Rasputin," whereas Minister Ravi Shankar’s tweet contained a portion of AR Rahman’s “Maa Tujhe Salaam.”

Here’s where things get interesting. Standard policies dictate that using very brief portions of a song for non-commercial purposes is fair usage. Moreover, whenever a Tweet contains any copyrighted material, the tweet itself is removed. The account tweeting the copyrighted material getting locked is rather unprecedented.
Also, let’s not forget, that Dr Tharoor, simply retweeted an already existing Tweet.
In both cases, Twitter was apparently acting against a complaint it received from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, on behalf of Sony Music Entertainment. The interesting thing is, that the complaint, cited a US Law, called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
    © Twitter/rsprasad
After they were able to access their account, nboth the parliamentarians received a notice from Tiwtter saying that if they received more copyright infringement complaints, their accounts might get locked again, or even suspended.

    © Twitter/rsprasad
This has obviously led to some netizens crying foul, and suspecting that there is something ulterior about these accounts being locked.

I don’t care about anyone’s deafening silence sir. I only know one thing that we gave 303 and @rsprasad is throwing them in DUSTBIN.

Blocking a Minister is an Insult to INDIA. And only thing needed is to #BanTwitter but instead our minister is cribbing about his HELPLESSNESS.!

Or was it being a little too punitive? Do let us know in the comments below.
