In a post-pandemic world where social media has radically transformed the way we connect and communicate with each other, influencers have found themselves more empowered than ever before.

This writer believes that any individual or group that can affect or ‘influence’ social media users’ behavioural patterns can be deemed worthy of being considered influencers. Additionally, since the notion of a traditional offline occupation is becoming increasingly redundant, a slew of entertainers, athletes, businessmen, even a collective of like-minded individuals can be considered as ‘influencers’ (as we’ll find out later in this piece).
So, here are 3 moments from 2021 that truly illustrate the bizarre power held by influencers:

The Portuguese superstar has been all over the news lately because of an incident where he set aside 2 bottles of Coca-Cola with a pinch of disdain.

Replacing them with a bottle of water before proclaiming ‘Agua' (Portuguese for Water); the preferred choice for an athlete who treats his body like a temple, and is known for his aversion to carbonated drinks (despite having been Coke’s brand ambassador during his halcyon years).

However, this non-incident catapulted into a PR debacle for Coca-Cola, as their shares went tumbling from $56.10 to $55.22 by the end of the press conference

Elon’s erratic affair with cryptocurrency has been well documented on social media.

Earlier this year, the Tesla chief executive’s decision to add #bitcoin to his Twitter bio sent its prices soaring by 20%. His decision to buy $1.5 billion worth of cryptocurrency via bitcoin and dogecoin further hiked the currency by another 16%, in a day.
However, his romance with crypto was brought to a grinding halt when he tweeted Tesla's decision to stop accepting bitcoin as a form of payment for its vehicles.

Investors who had been waxing lyrical over him for the initial parts of 2021 found themselves launching accusations of ‘manipulative practices’ at Elon.

Bitcoin peaked in mid-April with $65,000. However, its value has plummeted by 40% since Elon’s cheeky tweet.

A concerted effort by the folks at r/WallStreetBets, a subreddit for those interested in the stock market, led to Redditors purchasing GameStop stocks in an attempt to rescue the ailing company from several prominent hedge funds including Melvin Capital.

These hedge funds had been looking to profit from GameStop’s failure, only for r/WallStreetBets to foil their plans.

Fueled by nostalgia and perhaps an aggressive Robin Hood complex, these Redditors bought up the ailing company’s stocks and sent it soaring by 1000%.

This unprecedented activity caused the hedge funds losses to the tune of almost $5 Billion.
It’s been a strange 2021, so far, let’s see what else this year has in store for us.

It’s 2021 and both Gen Z & Y are actively moving towards creating a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their loved ones. While the path to good health starts from eating a balanced diet and exercising, there are many everyday habits that stop it from being truly holistic.

During the pandemic, we all lost our sense of structure and the first thing that went south was our sleep cycle, plus when you add the stressful time our lives have been since March 2020, nothing good could have happened to our mental and physical health.
There are many habits that we are all aware affect our health adversely and yet we make no effort to change them. Basic steps like having a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, not smoking, adding physical activity to our lives. These are simple changes are the first steps towards giving the holistic care that your body needs.
Here are a few everyday habits that are standing in the way of your good health:
    __ECOMLOOKS__3030__
Not incorporating vegetables in your diet can lead to digestive issues and other health problems. Vegetables contain a multitude of vitamins and fibre that our body needs to stay in optimum shape. So, instead of munching on chips, add hummus and carrots to your snack list or add spinach to your pasta dish. There are many ways to make vegetables delicious.

    __ECOMLOOKS__3031__
However, exercising regularly is key to maintaining your heart health. Just 150 minutes per week which is only about 20 minutes a day of moderate-intensity physical activity (such as walking briskly or playing tennis) can lower your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and help you maintain a healthy weight. It can also make your heart muscle stronger so it pumps more effectively.
When it comes to exercise, a little bit is better than nothing. If you’re not very active right now, start slow. Find ways to include activity throughout your day. Try to make exercise fun, too. If it’s boring and you dread working out, you may have trouble staying consistent.
    __ECOMLOOKS__3032__
Stress can also lead to some unhealthy ways of coping, such as overeating, heavy drinking, and smoking all of which are not good for you. By taking some steps to reduce your stress levels like meditation, therapy, journaling, finding a relaxing hobby, not only will you help your heart, but you’ll also feel better.
    __ECOMLOOKS__3033__
So make sure you're drinking the recommended six to eight glasses of liquids like water, juice, or tea, a day. This is important to keep your body hydrated and make it easy for your kidneys to filter your blood. And, drinking more water can even help you feel more energized.

    __ECOMLOOKS__3034__
So, instead of using alcohol like beer or wine to quench your “thirst”, have a glass of water before each alcoholic drink, this helps in reducing the amount you drink. The better option is to find other relaxing ways of rewarding yourself, such as taking a bath or reading a good book before bed, and limiting your intake to a maximum of one glass a day.

    __ECOMLOOKS__3035__
Whipped cream adds about 140 calories, and each pump of flavoured syrup adds another 20. Without these sugary indulgences five times a week, you'll cut out at least 41,600 calories a year! If you want coffee, drink it with low-fat milk and skip the calorie-heavy treats or just cut out coffee altogether and switch to less caffeinated drinks like green tea.

    __ECOMLOOKS__3036__
In order to make sure your digestive system does not get overloaded, make an effort to really taste what you're eating and appreciate the flavours. Physically take yourself away from your desk to eat lunch, and give yourself at least 20 minutes to enjoy it.

To Wrap UpIn 2021, it is time to learn that sometimes little mistakes like getting six instead of eight hours of sleep, not drinking enough water, or surviving on 6 cups of coffee instead of getting a balanced meal can affect your health in a pretty big way. And yet, by making a few changes, you can easily turn your health around, and feel better!

    It's a simple fact!

Most of us cannot bear to imagine how our lives would have been without our fathers to guide us. They love us unconditionally, scold us when we are in the wrong, and row our boats when we feel we are lost in this crazy world. Now, while many still continue to spend our days with our fathers, working towards making them proud, there are many others who unfortunately lost their fathers at a relatively young age. However, with pain in their heart and soul, many succeeded in honoring their legacies by carving a name for themselves in the world. So, in a run-up to this year's Father's Day, let's take a look at five celebrities whose fathers had a huge role in them becoming famous:
    1. Cristiano Ronaldo © Twitter
Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as one of the most successful sportsmen in the world. Well, for all his feats and comparisons alongside fellow footballer Lionel Messi for top honors, Ronaldo was once a skinny kid in Madeira, Portugal, with a dream of reaching the top.

However, the rise to the top was not a simple one, as the tremendously talented Juventus star, lost his father, Dinis Aveiro, to liver failure in 2005, back when he had just started making a name for himself at Manchester United.
Cristiano himself revealed how he shared a complicated relationship with his father, however, his rags to riches story can be transpired from how his childhood was.
While Cristiano, who could not get the chance to truly show that he'd one day be considered to be one of the greatest footballers on the planet, it was revealed that his father knew that all along.
Martins, a friend of Cristiano's father, said he always believed in his son.
"(He said) My son will be the best player in the world,"
"We would call him a fool. He always believed," said Martins.
    2. Shah Rukh Khan © Twitter
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan isn't just an actor in the world with the fact completely exemplified by his support across the world. We mean, seriously, not many have been honored with their names on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai on their respective birthdays.

Despite his tremendous success, SRK lost his parents at a relatively young age, with his father passing away back when he was just 15.
    View this post on Instagram
However, the Main Hoon Na actor says that the loss was a driving force behind his acting career. While speaking to actress Rani Mukherjee, SRK had earlier said,

"My parents went away suddenly. We got to know they had cancer and within two and a half months, they were gone. I didn’t know what to do. I just felt one night, while at their mazaar that I should fill this void with something. I got a fortunate break in films. For me, acting is not work but a place to vent out my feelings."
    3. Virat Kohli © Instagram
Virat Kohli currently stands as the proud face of Indian cricket and is well respected across the entire sporting community, not just that of cricket.

However, his journey to becoming a top batsman and eventually the skipper of the Indian cricket team is of course, no way straight.
The charismatic captain was only 18 when he lost his father but instead of staying down because of the sorrow, he became even more motivated to fulfill his dream of becoming a top cricketer.
“I accepted his death, as I was focused on moving forward with my career."
“In fact, I went and batted in a Ranji Trophy match the day after he died. His death made me realize that I had to make something of my life. I think about how nice it would be if I could have given my father the peaceful retired life that he deserved. At times, I get emotional thinking about him,” said Kohli.
    4. Priyanka Chopra © Instagram
Priyanka Chopra has come a long way from winning the Miss World pageant back in 2000. In two decades, the star has gone on to make a name for herself in Bollywood before taking the step towards Hollywood as well, a feat that not a lot have managed to achieve.

Priyanka too, unfortunately, lost her father, Ashok Chopra, to cancer in 2012, and continues to talk about his role in her life.
"I miss most about him just how unabashedly proud of me he would be in the littlest things. Even if I am having dinner and my plate is clean, my dad would be excited. If I wore a dress that I liked, my dad would be excited." said Priyanka, who has a wrist tattoo dedicated to him.
"From the littlest thing to the biggest thing, he would be the loudest in the room. I miss the noise, the excitement he had, the joy and investment he had in my life, and just how excited he used to be about everything about me," she added.
    5. Billie Joe Armstrong © Billboard
Billie Joe Armstrong, with his punk rock band Greenday, has entertained millions of fans worldwide. While a lot of the band's songs have been hard-hitting, head-banging bangers, there is one song in particular that stands out.

The popular acoustic ballad is known by the name of "Wake Me Up When September Ends.

Written by Billie, the song was dedicated to his late father, Andrew Armstrong, who passed away when the rockstar was just 10 years old.

Speaking about the hit single, Billie says that it was a means of honoring his father.
“I think about him every day, really. I kinda avoided writing about him for many years, and then finally having a breakthrough like that felt good. It wasn’t like a negative emotion so much, but it was just kind of like honoring him.” said Billie.

“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers and singers of songs.” – Pam Brown
As a single dad, it must be overwhelming thinking about how you can raise your child without a mother and it’s hard to imagine men doing the part played by women for ages now. But, times are changing, and not just in the west, Indian men are writing history now and making bolder statements.
Five years ago, Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor surprised many people who thought a single man cannot be a father and shattered myths around surrogacy.
    View this post on Instagram
He took the bold step and opted for surrogacy using in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Moreover, he is unmarried, and in no time, the news of him having a kid through surrogacy spread like wildfire. Many questioned the movie and there were others who supported him for his decision.
Unaffected by the opinions and what hardships are ahead of him, Tusshar has been enjoying fatherhood duties since 2016 when he had welcomed his son Laksshya.
    View this post on Instagram
It might be hard at times but he is a hands-on father and in his own words, ‘I can put any mom and dad together to shame’.
Ahead of Fathers Day, I got a chance to interact with Tusshar Kapoor about the challenges of being a single father, vulnerabilities, and how his son's personality is shaping up.
    Excerpts from the interview:
It’s not easy to be a single father and you took that decision of having Laksshya in your life five years back. How has it been all this while if you can actually put that into words for us?
I actually can’t sum up the entire experience. I probably will have to write a book about the journey of being a father. I will have much more to write than a woman who becomes a mom through pregnancy. I didn’t have to do all of that but I had to make a path-breaking decision. I had to think about it thoroughly before actually welcoming the child into the world. I am really privileged and blessed that I got the chance to take this journey. As far as parenting is concerned, there have been no lows but only highs. No matter how hard and frustrating it gets at times, it’s all worth it.
    View this post on Instagram
When you took that decision of welcoming your child through surrogacy, there were a few people who judged you because as you yourself said that it was a path-breaking decision. How did you deal with this section of people because you broke the set patriarchal notion?
I remember getting a lot of respect from people and the media. There were headlines and people were looking up to it. People haven’t trolled me as such but they were appreciative of my decision. I was a bit apprehensive as I was thinking about how Indian men would react to this. Maybe there were a few people who had opinions about it, but they troll even the most respected people of the nation. I didn’t really bother about that section of people. I explained the process to people and there are many people who are single parents. You see single parents all over and it’s usual. It’s just I did that in a different manner which surprised people but there’s a first to every new thing. They were shocked but after a few days, it all turned to normalcy.

There’s a notion that mothers connect emotionally to their kids but fathers have a different approach. How do you connect to your son at an emotional level?
I can put any mom and dad put together to shame. There are lots of good parents but when a question pops up that ‘yeh akela kaise karega’, I can shut all those mouths because I never felt like I needed anyone nor I felt like that my nurturing is not emotional. My son is happy and I have unconditional love for him. I am not scared to show him my affection and I don’t have to be like a mom who is all cuddly. People have their own way of showing love. Even a man with unconditional love can bring up his child. He is happy growing up in my arms too. In the case of married couples, one partner doesn’t get involved in raising the baby, I feel in this case I am doing a far better job. There are no rules that a mother can only give a delicate touch and a rough and tough man can’t give that touch. I feel even men can do it.
    View this post on Instagram
You raised a very important point here that at times, a partner doesn’t take any responsibility leaving the other taking all the load of raising a child. What would you say to such couples?
I won’t say that married people have it easier. If this happens, it becomes like a single parent. If that single parent isn’t working, he or she can give an ample amount of time to the kid but if he or she is working, it genuinely gets harder. Sometimes both the parents are involved in taking care of their child and do a great job.
You did mention that it does get hard and frustrating at times. Were there any moments when you felt vulnerable and didn’t know how to get going?
I never ever felt like that. The only time I felt that parenting in these times is hard is when online schooling came into being because you really have to be tech-savvy for it. It takes a lot of time to understand it but you gradually get a hang of it. There will be phases where things will change and will have to adjust to these things. Laksshya is now in senior KG and now, he will have to attend his school from 9 am to 2.40 pm. This will be a new challenge.
Coming to Laksshya, how is his personality shaping up?
He is very balanced and has varied interests. He likes his numbers, arts and crafts, football, puzzles, and music classes. He knows what he wants. I think we got limited knowledge and hence we had a tough time deciding what we wanted for our future but these kids are getting more exposure and they know what they want in their lives.
    View this post on Instagram
Also, it’s said that children take certain habits from their parents. Have you taken anything from your father that helps you in nurturing your son?
I have taken things from him that would come to use much later. My dad was a working dad and he was hands-on in parenting. I have imbibed the fitness bit from my father and that has been inherited by my son too.
    View this post on Instagram
It was really fun interviewing him and Tusshar has surely set a benchmark for men who are planning to take the route of becoming single fathers.

The Indian Olympic contingent recently suffered a massive setback when one of the most well-known and respected athletes of all time, Sushil Kumar, was accused of beating his compatriot to death with a stick while making his associate film the entire episode on camera.
Upon further investigation, one of the biggest reasons to have come forward for such a violent act was the involvement of a Ukrainian girl and essentially two people from each gang falling for her.

Among gangsters and goons proudly kidnapping, taking hostages, and murdering people out in the open, the nation asks if this is what the concept of masculinity has been reduced to. Is this what truly means ‘to be a man’?

We asked two of India’s brightest Tokyo Olympics prospects, namely boxers Amit Paghal and Vikas Yadav, about their greatest hardships, how they managed to overcome the mental struggles that came along with it, and what are their thoughts on ‘Indian masculinity’.
    View this post on Instagram
    What’s the biggest/most recent setback you’ve faced?
“The biggest setback that I have faced in my life was during the London Olympics 2012 in which I had won the fight (vs Errol Spence in pre-quarterfinal) at night and later they changed the decision and took away the victory from me,” says Vikas, reliving the disappointment and losing the opportunity to get a podium finish at the greatest stage of them all.
    View this post on Instagram
“Losing the finals of the Asian Boxing Championship (against Shakhobidin Zoirov in May 2021) stings the most for me. By the time the final bell rang, I was sure that the judges were going to rule in my favour but to see the final result completely crushed me. I thought to myself ‘What else can I do to win? I gave it my everything’,” Amit replied.
What has been the most vulnerable moment of your life?
“Losing in the quarterfinals in Olympics 2016 has to be it. I knew how close I was to winning a medal that year but to come back home empty-handed is what broke me. I had to restart from scratch and regroup my strength and two years later, I was the gold medallist at Commonwealth, 2018,” Vikas said.
    View this post on Instagram
“I would say the first 10-15 minutes after losing the ABC finals was when my vulnerability was at its peak. I had lost all hope and had no idea what I would do in the future, especially, because I felt I had given the bout every last bit of my strength and still ended up on the losing side. I did not want to be in that ring. I simply asked my doctor to fix my cuts up as quickly as possible and I just wanted to run away from the arena,” Amit adds.
What does the concept of ‘Men don’t cry’ mean to you?
As an athlete, I am an extremely emotional human being. I feel that a lot of strength and the will to continue to fight comes from your true emotions. Of course, men should and must cry. We are allowed to express ourselves as well. For me, when I am feeling low or disheartened after a loss, I simply start talking to my niece,” Amit says with a smile on his face.
“She is still a baby and does not understand boxing. For her, it’s all about when I come back home, I should be loaded with gifts and candies for her. She doesn’t care whether I win or lose. That’s special to me and that’s what keeps me going.”
    View this post on Instagram
“If a man tells you that he doesn’t cry, he is the biggest liar in the world. Men cry, all men cry. I feel we are more emotional than women, at least I can personally vouch for myself on this. There is no doubt about that.”
What does the concept of ‘masculinity’ mean to you?
    View this post on Instagram
“For me, masculinity means standing up for the rights of everyone. Whether a person is rich or poor, man or woman, whether he is a worker, a sweeper, or even if he comes from a wealthy family, it should not matter. I think that real men are the ones who stand up against everything that's wrong in the world. He stands up and fights for a change. That’s what I really think about masculinity,” Vikas says.

Abhishek Bachchan often takes us by surprise, especially with his sense of style.
There have been innumerable times when our Junior Bachchan stepped out wearing uber-cool pieces and classic silhouettes from his wardrobe.
Whether he is seen wearing two smart fitness trackers together or stuns us in an elegant suit, Abhishek knows how to keep us clinging more to his style statement.

Amid the lockdown, there were hardly any celebrities who were being papped, for obvious reasons. But now, since things are moving again slowly, we recently saw Abhishek step out in a dope ensemble.
Seen wearing some striking athleisure pieces, the outfit looked inspiring, particularly, for millennials. However, his big, chunky sneakers proved his ranking in the style stakes. Take a look.
    © Sneakernews
Abhishek is wearing the Air Jordan 6 Infrared. The shoes feature original detailing like a Nike Air hit on the back and crisp infrared accents on both midsole and heel tab.

The timeless design is a hit amongst Jordan fans. Dressed mainly in black nubuck, this one has reflective 3M later underneath with infrared accents and lace lock. The Nike Air branding is adorned on the heel and sock liner.

As for its price, these sneakers currently retail for Rs 30,000. Add usual and custom duties, and these will easily cost a whopping Rs 35,000. That's definitely not affordable!

Coming to his outfit, he was seen wearing a rather rad and zany outfit. AB Jr is wearing a simple oversized black hoodie with black joggers. The pants, if you observe, have a washed-out effect slightly.

We don't know if it's intentional, but it's certainly a great style move that AB has pulled.
As for accessories, he kept it minimal with his smartwatch. Overall, the look is quite laid-back and it shows, he has an effortless taste in the athleisure department.

AB is truly one actor who knows how to make waves his style choices and we reckon he could give us a lesson or two in fashion. This look is a clear depiction of that.

Pained with the passing away of the legendary sprinter, PM Modi said that with Milkha Singh, the country has lost “a colossal sportsperson” who inspired millions of Indians whenever he graced the track.

“In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared himself to millions. Anguished by his passing away,” PM Modi tweeted.
I had spoken to Shri Milkha Singh Ji just a few days ago. Little did I know that it would be our last conversation. Several budding athletes will derive strength from his life journey. My condolences to his family and many admirers all over the world.
    — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) June 18, 2021
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who holds a similar stature in his field as Milkha Singh has in athletics, also expressed his condolences and added that his departure has “left a deep void in every Indians” heart.
Rest in Peace our very own ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh ji.

May you have a golden run in heaven, Flying Sikh. Om shanti, Sir 🏻
    — Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) June 19, 2021 Milkha Singh lost his parents and three brothers during the partition riot and, somehow, made it to the refugee camps in Delhi, where living (read surviving) each day was a struggle of its own.
But he did what he had to do, working odd jobs considered dangerous for a child of his age or stealing goods to make ends meet -- he did all and survived against all odds.
Despite growing up in tough circumstances, he wasn’t afraid of challenges, in fact, that is what made him more resolute and propelled him to push even harder after each failure.
Shri Milkha Singh ji was not just a sports star but a source of inspiration for millions of Indians for his dedication and resilience.

My condolences to his family and friends.

    — Venkatesh Prasad (@venkateshprasad) June 19, 2021 He found solace in athletics after joining the Indian Army but, like everything else in his life, the journey was full of hardships as he failed not once but thrice, but that didn’t shake his confidence and he kept on persisting and reaped the rewards.
He finished his career with 77 wins out of 80 races and won four gold medals at the Asian Games and a gold at the 1958 Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Indian to win individual gold at the CWG.
That said, one of his greatest performances didn’t involve any medals as he missed the podium finish at the 1960 Rome Olympics, finishing fourth in the 400m final.
His timing remained the national record for the next 38 years.
He was conferred with the country’s fourth-highest civilian award Padma Shri in 1959 for his achievements in the field of sports.

You also learn to let go, communicate better, and lay full faith in each other for support in each of the poses, building better physical and emotional support.

    2. Enhances IntimacyIntimacy has got more to do with mutual vulnerability and openness with your partner than anything sexual. And couples yoga allows you to be all that.
Partner yoga creates a sense of fun, physical touch, codependency that helps you come closer to your partner. Conscious and consensual human touch makes the other person feel more cared for, loved, accepted, valued, and enhances your intimacy.

    3. Boosts Sexual Satisfaction A study has found that couples yoga can help couples struggling with sexual dissatisfaction.
While couples yoga isn’t sexual in nature, but increased communication through touch and movement and better blood flow definitely helps boost *** drive, boosting your overall sexual experience.
It can also help you practice mindful ***, being more in the moment than ever before.

5 Couples Yoga Poses To Try1. Partner Breathing © iStock
Sit cross-legged in a comfortable seated position, back resting against each other. Now, begin to breathe alternately with your partner, so as you inhale, your partner exhales and vice versa.

Continue this for 5 minutes to build a deeper connection without words with your partner. Also, a great way to start any partner yoga practice.
    2. Back-To-Back Chair Pose  © iStock
Take your breathing pose to a level up and stand back-to-back with your partner with arms relaxed by your sides. Press your backs firmly together and slowly bend your knees and lower down as if you are sitting on a chair.

Pause and take five to ten steady breaths. Maintain length in your spine and press into each other to strengthen the muscles in your thighs and legs.
This exercise increases ankle mobility and helps build trust with your partner by using their support to hold the pose.

Stick to the same seated position like in the above two poses. Take your arms overhead as you inhale and twist your arm to the right, bringing your right hand to the inside of your partner's left knee and left hand to the outside of your right knee as you exhale.

Have your partner mirror the movement, hold for five breaths, then repeat on the opposite side.

Take a downward dog position, one in front of the other.

Now raise your lower body and walk your feet back slowly from your partner’s shoulders to the outside of your partner's lower back or hips. Come to a stable and comfortable position and hold for five to ten breaths.
Ask your partner to bend knees, and lower to child's pose, as you release feet to the floor.

Sit comfortably facing each other, with knees bent and toes touching. Reach for your partner’s wrists and slowly lift the soles of your feet together, drawing knees into the chest.

Try to keep your spine straight and chest open as you straighten the legs. Hold for five to ten breaths.
Final ThoughtsCompanionship is always about support, be it life or partner yoga. And if you are looking to strengthen your bond with your partner while building your own physical and emotional fitness, give couples yoga a try.
Just start small and don’t force yourself to attempt poses that you can’t in the first go. Push your limits slowly by practicing it every day.
Always remember that we tend to accomplish more, with much more joy when we support each other.
