We have grown up watching Bollywood movies and idolising reimagining some iconic scene a couple of times in our head. From gravity defying fight scenes to walking past a bomb blast to meeting the love of your life on a Euro trip, we have been fed some really unrealistic plots and scenarios by Hindi movies.

It took us some time to realise that these movies are called fiction for a reason. A father offering a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh to leave your girlfriend or you engaging in a gun fight to save your kid--these things only happen in movies and never in real life. It’s annoying how we have been living a lie.

Here are 10 things that happen too often in Bollywood movies but never in real life.

    1. Someone dramatically stopping a weddingI have been to so many weddings and never have I ever witnessed any ex lover gate-crashing and ruining the wedding by saying, “Ruko, yeh shaadi nahi ho sakti” Safe to say I am really disappointed by the non-dramatic weddings I’ve attended.

    2. A beautiful girl’s dupatta getting stuck on your cuffAn iconic romantic scene in romcoms and a fantasy for all 90s kids! Bumping into a cute stranger and your clothes entangle, followed by deep and long eye-contact. If it’s not destiny, we don’t know what is.

    3. People coming back from the deadIn movies, people always have extra lives like a video game character. They rise from the dead, are saved by locals after a plane crash or get incarnated only to come back and avenge their death. Let me know if it has EVER happened to anyone you know. I’ll wait.
    4. College students don’t bother studyingThe teenagers who practically look like adult supermodels are concerned about everything, but their studies. They will compete for love, friendship, dance competition and everything in between but studying never crosses their mind. And, they still end up becoming filthy rich.

    5. They never finish their mealsWe have never seen any character finishing their meals despite an elaborate spread on the table. Most often they would just get pissed about something and leave the 100 exotic dishes on the table. Who does that? Not desi kids, who get whooped if they leave food on the plate.

    6. People take forever to dieThe hero gets shot (if he does, because otherwise they are all invincible) but rather than dying, he lies in blood, bidding their last goodbyes, apologising and making others swear they’ll be happy without them? I am sure IRL, people just panic and ask to get them to a hospital asap.

    7. Flash Mob Very stereotypical of Bollywood and an age-old element that never really surprised us. But take a second to think. Where do all these people come from? How do they know the steps? Why are their outfits perfectly coordinated?
    8. People decide to fight crime themselvesDoes no one trust the system anymore? Let me rephrase that. Is everyone so well equipped and smart that they take it upon themselves to solve murders, theft and other crimes themselves? How come calling the police never occurs to them?

    9. No one dresses according to the weather What is the weather even? In Mohabbatein, the girls wore summer clothes, Shah Rukh had a sweater hanging on his shoulder and Amitabh Bachchan wore a galaband jacket. Especially, in songs, they would wear leather pants and ghaghra in the desert and a shirt and saree in the snow.

    10. People murder people like it’s NBDAn action film is incomplete without a nail-biting fist fight followed by a gun fight. However, even though the hero isn’t a cop or even skilled enough to shoot, they would kill people like it’s child’s play. Plus, they never get arrested for it--A MURDER!

How many of these did you wish happened to you IRL?

PUBG Mobile’s publisher and one of the biggest internet companies in the world is now facing an antitrust crackdown in China. But long before its troubles in China, many internet users already found the company to be one of the shadiest internet companies in the world. Tencent is currently the fifth biggest internet company in the world right behind Amazon, Google and Facebook. However, the company has taken egregious steps to become one of the most profitable companies in the world. Here’s why many people still have a hard time trusting the Chinese internet giant:
    1. It Censors Freedom of Speech and Not Only in China © MensXP
Tencent has to follow strict online censorship rules in China as the CPC (Communist Party of China) controls the internet in the country with an iron fist. However, what people don’t realise is that Tencent also uses its products as a way to spread China’s soft power all over the world. We tested this ourselves during the Hong Kong Protests and when PUBG Mobile was available to play in India. Suppressing freedom of speech in democratic countries has long been a contending issue until the game was finally banned in India.

If you thought your data was secure on Tencent owned apps and games, you couldn’t be more wrong. Privacy advocates have repeatedly found that Tencent shared conversations of its users with the Chinese government. The company has also been accused of using AI to identify and block images to get around government censorship by Chinese citizens. Tencent has also shut down social media accounts on its platforms of users who have been critical of the Chinese government.

    3. It Copies Games © Uptodown
Tencent has been accused of shamelessly copying games and its founder Ma Huateng has even been called the "plagiarism king.” One of Tencent’s biggest games, Kings of Glory was a direct copy of League of Legends when it first launched in 2016. The game was a massive success and became the world’s biggest game that year. Tencent soon bought ‘Riot Games’ from its earnings, the developer that owns League of Legends.

    4.  It’s Been Accused of Corporate Espionage  © Reuters
The Trump administration and the US Government banned Tencent owned WeChat as it posed a risk to American data privacy or national security. While the ban has been overturned by President Biden, it’s still not out of hot water. However, the White House claimed before the ban that WeChat and other apps like TikTok collected so much data that  it could allow companies to "conduct corporate espionage.” Companies like Tencent are required to help China’s government whenever asked to silence political dissent and for surveillance purposes. Tencent Chief Executive Ma Huateng openly talks about working with the Chinese Government and has voiced support for private companies working with the government on law enforcement and security issues.

The LGBTQIA+ community is a growing one. It is a vibrant community that is made up of members and allies. While many of us have been allies for years, new ones are joining every day.
During this pride month, let’s take a step towards understanding the community better. While we might understand what each letter stands for, the one new aspect that is confusing new allies are the Pronouns.
The most prevalent pronouns in English (he/she) generally refer to a person's gender. These pronouns may not fit queer, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and transgender people, causing discomfort, tension, and worry.
It might not seem like a big deal to heterosexuals but messing up someone’s pronouns can cause discomfort and trigger lasting trauma. So it is never too late to learn!
    © MensXP
Let’s Start With Some BasicsThe first step is to understand what LGBTQIA+ stands for, and being on the same page about that is extremely important. Please be aware that even though someone may fit the generally used definition of one of these terms, they may not personally identify this way. That’s okay, they don’t have to! It’s always best to ask, and please listen, how a person refers to themself.
***: *** is a general, societal term that defines whether you are male, female or intersex. The *** is generally assigned by a doctor at birth based on the genitals you’re born with and the chromosomes you have. It does not necessarily match someone’s sexual/gender identity.
Gender: Gender is a little more difficult to grasp. It's social and legal status, as well as a set of societal standards for actions, characteristics, and views. Gender identity refers to a person's internal opinion of their gender and how they name themselves based on how closely they agree or disagree with their gender possibilities.
Cisgender: Applies to someone whose gender matches their “assigned” *** at birth.
Transgender: Applies to a person whose gender is different from their “assigned” *** at birth. Doctors typically assign gender based on sexual organs, but *** and gender are different.
Non-binary:  Non-binary is a spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or exclusively feminine‍. They are identities that are outside the binary constructs of male and female.
Genderfluid: This term refers to a person whose gender identity shifts over time or at different intervals. This doesn’t mean the person is confused or wants to play all sides of the spectrum, this just means that the person does not want to confirm just one identity.

Through all this, it is important to remember that Sexual Orientation is an emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to other people; of the same gender, different gender or multiple genders. It has nothing to do with the physical anatomy of the person and forcing people to subscribe to traditional gender norms is what needs to change.

This vast spectrum is why many new-age parents are choosing to give their children a gender-neutral upbringing and making sure that the new generation grows up to be more accepting, considerate, understanding, and aware.

Now, Let’s Talk PronounsWe have all learnt what pronouns are in school. We were taught how to use them in sentences and how to assign a pronoun based on gender or the person or thing.
But by assuming someone’s pronouns based on how they look, we reinforce harmful stereotypes about gender expression. For example, the idea that a masculine-looking person always uses he/him/his pronouns is not right!
It is important to understand and respect each individual’s identity, which is why the first step is to drop all preconceived notions and assumptions about someone's pronouns or sexual orientation and make a habit of introducing ourselves with our pronouns.

While it can be confusing to remember and use plural pronouns for one person, practice is key. Now, what are the most common pronouns? Here is the list:

He/Him- This is a common pronoun that we all know how to use but again it is important to remember that my pronouns are not based on my “***”.
She/Her- Just like he/him, this is also an everyday pronoun that is not based on *** and gender.
They/Them- This is where the confusion starts! Yes, it is perfectly okay to use these for a single person. Most people use pronouns that are either gender-neutral or gender-fluid but it is best to ask and not assume!
Ze (or Zie)/Zir/Hir- This can also be spelt as xe. "Ze" tends to be thought of as a gender-neutral pronoun. A person who goes by "ze" could be a man, a woman, both, neither, or something else entirely.
    __ECOMPRODUCT__1818__
Why Is It Important To Use Correct Pronouns?Just like using a person's name can be a way to respect them, using their right personal pronouns can be a way to respect them and promote an inclusive environment. Using pronouns is similar to calling someone by their given name.
I think we can all agree that none of us like when someone messes up our name or straight-up refuses to learn the right way to pronounce it and instead gives us a nock-name we hate! Using wrong pronouns is the same feeling.
Consciously choosing to reject someone's declared pronouns could convey the repressive notion that intersex, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people do not exist or should not exist.

It is IMPORTANT to understand that gender and sexual orientation are extremely private topics of conversation. When someone chooses to share their pronouns with you, it is not an invitation to ask probing, personal questions about their gender, *** or preferences.

In 2021, we are at a stage where the need for decency, privacy and kindness towards one and another is extremely important. Whether you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, an ally, a potential ally or someone who wants to take the first step towards being an open, accepting person, then all you need to do is be part of the conversation and be open to listening!
If you want to learn more on how to become a true ally to the LGBTQIA+ community then don’t miss out on the ‘Sensitivity & Allyship’ workshop on MensXP Experiences.
To Wrap UpPride Month is not just about celebrating the community and parades but also about starting a conversation about the betterment of LGBTQIA+ people, creating a more inclusive society where loving whoever you want is a right that cannot be taken away.
