    The Indian Government’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered WhatsApp to withdraw the new privacy policy or face legation action by May 25th. The company was told to roll back the privacy policy the instant messaging is forcing on its users.

    “We have a sovereign responsibility to protect the rights and interests of Indian citizens. The government will consider various options available under the law,” a senior IT ministry official said. The Ministry also went a notice on late Tuesday saying “The changes to the privacy policy and the manner of introducing these changes including in FAQ (frequently asked questions) undermines the sacrosanct values of informational privacy, data security and user choice for Indian users and harms the rights and interests of Indian citizens.”

    Officials said that the deferral of the May 15th deadline by WhatsApp did not absolve it from respecting the information privacy, data security and user choice for Indian users. This is the second notice sent by the IT ministry to WhatsApp asking to withdraw the new controversial privacy policy. In January, the ministry wrote a letter to global WhatsApp, Chief Executive Officer, Will Cathcart asking that the latest privacy and policy update be withdrawn. 
    The latest notice also reiterated WhatsApp’s “discriminatory” treatment of its Indian users comparing to those in Europe. “As you are doubtlessly aware, many Indian citizens depend on WhatsApp to communicate in everyday life. It is not just problematic, but also irresponsible, for WhatsApp to leverage this position to impose unfair terms and conditions on Indian users, particularly those that discriminate against Indian users vis-à-vis users in Europe,” the new notice reads.

    Earlier this week, WhatsApp told the Delhi High Court that while the new privacy policy may have come into effect, the instant messaging app did not start deleting accounts of users who did not accept the new terms. However, that claim is further from the truth as the company will gradually limit the functionality of the app of users who have not accepted the new terms. 

    WhatsApp said on Wednesday that the majority of its users have already accepted the privacy policy. “Our goal is to provide information about new options we are building that people will have, to message a business on WhatsApp, in the future. While the majority of users who have received the new terms of service have accepted them, we appreciate some people haven’t had the chance to do so yet. No accounts were deleted on May 15 because of this update and no one in India lost the functionality of WhatsApp either. We will follow up with reminders to people over the next several weeks," a WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement.

    All he wanted was a happily ever after. Unfortunately, even before things could go as far as happy, his pyaar went faraar.   


    Just a couple of hours after his wedding, Rajni had to leave town to take over his role as the new judge of a small town. A couple of days later, he comes home to find his new bride missing. 
    What starts off as a chase to find the missing bride, leads to unexpected confusion, speculation, dirty politics, and even a run-in with Bulbul’s jaded ex-lover. But does the madness lead them to the Runway Lugaai? (We aren’t giving away any spoilers!)  
    Naveen Kasturia plays his demure character to perfection. From his nuanced accent to his submissive stature, he plays the introvert Rajni with complete ease. 
    His uninterested body language and witty takeaways from the court proceedings add a funny undertone to the narrative of the show. He is either distracted by enticing photos of his new wife or busy apologizing to her all through the court hearings. 
    The real surprise is Ruhi Singh as Bulbul aka the Runaway Lugaai. Her exaggerated character can’t be ignored. Bulbul is a free-spirited woman who refuses to be tamed by patriarchy, and Ruhi Singh did a great job bringing the character to life.
