    Sometimes when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. A fake Netflix app was discovered to be spreading malware and getting access to personal information according to Check Point Research. The app is called ‘FlixOnline’ which borrows Netflix’s branding to spread malware via WhatsApp.

    The app promises users to view Netflix content from all parts of the world on their smartphones, however it gains access to permissions you probably wouldn’t give willingly. The malware spread from the app can automatically reply to WhatsApp messages with a payload. “the malware is capable of automatically replying to victims’ incoming WhatsApp messages with a payload received from a command-and-control (C&C) server. This unique method could have enabled threat actors to distribute phishing attacks, spread false information or steal credentials and data from users’ WhatsApp accounts, and more” the report said.

    The malware replicates itself by sending out messages to the victim’s WhatsApp content list with the message “2 Months of Netflix Premium Free at no cost For REASON OF QUARANTINE (CORONA VIRUS)* Get 2 Months of Netflix Premium Free anywhere in the world for 60 days. Get it now HERE.”

    The Check Point teams say clicking on the link will result in spreading malicious links, stealing data from WhatsApp accounts and extorting users by threatening to send sensitive WhatsApp data. What’s astonishing is that the app was available to download on the Play Store for a while before it was taken offline by Google. It was available for 2 months and was downloaded 500 times and even more once those texts were sent out. The app is also available on third-party websites and we highly recommend staying away. If you happen to have downloaded the app on your device, you should delete it right away along with all the data the app may have stored.

    Android apps with malware are not new and just last month a malicious Clubhouse app was discovered that stole bank details and even took over your smartphone. These apps are usually made to steal data, bank account login details and launch phishing attacks. As a cautionary warning for the future, if the app isn’t verified by the Play Store and does not look like the real deal, do not be tempted to download that app.

    Lenovo announced a new gaming smartphone called the Phone Duel 2 that comes with two USB-C ports, built-in fans and a pop-up camera module. The smartphone places most of its crucial hardware in the middle of the phone so that it is easier for the fans to keep the smartphone cool. However, it also happens to be the most vulnerable part of the smartphone since it is thicker from the middle.

    YouTuber JerryRigEverything got a hold of the smartphone and put it through some rigorous durability tests. The YouTuber regularly tests smartphones on his channel and most devices usually pass with acceptable results. However, the Lenovo Phone Duel 2 didn’t fare well as it easily snapped at the antenna line which meets at the middle section. The phone basically fell apart like a sandwich which puts the durability of the smartphone into question. The smartphone broke with little force. In fact, even the other side of the phone broke and this shows how the smartphone lacks structural integrity. 

    This might be problematic for rage quitters who can accidentally break the smartphone by applying very little force. The ASUS ROG Phone 5 also fell apart during a similar test, however it required a lot more force. The Lenovo Phone Duel 2 might have snapped easily due to its dual-battery design but there could be other reasons as well. The antenna lines on the sides and the centre of the phone could be weak spots as well which may have caused the smartphone to snap in two. It is worth pointing out that the front glass display was intact after the test, however the smartphone was rendered useless as it no longer turned on.

    The Lenovo Phone Duel 2 might be a great gaming smartphone but this test shows that the company may have not used premium sturdy materials for the body of the smartphone.     In an incident that seems to be straight out of a Priyadarshan film, 3 elderly women in Shamli were given the rabies anti-viral shot instead of the COVID vaccine that they had asked for.

    In a bizarre and freak incident that would have certainly made the health officials and everyone involved in the incident facepalm themselves really hard, the Community Health Centre at Kandhla, from where COVID vaccines were being administered in Shamli, immunised three elderly women, aged 70, 72 & 60  with rabies antiviral. Only in Uttar Pradesh can something like this happen, given the madness that often ensues there.

    The “mistake” first came to light when one of the women, aged 70, developed some complications and started showing some side effects. Worried that these might be the side effects of the COVID vaccine which was administered earlier, the woman’s family members took her to a private hospital.

    At the hospital, one of the doctors discovered that the woman in question had been given the rabies antiviral shot.

    The two other women spotted the red flag when they were not asked to submit copies of their Aadhar cards, even after getting the shot. A “gangster” move like this can only be planned by graduates of WhatsApp University, doesn’t it seem so?

    The three families, upon learning that this wasn’t exactly a mistake, but a fraudulent practice by the Health Centre, obviously created a ruckus, and demanded that the CMO be involved in this matter and order an investigation.
    Shamli’s DM, Jagjit Singh, has ordered a probe into the incident and has assured the family that strict actions shall be taken against the perpetrators.
    This incident of fraud, has since then, taken a major political colour given how disorganised the vaccine drives have been in certain parts of the country.

    Where there is a will, there is a way, and villagers in India's southwest Karnataka state have chosen to take it quite literally. 
    Ever since FASTag, an electronic toll collection system in India, was implemented by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in the state, it has been met with mixed reactions.

    The system was seen as a significant step in overcoming barriers in toll collection as it employs Radio Frequency Identification technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it directly to the toll owner. 

    While it may indeed have been the right step, considering the current risk of spread of the Coronavirus through the exchange of currency notes, there has been disagreement between locals and toll companies with regard to concessions. 
    With the economy still in shambles and employment opportunities hard to come by, some locals would rather choose to pay less or not at all while passing through toll booths. 
    In fact, there has been an increasing demand for a toll-free route altogether in order to completely eradicate any such charges. 
    Exhausted from paying toll tax, the residents of Hejamadi village, which lies on the busy Mangaluru-Udupi highway in the state, made a series of pleas to the authorities.  
    On the local gram panchayat's request for a concession on buses from the village, the authorities later promised the matter to be resolved in accordance. 
    However, the concessions never came in, which forced the locals to take matters into their own hands.
    After an emergency meeting held by the gram panchayat, the locals resorted to using an earth excavating machine or bulldozer to carve out a parallel, temporary 'toll-free' road right next to the toll booth.

    As the news of the developments broke out to the authorities, a representative of the concessionaire rushed to the spot to request the locals to stop the construction and negotiate a middle ground. 

    However, the villagers stood firm, and only when they were given a written assurance of their demands being met, that they decided to stop the bulldozing procedure.

    A Twitter user called Abhishek Bachchan’s performance in The Big Bull extremely disappointing and also said that Pratik Gandhi and Hansal Mehta’s web series, Scam 1992 was far better than the Abhishek Bachchan film.

    At the end of the ODI series against England, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had raised concerns about the strenuous schedule that the Men in Blue had to follow, especially under the bio-bubble.
    "As I said, a couple of days ago as well, scheduling is something that needs to be looked at in the future," Kohli had said during the post-match ceremony. "Because playing in bubbles for so long, two-three months is going to be very, very difficult going forward."

    At a time when the United States has seen history unfold with Kamala Harris becoming the first woman Vice President, and with work being underway to deal with issues like the gender pay gap and gender equality, there happen to be still some incidents that send us right back to the caveman era. 

    The most recent example of this was when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had traveled to Turkey on Wednesday (April 08) along with European Council President Charles Michel to meet Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
    Despite there being three leaders present during the meeting, there were only two chairs kept in the room, and to von der Leyen's surprise, she wasn't offered a single one despite being the only woman in the talks.

     Von der Leyen, who is the first female lead of the EU executive, was taken aback and could only gesture in disbelief when Michel took the only remaining center-stage seat alongside Erdogan. 
    Footage of the meeting showed Von der Leyen uttering a surprised sigh after seeing the awkward game of musical chairs unfold right before her, before being relegated to the sofa adjacent to the chairs.

     Following the meeting, however, the EU executive arm's spokesman, Eric Mamer, released a statement saying, "The president of the Commission was clearly surprised." 
    "The president (von der Leyen) should have been seated in exactly the same manner as the president of the European Council and the Turkish president."
    There was no immediate response to the request for comment from the Turkish government. 
    However, as per reports, a member of the European Parliament, Sophie in't Veld, asked why Michel had not reacted to the distasteful incident. 
    Later, on the same day, Michel in a Facebook post admitted that the incident was "regrettable" and caused by "Turkish authorities’ strict interpretation of protocol rules".
    `The 45-year-old Belgian leader said he decided against a public confrontation.
    As per an EU official, who declined to be named, any public confrontation would have resulted in provoking a "protocol and political incident."
    "Turkey meant no disrespect. It extended a very courteous welcome to both presidents and strictly adhered to international protocol." the official said. 
    However, in the past when Turkish leaders had visited Brussels, three chairs had been provided for the meeting with the heads of the Commission and European Council.

    According to EU spokesman, von der Leyen still decided not to make "an issue out of it" and in the conversation brought up women's rights and the Istanbul Convention on violence against women, from which Turkey withdrew in March.
