Bollywood movies glamorise love and make one believe in ‘happily ever after’ but sometimes, the thin line between fiction and reality is darker than one can fathom.  Some of our favourite stars have faced the wrath of bitterness in love and nursed a broken heart, like all of us. Here are four celebrity couples who got engaged but never got married:

1. Salman Khan & Sangeeta Bijlani- Bhai wants to stay single forever but once upon a time, he did fall in love to maybe settling down.  Infact, as per various reports , the two date for over a decade! Salman spoke about ‘almost’ getting married to Sangeeta on a Koffee With Karan. “There was a time that I really wanted to get married and then it just didn’t work out. I have always come so close. People have got cold feet. ‘Theek hai, boyfriend, isko zindagi bhar jhelna padega kya . With Sangeeta, even the cards and all were printed”, he said. Sangeeta eventually got married to cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin.

Karisma Kapoor & Abhishek Bachchan- Around the year 2000 when Abhishek was making his debut with Kareena in Refugee, the entire media and Karisma fans were taken by surprise when the two announced their engagement. The two families started making several family appearances at public events and the couple was supposedly madly in love before the engagement was called off for mysterious reasons.

3. Raveena Tandon & Akshay Kumar-This couple was one of the hottest couples of the 90s era and it broke the hearts of their million fans when the engagement was called off abruptly. Akshay was also rumoured to be dating Shilpa Shetty before he married Twinkle Khanna.

4. Vivek Oberoi & Gurpreet Gill – Before he fell for Aishwarya, Vivek was in a committed relationship with model Gurpreet Gill.  The two almost tied the knot before the relationship abruptly ended.
