Gambhir Receives Death Threat From ‘ISIS Kashmir’, Delhi Police Beefs Up Security


Former cricketer and current BJP politician Gautam Gambhir has reached out to the Delhi Police and requested them to file an FIR and beef up security arrangements outside his house after he received an alleged email from ‘ISIS Kashmir’, threatening to kill him and his family members.

The former India opener, who is currently a Member of Parliament from the East Delhi constituency, received the alleged email on his official email ID on Tuesday night at 9:32 pm and his team soon reached out to the Delhi Police and urged them to take necessary action.

As per the officials, the threat mail that Gambhir received read: “We are going to kill you and your family”.

“This is further to our telecommunication, we have received an email from ISIS Kashmir on the official email ID of Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday evening. The mail states death threat to MP and his family. I therefore request you to look into the matter and make adequate security arrangement,” read a letter sent to DCP central district written by Gaurav Arora, PS to Gambhir.

After receiving the complaint, the Delhi Police filed the FIR and tightened the security arrangements outside the BJP MP’s house. Moreover, the special cyber cell of Delhi Police has launched an investigation into the matter to trace the source of the mail and nab the culprits.

“Gautam Gambhir has approached the Delhi Police, alleging he has received death threats from 'ISIS Kashmir'. The investigation is under way. Security has been beefed up outside Gambhir's residence,” said Shweta Chauhan, DCP central.

Gambhir was not the only to have received such threats, several other notable personalities also received a similar email from the same source giving death threats.

The fans took to the micro-blogging site and urged the authorities to take necessary action and ensure the safety of the former player and his family members.

The southpaw was India’s top run-scorer in the 2007 T20 World Cup as well as 2011 ODI World Cup final and played a key role as MS Dhoni-led side clinched both the titles. After retiring from international cricket in 2018, Gambhir turned to politics and joined BJP in 2019.
