This Is Why Ferrari Has Banned All Of Their Employees From Buying Their Cars

Probably the biggest perk of working for an auto manufacturer is the employee discount. But, unfortunately, people working for Ferrari don't get to take advantage of this opportunity.Β

This is all due to the fact that Ferrari only produces 8,000 cars a year, and this number is just for their mass-produced cars. This makes it hard for the buyer and they have to, sometimes, wait for years to actually get one.Β

Moreover, their limited edition hyper cars are extremely exclusive, and are sold to only a few people who Ferrari thinks are worthy of it. Apparently, you can shell out huge amounts of money and still won't be able to get a car if you're not a β€˜Ferrari client'.Β

Recently, in an interview with Drive, Ferrari's Chief Marketing And Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera revealed that each and every employee is banned from buying a Ferrari, except for the company's Formula 1 drivers. As of now, there are only two – Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, but even they can't take advantage of any discounts.Β

"The philosophy is that with such limited production and clients waiting so long to get their car, it's not nice if the car is delivered to employees. It is the clients first," he said.

When the company launched their latest hypercar, LaFerrari Aperta, Galliera mailed their top 200 clients a box that had car keys along with a note asking if they were interested in buying the car, without even seeing it. And even though the car costs upwards of 1.2 million euros, plus taxes, each and every one of those 200 people said yes.Β

He further described how selective the process is. He said, "The most difficult part of my job is to say no... At the very beginning you receive applications from people who do not deserve, they simply have the money. 'I am the king of something, so I deserve the car. I say 'Yes, but you are not a Ferrari client.'”

Well, they do always put their customers before anyone else, but becoming a customer is also way too hard.
