The year 2021 was rife with controversies. Especially, in the Bollywood film industry where one after the other, something kept coming up and making the headlines. 

And one such controversy of 2021 was when businessman Raj Kundra, also husband to actress Shilpa Shetty, was arrested in a pornography case.

An FIR was registered against Raj Kundra after he was accused of distributing porn films through an app, and was arrested for the same. However, later in September, he was let out on bail.

Turns out, it was due to an alleged connection of Raj Kundra to a UK production house whose executive was Umesk Kamat, that landed him in trouble on suspicion of being involved in broadcasting porn films through apps during the lockdown.

The news that spread like wildfire only got worse with every passing day and even before the court could come to a verdict, the media and public had put Raj Kundra on a trial, accusing him with every conspiracy theory they deemed fit.

Yes, it was natural to wonder whether or not the billionaire was involved in such criminal activity, however, what wasn’t, was to yet again publicly disintegrate and defame a person without knowing enough about it or even allowing the court to have a fair trial.

Today, months after Raj Kundra and his family’s struggle with dealing with this charge, actress Shilpa Shetty took to her social media account to put up a strong front as she shared a quote by Winston Churchill that said, “The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.”

With this, she also attached the link to her husband’s statement about this case, calling it a ‘witch hunt’. Prior to this, the actress has kept her cool during this very turbulent time and has finally, taken a solid stand with her partner.

Kundra stated that, "After much contemplation, considering there are many misleading and irresponsible statements and articles floating around and my silence has been misconstrued for weakness. I would like to start by stating that I have NEVER been involved in the production and distribution of "pornography" EVER in my life."

He went on to say, “This whole episode has been nothing but a witch hunt. The matter is subjudice so I can not elucidate, but I am ready to face trial and have full faith in the judiciary, where the truth will prevail."

Coming on to how the public scrutiny and media trial has affected him, Kundra stated, “The trolling, negativity and toxic public perception has been very debilitating. To set the record straight, I do not hide my face in shame, but wish that my privacy is not intruded anymore with this continued MEDIA TRIAL. My priority has always been my family, nothing else matters at this juncture."

As of now, the case is yet to be taken to the court in full steam and meanwhile, the businessman has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and the Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing/ transmitting sexually explicit videos.
