5 Things That Transformed Vijay Deverakonda Into A Beast For Liger, As Per His Trainer


The much awaited teaser for Vijay Deverakonda's Liger is finally out, and as expected, the man has been successful in reeling us all in, yet again. He plays an MMA fighter in the movie, and looks like a monster - in the best way possible.

Vijay looks like a literal beast in this aptly named film, and has worked extremely hard for this over a period of more than a year. Kuldip Sethi, his trainer, has revealed 5 things that helped him achieve this super impressive physique.

1. Consistency 

Vijay started his transformation journey in December, just before COVID hit us. After training for 3-4 months, all the gyms shut and he had to make do with home workouts. While it was extremely limited for the physique goal he had, he kept going with whatever equipment he had at home. While it felt like an uphill task, his consistency made sure that he did not let all the progress slide off.

2. Nutrition 

Kuldip mentioned that even though training is extremely important, nutrition is the real game changer. Sticking to one's calories as well as macros when there is a goal to be achieved is crucial for succeeding. While everyone seems to be more curious about 'what exercises have been done' to achieve a particular physique, it's the nutrition bit that's actually more important.

3. Carb loading as per requirement 

After a fat loss phase, carb loading is important to make the muscles look fuller. While the popular perception is 'no carbs will lead to a chiseled physique', that's not entirely true. Carbohydrates are important and need to be utilized wisely when it comes to achieving a physique like Vijay Deverakonda in Liger.

Vijay was also put under a carb depletion diet once he reached a particular body fat percentage to achieve his physique goals for the character. While carbs are important, one may need to temporarily get rid of a major chunk of them during shredding. Sometimes, to achieve that ultra ripped look, carb depletion can be an important tool. However, one should only resort to that under expert supervision, as it can be counterproductive otherwise.

Even though Vijay already had a lean muscular physique before Liger, the physique required for this particular role was extremely different, and required specialized training in terms of exercise as well as nutrition. While taking inspiration from stars in terms of their physique is great, beginners must keep a few things in mind, like sustainability of an active lifestyle and long term training benefits, before jumping in the bandwagon and blindly following someone's training plan.
