'Zabardast Captain Hai Ye': Rishabh Pant Takes Cheeky Dig At Elgar, Calls Him 'Selfish'

Rishabh Pantย has been under the radar of many cricket pundits for his poor run of form with the bat in recent times. However, his lack of runs has had minimal impact on his skills behind the stumps.ย

Ever since he burst onto the scene, the 24-year-old has proved to be one of the chirpiest wicket keepers going around.ย

Whether it is his encouraging words for his own bowlers or banter with the rival batter, Pant's antics from behind the stumps generally go viral on social media in a flash.ย

Pant took over the internet when he sang the Hindi version of Spider-Man's theme songย in Australia during a Test match and his banter with the then Australia captain Tim Paine was also a hit among cricket fans.ย

While he has struggled with the bat in the four innings he has batted, so far, in South Africa in the ongoing series, Pant has done fairly well behind the stumps.ย

He recently became the fastest Indian wicket-keeper to register 100 dismissals in the longest format of the game.ย

Pant brought out his street cricket-like sledge on display on Wednesday to disrupt South Africa captain Dean Elgar's concentration.ย

Pant took a cheeky dig at Elgar after the South Africa skipper decided not to review the LBW decision against Keegan Petersen who was trapped in front of the stumps by Ravichandran Ashwinย for 28.ย

As the next batter was walking onto the field, Pant was heard taking a sly dig at Elgar, sarcastically calling him a great captain and selfish for not challenging the on-field call against Petersen.

"zabardast captain hai ye, apne baare mei sochta hai ye bas. (He is a great captain, he only thinks about himself)," Pant's sledge was caught on the stump mic.ย

Well, clearly, the sledge didn't work as Elgar managed to get through the day, unbeaten on 46 and took the hosts to a comfortable position at Stumps on Day 3.ย

While we cannot be sure of the outcome of the Test match in Johannesburg, it is safe to say that we can expect some more gems from behind the stumps by Rishabh Pant, especially, if India manage to make some early inroads on Day 4.
