South star Dhanush and wife Aishwaryaa, Rajinikanth's eldest daughter, on Monday announced their separation after 18 years of marriage. This news has left fans heartbroken, however, they are still extending support to the duo and Rajinikanth. While everything seemed well between Dhanush and Aishwaryaa before this announcement, in 2011-2012, there were rumours of a rift in their marriage. 

Did you know that the rumoured rift was because of Dhanush's alleged affair with Aishwaryaa's childhood friend and actress Shruti Haasan? Yes, you read that right! Both Dhanush and Shruti own a huge fan-following down South and when Aishwaryaa decided to turn director with 3, she decided to cast both the actors together in her debut film for obvious reasons.  

However, according to various reports, Dhanush spent most of his time with Shruti during the production and promotion of 3 and avoided making public appearances with Aishwaryaa. As per rumours, this created a rift in their marriage.  

At that time, there was a buzz that Dhanush and Shruti's amazing onscreen chemistry was a result of their rumoured closeness off-screen. Aishwaryaa was miffed with their closeness which reportedly impacted the marriage. Rajinikanth too was said to be not happy with the situation. 

However, soon after the film's release, the rumours of Dhanush and Shruti's alleged affair fizzled out. Later, in an interview, Aishwarya had also shared that those rumours were baseless. 

Talking about the linkup rumours with Dhanush, Shruti had told Filmfare, "He is my best friend in the business. He has always helped me artistically. I won’t throw that in trash just because people are talking nonsense about us. I’ve never bothered much about what people say".

Coming back to Dhanush and Aishwaryaa's decision to part ways, we just hope that they stay happy always. 

For the unversed, the estranged couple got married in 2004 and are parents to two sons, Yatra and Linga.
