4 Celeb Grooms Who Broke Gender Stereotypes At Their Weddings & Set New-Age Couple Goals

Celebrity weddings are always looked up to for trends and inspiration that stars serve at their nuptials, be it with their outfits, chosen venue or customs and traditions.

Be it a long veil from Priyanka Chopra’s wedding or Vikrant Messey’s simple wedding at his bride’s grandparent’s home, people always pick something from these Bollywood weddings as #weddinginspo.

However, it’s when these star couples break gender norms and redefine century-old customs to show their fans and followers a progressive change, is when they actually start a trend worthwhile. And some celebrity grooms have perfectly done that at their wedding.

Here are four such Bollywood men who broke gender stereotypes and redefined conventional norms as grooms:

1. Rajkummar Rao Asked His Bride To Put Sindoor On Him View this post on Instagram

According to Hindu customs, the groom applies sindoor (vermilion) on the bride's forehead. Rajkummar gave this tradition a twist and asked Patralekhaa to put it on his forehead as well.

He shared a clip from his wedding where after applying it on her forehead, he tells her ‘tum bhi laga do’. This gesture was hailed on social media.

2. Anand Tiwari Shedding Tears At ‘Vidaai’ View this post on Instagram

The common thing to happen at weddings is the bride crying at her vidaai. However, the trend is changing now.

While actress Angira Dhar was all smiles at her vidaai, her groom Anand Tiwari got emotional and teared up.

The film director also broke another gender stereotype by rocking a henna art in his hand, with his bride’s name

Although grooms do apply a very small amount of henna as its good omen, here is Anand who went all out and flaunted the henna art.

3. Ranveer Singh Wore An Anarkali Kurta At His Mehendi View this post on Instagram

If there’s one actor who breaks, nah, SMASHES gender stereotypes with his style with every look he sports, it’s Ranveer Singh.

At his wedding too, he chose to not confine to fashion norms set for men and wore an Anarkali kurta for men or ‘manarkali’ for his Mehendi function.

He shared a picture twirling in the outfit. He was also seen with sindoor on his forehead during an outing post the wedding.

4. Virat Kohli Moved To Mumbai Post-Marriage To Anushka Sharma View this post on Instagram

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli redefined the tradition of bringing the bride home and moved from his hometown Delhi to Mumbai for his wife Anushka Sharma.

Knowing that it would be difficult for the actress to move to Delhi due to the nature of her work, Kohli shifted to Mumbai to live with his wife post-wedding.

He broke the gender stereotype AND smashed patriarchy at the same time.

Kudos to these celebs for teaching men that they can choose to smash the patriarchy and not cater to society's norms.
